Maybe the long load times / stuttering is something to do with compiling shaders or something? Seems like this happened on another beta version. Then FPS returns to normal after a few runs of the game or had to delete temptextures or something? my memory is fuzzy on this...

Mmm in 1.2.0 i always had long load times, so maybe it has to do with the temptextures. Ill see if i can find something about it

I reinstalled 1.2.1. Used another activation for it but I have plenty to spare. It's nice you can cancel out the updater. Wags and ED will fix this.

I am probably stating the obvious here. But isn't it natural that we get lower FPS with World 1.2.1 now that the "high" settings in "High.lua" have changed from

distance10x10 = 30000

distanceLevel0 = 18000

to

distance10x10 = 60000.0;

distanceLevel0 = 38000.0;

The terrain is now much more detailed to a further distance, FPS must naturally drop. Set it back to the old values, and you should be back to normal FPS.

What am I missing?

Tried that. Not much difference at all. Maybe 1 or 2 frames.

From my understanding this is part of the reason for fps drop, but not the only reason. But in principle as eye candy is increased people will need to lower their settings to maintain fps unless they have horse power to spare.

Thanks. I've gotten 2-3 fps gained but that's about it.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Yep.

Tried just about every tweak....messed with Nvidia settings, game settings, HDR (on/off), view distance, the high.lua file, the smoke mod...pretty much every suggestion I have read here.

World is unplayable for me right now.

I wish people who are find the game unplayable would post their system specs and in-games settings. It would really help quantify the problems.

With almost full settings (sans water and civ traffic) I was getting 30-50fps constant, in 1.2.0 .

Now same settings in 1.2.1, I am getting 17-23 constant. I have lowered settings and it seems to make no difference at all. Used Nvidia CP as well as used only the game settings. No difference. Changed High.Lua and still no difference.

Also loading a mission is extremely long. Almost double from 1.2.0 .

water to Low

I always have it on low. No diff.

Serious stutter on mission start here also and generally lower fps. Worked fine on 1.2.0, performance started to degrade with 1.2.1.5970 (most notably looking around on Batumi area, even to direction where there was no action going on). Also having problems with fps fluctating wildly on some missions (most notably "Sunset Sierra" ), this problem came with World 1.2.0 and was present even on my previous system.

I tested for 2min, in-flight mission. Didn't notice any fps drops. Where's the bottleneck? HDD preloading or soaked GPU?

I'm experiencing the same FPS drops as described above. 1.2.0 ran very well with all settings on "High" at 2560x1440. After 1.2.1, I noticed a non-trivial performance penalty when viewing the aft cockpit area and when flying near cities (e.g. Batumi).

Considering I have a SSD and 2x GTX 590s (i.e. four total GPUs running in quad-SLI), I highly doubt my hardware is the culprit.

Thankfully, ED appears to be aware of the issue and is pursuing a solution.

My specs are:

i5 2500K @ 4,4Ghz

16GB DD3

AMD HD 6950 1GB

SSD read/write 280/270 MB/s

I updated to 1.2.1.6055...

I tested with MSI Afterburner for GPU usage and even if I put all settings to LOWEST possible and disable AA, TSAA, HDR, Heat Blur, Cockpit Shadows, Tree Shadows...

...the sim kills my GPU at 98-100% same like on maxxed out settings on which I usually played...

...so something must really be broken inside the rendering engine, not to mention the unbearable STUTTERING on unpause... :doh:

Please, with sugar on top, fix this sim... cause it's the frikkin financial crysis and I will not afford a new graphics card so soon... :music_whistling:

On the other hand, my CPU gets like 18% usage which is riduculuosly low...

So, something is wrong... very wrong... :cry:

Dear ED,

I never let programs automatically update anything on my computer - I let them notify me that an update is available but I manually have to choose when to install it. Gives me a chance to be pro-active with other settings, tweaks and avoid version conflicts. Please provide us with this option!!!

Signed,

A fan

P.S. Wouldn't want to open the game only to find a new version already installed without me saying "OK" (and/or not being able to connect to MP with because other people's versions didn't update) and then having broken mods to boot, too... Could happen, right?

Didn't read through the whole thread, but I see a lot of people complaining about the autoupdater. Would be interesting if any of those have been complaining about too few updates before the autoupdater.

Folks, obviously there is always anything to complain about.

I just want to thank ED for the autoupdater! It's really a step forward in bringing us a sim with more quality :)
