So I just failed to circumnavigate the world. I flew South from Batumi using the latitude and longitude on the TAD to navigate. I discovered there is a single point south pole you can fly around, but my compass stopped working properly after I passed the pole. I then flew into the western hemisphere toward the north pole. When I passed the opposite side of the world from my mission start waypoint, the indicator stayed behind me instead of switching to in front. When I got to the north pole the longitude on the TAD completely stopped functioning. I continued flying away from my start location until I reached the same latitude as Batumi, but nothing was there.

Vincent, you can call yourself rightfully an explorer, standing in one line with Columbus, Magellan, Vespucci, Marco Polo and the other guy I just can not recall his name...

Must have cost you plenty of time. At least it was usefull for this kind of community driven science, I guess...

Alpha16, this might be correct :music_whistling:;)

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! Sounds as if my DCS universe map may be incorrect then. If it WAS correct, then you shouldn't have been able to fly circles around the south pole!

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

Thought so. I'm a mechanic by trade, but I'm also a part time sensor operator, and our current FLIR is the SSHD, and you seem to have one in your sig image. :)

Nevada terrain?

The Nevada terrain will be available soon as a payware addon. But what exactly that terrain has? IIRC Nellis Air Force base is a training area for USAF and other Air forces (Red Flag exercices are made there?) But paying 20 dolars for a training area seems a bit too much for me, so being a desertic area, will feature simulated middle east style villages so we can simulate a war in the desert?

I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!

Nevada Desert = Las Vegas.. for 20 dollars you can have some fun over the casinos :D

I guess it will mainly be used for user created missions with the editor, one question though do ground vehicles have desert camo cause it will be stupid if all vehicles are green in the desert?

I had a chance to fly in the Nevada map in Beta. Flying in the desert is lots of fun. It's a really nice change from the current map. The quick mission generator (in it's early days) did provide some fun and exciting missions. Finding targets on the desert floor was a bit easier as well, so I don't think we'll be as glued the the TGP as we normally would be in Georgia/Russia.

When the new Nevada comes out, it will have the new terrain engine so it will be a worthy upgrade to purchase. New engine + desert = fun. It's worth $20 bucks for sure. I'm assuming if it's successful with sales, we will see more maps coming out in the future.

I'm sharing OPs feeling about Nevada map. yes, having a dedicated training ground is fine, a fresh highly detailed location to fly that upcoming mustang at is good as well. but chances are full campaign is barely possible there. campaign that takes the pilot through advanced training and exersizes perhaps, but its not like we going to repel Russian/Chinese forces or something...

i'd rather have seen current map extending eastwards to cover Chechnya (free-form reenactment 1994 and 2000 conflicts?). or perhaps south to cover turkey/syrian border. will create very interesting possibilities for campaign depicting current tensions of NATO Turkey and somewhat Russia suported Syria. or some detached location like Yugoslavia. or hek, even Libya would do...

but i guess i'll take what ED offers...

ADD:

as far as cost , given how FSX high detail terrain addons items are priced (London, Rome, etc), i think 20$ is perfectly justified.

cant wait to have somewhere else to fly the Hog. Black Sea area is getting alittle "long in the tooth"

Absofrigginloutley!! It seems a huge oversight to me that there is no Iraq/Afghanistan theatre for the hawg. Its flown how many thousands of missions in those two theaters?

Nevada will be a nice change, but the A-10 has such a long operational history in Iraq and Afghanistan that its really going to need those two theatres to ever be "complete". The Black Sea region just makes no sense for the 'hawg.

Afghanistan, if the mission were made realisticly, you would have to fly 8 to 10 hour combat missions with multiple ARs and maybe you'd drop munitions....we just had folks finish deployments there and sometimes after an 8 to 10 hour sortie the jets would come back clean others with all ordinance...sounds boring to me...

Iraq on the other hand the Hawgs had lots of action...

Flown a lot of Falcon in the Middle Eastern Theaters and you are right, very long flights. For those that are patient it gives an enormous realism boost with the long flight. I heard an F-4 pilot from a Vietnam combat mission state, Discovery Wings, "Four to five hours of sheer boredom and then 5 minutes of sheer adrenaline. He also stated a night trap was terrifying after a long sortie.

It's nearly really impossible right now, but i remember an old flight simulator on my Atari 1400ST... Vietnam, with an A6 Intruder And F4 Phantom II.

Damn the mission of counter radar and SAM, was really exalting ( ok i was young so maybe now i will have a different approach )... Start on Carrier, going through the sea.

The last mission of the campaign, was ofc: " SAMcity. "
