maturin Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I forgot about the gauges, mostly because they are only legible on high texture settings, unlike LOMAC.
JeffRod Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Uf... just read all 15 pages of this thread... can't really say I learned anything... except that maybe Vikhrs automatically turn laser on... that I'll try... :D Funny how that's the exact one thing I've learned after 15 pages of trash.. maturin Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I suppose just about anything can go in this thread... How do you guys set up your Vikhr attack runs? I struggle to take out more than one target at a time because the Su-25 is so fast. What's your optimal speed and altitude for the approach, and with what combination of controls do you accomplish it?
HiJack Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I suppose just about anything can go in this thread... How do you guys set up your Vikhr attack runs? I struggle to take out more than one target at a time because the Su-25 is so fast. What's your optimal speed and altitude for the approach, and with what combination of controls do you accomplish it? Start far out from the target. Flaps down one notch, speed brakes on until speed about 300. Set launche override and fire the first vikhr at high altitude of the target. Keep the speed down! fire next vikhr. And you can take out some trucks and soft targets with rockets or gun. Raise flaps and extract speed brake and turn left/right at full throttle. This procedure will only work if there is no IGLAS or SAM systems on target area so IRL its a no no. If you do not know the target site well, one vikhr and turn when target hit and look for IGLA/SAM launces. (HJ) 1

Boberro Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) Successful and multiple Vikhrs' kills are dependant of the many factors. Other attack pattern wil be used when enemy is out of SHORAD other where we are less-more safely. Usually when you are at high alt, example 3000 meters you can fire Vikhr from 11 km. Here it need to be told if target is mobile or not. If yes in what direction it moves - to us or out of us and its speed. If toward us you gain some missile energy so you can fire at greater distance, of out of us missile will not hit target even fired from 9 km. Here we have also factor of speed - if vehicle goes 100 kph escaping you must close to it... Same applies to shoots when target is perpendicularly to us. Then missile will lose its energy faster compared to the shoots to target in from of us without moving left\right to our course. So if there are no SAMs in vicinity I fire from 10 km usually, if targets are quite close each other I turn off laser after 5 seconds and fire other missile. The first which was fired don't lose its laser beam and now both (1st and 2nd) are to kill victim. I repeat this procedure if distance to target is quite good, if not I fire single missiles till I am 1 km from the target, then I break. This all at speed of 280-320 kph but before last target I push engines at max power to have enough speed for retreat. Edited August 5, 2012 by Boberro Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Mar044 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 the frog is a ground attack aircraft like the a10, the a10 on its own can be killed by fighters just the same. it was used up to the most recent ossetia war and did fine, im tired of this american tec is better then russia crap, how about we talk about KA 50 having ejection seats and apache doesnt and see what tech buys you when you go down with the heli and the KA pilots walk away. OGREMAN Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Cant Resist comment.... Each and every aircraft that fly's has got a physical/ aerodynamic and tech/avionics character that is unique to not only that AC type but unique to every individual aircraft. Learning to fully appreciate this will eventualy teach you that "IF IT FLY'S .... its A THING OF BEAUTY" and deserves at the very least ... a little respect. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ironhand Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Ironhand, I recently figured out how to read the HUD with that climbing arrow, like you said. But it tends to disappear at inopportune moments. Is it only available in Nav mode or something? Haven't seen it disappear on me yet. It should be there in any mode. Is it, perhaps, disappearing off the top or bottom of the HUD when you are in an extreme pitch up or down? pappavis Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I don’t like its brakes. 2 BIG doughnuts for tyres and no brakes. since when does the frog have (air)brakes? :joystick:. Ohhh, u mean the two slaps of jelly on the wingtips.. didnt notice them giving much brakeing power. With no payload and light fuel those "airbrakes" are near useless. maturin Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 So is there a randomized chance that a Vikhr will simply never take the laser and just fire into the ground? This has happened a number of times, in a textbook dive at 7km or so, with the laser on, the target locked and held inside the firing circle the whole time. It also occurred several times in a row over water.

maturin Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 That campaign really loves its Kh-29s, and actually hitting with the second one is a bitch. I've been experimenting, but still can't figure it out. Could someone post the sequence of buttons they use to stabilize an unbalanced aircraft after firing, so that they don't end up with the autopilot trimming the hell out of your plane after you disengage it?

Alt-3 to trim for level flight. Thereafter Alt-9 to disengage autopilot. Alternatively, just trim the plane yourself: Get the plane in a level-flight attitude, have a look at the position of the flightstick in-cockpit and trim it to new position, ie left 10 degrees or whatever other parameters it will take.
