    • 599$ did not faze you, and YOU PRE-ORDER IT!
    • 599$ puts me into bankrupcy - I will not spend that kind of money - WILL NOT BUY

A question on the Rift custom optic lenses.

"Palmer Luckey....Can't get into the details now, but they are essentially hybrid lenses that combine the best of traditional optics and fresnel lenses into a single element."

I think that the relative strength of the USD will hurt international sales a bit. Buddy of mine in Canada said it would be nearly $1000CAD delivered. OUCH. And I winced at the $599 price tag.

Ya, I'm in Canada. I think it came to $914 total after tax and shipping. :(

Due to the amount of technology (quality of the displays, motion tracking, etc) I am not at all surprised about the price tag. This is an enthusiast level piece of hardware that requires enthusiast equipment to even run (970 or better GPU).

It was, however, pretty bad PR to be throwing around ballpark numbers that low balled the price by a lot.

I will wait to see some reviews before I purchase this though.

"The Rift’s American base price is US$599, but in Taiwan it costs US$650 and the Japanese price of Y83,800 is equivalent to more than US$700. And that’s before shipping costs, which are likely to be substantial."

I am not happy about the bundle options also, I don't need the 2 stupid games or that controller (I could even go without fancy case)

This is a incredible fiasco LOL.. wait a bit Vive will come with a Higher resolution model pretty much on the same time I did test both, Both have an incredible tracking capability but the Rift resolution was too low and still hard to read things so for Flight Sim it will be not yet good.. so I conciser the Rift as a prototype for the masses, now the Vive was superior in all and move and the screens were better .. I'll pass on this Rift and wait for the competition.

This year have to wait for the next competitor coming out and video cards new generation.

I have to admit I am bitterly dissapointed with the pricing of the rift. I've used the VEAO DK2 a few times for various games and its quite good, but I was never really sold on the idea when the definition was just not there.

To see this priced at £530 in the UK is just too much money for what it is I think. Had it been £399 then I could of maybe justified it but the extra £130 just pushes the boundary slightly too far.

Shame really, but I expect the price will drop within a year or so and I don't need one for the 2 or so games that I would use it with.

Hmm by the time currency, shipping and customs fees are taken into account the rift will be close to $1300 in Australia.... ouch.

Import taxes and customs fees are included in the price.

A huge price..... but they said it where in the amount of € 350,00 a month or two ago. And now double the prize? It's like a scam. The oculus should be affordable to far more people. Or is it? They can't manage the production numbers and reduce the price later????

Hi theGozr. Just curious if the issue of i7-2600 Oculus compatibility is correct. The Oculus recommendations (https://support.oculus.com/hc/en-us/articles/215526337) are as follows:

For the Oculus Rift to perform at an optimal level with your computer, we recommend an Intel i5-4590 CPU or greater.

I guess the tool has been build to check wether the CPU generation is at least haswell or Ivy Bridge.

OR is here. Price, even twice as was estimated is still in a acceptable level considering the pioneering ideea it presents.

But, resolution 2160x1200 (1080x1200 x 2)might be ok for a race sim or an arcade game and not for sim games... for DCS will be nice to fly arround maybe, but not for real CAS missions where you need some eagle eye on field.

A begining in VR, I will however wait for something like MS Hololens. Until then 4k will be the key :)

I use my screens for more than gaming and its up to 8 Now.

*(4 for gaming),

8 in extended modes.

Same here, I used to work with many screens. I need the work space it provides. Early last year I switched to an extra wide 34 inch IPS 1440p screen and it's been great. It cost about the same price as the Oculus Rift, it was a great investment and serves me really well in every department be it work or entertainment.

The Oculus Rift though is a very very specialized screen that can only be used for the one thing it's been designed for. That's why I can't justify buying it at such a price, I want it, but I don't need it. Kudos to those who can justify it though, share your experience. I know someone who actually is at the working front of that tech and says that the tech is simply not ready yet, the screens are way too low rez for a good experience, we'll get there, but we're not there yet. For that kind of money I want a top notch product and experience.

I only hope that such an agressive price point won't delay yet again the VR adoption a few years back should the price stay up high for too long.

I think by the time VR gets good enough (high resolution and PC's able to run it fluidly) I will get old man with bad eyes, and my life will have gone by. I am very disappointed.

Yup same there, I love my 34" 1440p screen, but I couldn't understand such a niche product being so expensive.

Very disappointing.

I have a 2600K at 4.6 and a 6700K at 4.6. There is absolutely ZERO difference in performance in DCS between either machine when using the same video card. There is no way that the OR will not work the same on both machines. I wouldn't put too much stock in their official 'will OR work on my machine' test. There are only a few games that I play where I see a noticeable increase in FPS between both my machines with FSX being the most noticeable which is the only reason I upgraded. I plan on purchasing P3D this week and slowly migrating to it anyway now that Orbx has released many of their updated installers.

Yeah but imagine Doom 3 (old game but very passionate), Half-Life, Crysis 3 ect.... lovely :D

I wonder how many people saying OR is overpriced have a $200 Track IR sitting on their monitor... :music_whistling:

Well, when did TiR was priced for $200?

Anyway, 200 dollars is not 600 dollars, or worse 750 EURO in stupid Europe where everything must be so expensive.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I'm one of them (It doesn't cost $200 though), if we are to go down that road I also have a 400€ hotas, 350€ rudder pedals, a 700€ monitor and a 2000€ water cooled custom built PC.

All of that to say that I like to think of myself as an enthusiast and PC sim/gaming a passion, just like many others in the DCS community. I still can't justify the OR at that price which is to me, beyond enthusiast.

That said, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with those who can justify it, there's no need to be sarcastic really. Oculus Rift was pitched, funded and developed on the basis that it'd be an affordable VR solution for the masses and is now being sold instead as a luxury high-end specialized product for the few. There had to be reactions.

Mine should be coming in May, hopefully earlier. Can't wait :D

The price seems par for the course when you're talking high end PC components.

I'll be needing one of the new graphics cards to power it properly, which will be costing probably around the same as the rift I'd imagine.

thats more res than I tought it would be! And even the DK2 is good enough to play DCS. I even challange myself with the Rift DK2 today in MP. Impostors to "enlarge" and it's (almost) the same spotting that with a normal screen. Or you use a label mod which helps spotting but don't turn DCS into arcade. It's totally playable. I will never go back to 2D, but I wait until Summer or Autum to buy a consumer version (Rift or Vive).

I feel insulted when I see the price tag for Germany
