kyletiernan Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 From what Matt has told me, this map wont be released until EDGE is completed. Probably not news to many but it is what it is. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Wolfie Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Ha. Believe me, when you live in a shithole like Nevada or Texas, the grass LITTERALLY is greener anywhere else. BlueRidgeDx Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Something I want to ask. I'm assuming EDGE will implement proper navaids right? VOR, VOR/DME, NDBs, TACAN and (proper) ILS. Its a bit embarrassing when you want to show off DCS to real world airline pilots and they are like "sooo how the fcuk you navigate? Is that the ATC talking like that???... no thanks, I'll stick to FSX or X-Plane". TACAN and ILS work just fine, and have ever since A-10C came out. VOR and NDB are present too, but the A-10 does not have the equipment to receive/use these navaids. ATC is indeed very poor. I'd love to see it improved, but I'm willing to give it a pass because there is som much other stuff to do in the sim. While ATC is integral to the kind of flying possible in FSX, it plays a minor role in simulating tactical flying. 1 "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. mmaruda Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 ATC works just fine. It gives the vector, runway and says if you are clear or not. Nothing else is needed IMHO. The sim's focus is on combat flying anyway, not chit-chat with the tower.
BlueRidgeDx Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I don't think I'd say it's "just fine". It severely lacks the fidelity found in the rest of the simulation. All things considered, it's due for a little love. "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams

As it is , its mostly ok for me as I dont play it with headphones , and the missis would bitch at me too much . Perhaps an ATC radio call "get outta the fcuking room" would sound good coming from them over my speakers ..... :joystick: ..... in Betty's voice !!!
sylkhan Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Guys be patient. EDGE is the futur of DCS world, it need to be done right.

SUBS17 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Compare it to Falcon and FSX ATC it lacks what both those sims have. IMO if you combined all 3 sims features you would have an awesome ATC. Falcon has AI radio calls to Tower, hold short command for all aircraft, declaring an emergency. FSX has Sqwak codes, ATIS, and the you can fly from local airspace to another plus it supports VATSIM. Theres alot missing when compared to real life but if you combined the above features it would fix that. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Cedaway Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) From what Matt has told me, this map wont be released until EDGE is completed. Probably not news to many but it is what it is. Sounds logic since Nevada terrain is designed to run on edge. I don't know if it could be activated with current drawing engine. EDIT: but a screenshot from time to time could be nice :hypnotize: Edited October 19, 2012 by Cedaway DCS Wish: Turbulences affecting surrounding aircraft... SinCityJet Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Uh...Edwards AFB is in California. Yeah, but it's less than a half an hour's flight from Nellis, and is just one of the active air bases in the larger Nevada I mentioned earlier.. if you extend to the Mexican border, you also get the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. http://goo.gl/maps/RMdEG Upgrading Flight Sim computers since the Apple ][.

theGozr Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm sorry to ask the question but I just came back into DCS and I was wondering about the Nevada map.. any news of release ? Fly it like you stole it..
159th_Viper Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm sorry to ask the question but I just came back into DCS and I was wondering about the Nevada map.. any news of release ? It's a terrain engine (EDGE) in addition to the Nevada map that is based on said terrain engine (EDGE) and no, there is no news regarding release yet. pixelpilot Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 how will the Caucauses (I know that's spelt wrong) region work with edge? will the game use a different terrain engine depending on which theatre you are playing or is the edge engine able to work with the legacy terrain albeit with out some of the new features (whatever those might be).
luckybob9 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 how will the Caucuses (I know that's spelt wrong) region work with edge? will the game use a different terrain engine depending on which theatre you are playing or is the edge engine able to work with the legacy terrain albeit with out some of the new features (whatever those might be). My current understanding is that it will be two different engines. IF the Caucasus do use EDGE, do not expect to see EDGE improvements Nevada map contributer EDM Modeling tools FAQ: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1418067&postcount=1 Seo libh a chairde is chanadh liom.
