ALDEGA Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Would be interesting if you could declare an emergency to the ATC controller ... and skip the queue :D
Napa Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 great update.. although this map update graphic stuff, ..is this wort it since EDGE is being developed or are they abandoning EDGE and will rather incrementally beautify the map we have?.. It's a hint that EDGE will take a lot longer than expected and that in between we'll get some graphical improvements on the current engine. Seems reasonable since developing a brand new engine takes millions of dollars and millions of hours. What I'm really excited is the ATC improvements :) Thank you Matt for the update. Intel i7 12700k / Corsair H150i Elite Capellix / Asus TUF Z690 Wifi D4 / Corsair Dominator 32GB 3200Mhz / Corsair HW1000W / 1x Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 500Gb + 1 Corsair MP600 1TB / ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080 OC V2 / Fractal Design Meshify 2 / HOTAS Warthog / TFRP Rudder / TrackIR 5 / Dell U2515h 25" Monitor 1440p

Rotorhead Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Excellent news! It's great to hear about ATC improvements (they were needed for loooong time, it's the first step on this journey), and especially about the new engine. Hawk video was nice, too. Only thing I don't quite get: Soldier skeleton animations. What is it good for? I mean, as long as we have tanks and choppers that can see, fire, and even move through trees, AI units that have problems navigating trough urban areas, CBU's that bring even the best computers to their knees, and million other things, do we really need this type of eye-candy? I know, it will be improvement for sure, especially for CA players, but I think it should be pretty low on ED's priority list. I'd rather have good simulated ground combat with ugly looking soldiers than vice-versa.
ED Team NineLine Posted June 14, 2013 ED Team Posted June 14, 2013 Perhaps all these things will be addressed with EDGE.... Only thing I don't quite get: Soldier skeleton animations. mmaruda Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 So dedicated server will arrive with EDGE? No info on performance makes me a bit sad. However the new ATC is something I was looking forward too - what we have now just kills immersion (not to mention you you can be gliding a smoldering wreck to the strip and still not get clearance because an Apache is taking off). As for the infantry animations, this is a weird one. Considering what a performance hog the 3d infantry models are in large quantities is it really needed? Especially that this is a flight simulator, so we mostly see grunts as little dots right before they get covered with a CBU explosion. :D
SkateZilla Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 with Combined Arms and other low flying Aircraft, I dont like seeing soldiers hoverboard to their waypoints... Skeletal Animations is nothing new, it wont hurt performance, the new engine will allow for those animations to be played, instead of just moving the solder meshes along waypoints. it's on half the Aircraft Pilots already. As for EDGE, EDGE is the IMAGE RENDERER, Everyone wanted Edge info, so there's some info. Just because he called it by the technical name and not the commercial name, you get all "oh no edge is delayed"... smh.... how many times in the Nevada EDGE thread has it been said that EDGE is the new rendering engine..... NRG-Vampire Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Wags: We have increased the landing rates. ^ can you explain this ? rate of what ? tailgating ? follow-up interval ? TY

Biggles07 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Booo, what were you expecting, sharks with laser beams attached to their heads in DCS?:megalol::megalol::megalol: I have a slightly different vision and dream for DCS meself Zilla, flying Stealth Pigs with frikkin "Ion Cannonz" strapped to their snouts, capable of supercruise and speeds in excess of Mach 2. *sigh* Looks like 'the dream' is on hold, at least for the foreseeable future. :D Seriously though, good update and it bodes well, especially pleased that ATC is being given some much needed attention. I dig the new 'Glasnost' ED information philosophy too.....Makes for happier punters all round (in general, but you can't stop the 'Moaner Lisa's' lol ) . :) 1 ♫ ' Papa was a hairy mole.....Wherever he dug a den was his home ' ♫
Rusty_M Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 He (Wags) is definately talking about EDGE and not the current graphics engine. That's how I read it. Wasn't the prospect of DX11 for the current engine scrapped sometime in the development of DCS A-10? The world is going mad. Me? sobek Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 That's how I read it. Wasn't the prospect of DX11 for the current engine scrapped sometime in the development of DCS A-10? Something along the lines, yes. I do not know what was planned exactly prior to changing to the current plans. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
NRG-Vampire Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Prolly Frequency sorry but i still dont understand :dunno: he wrote: - We have increased the landing rates. (against take off rates ? what is opposite of the next sentence ?) - Aircraft taking off will now have a higher priority than landing aircraft. my other thought was: - We have increased the vertical speed rates of landing - or something like that (no more porcelain undercarriage) or another: - We have increased the degree/grade of landing - final approach angle for touchdown :ermm:

Moburma Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Only thing I don't quite get: Soldier skeleton animations. What is it good for? I imagine one thing it could be used for is animations for embarking/disembarking troops in the new transport helicopter modules.
ALDEGA Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) - We have increased the landing rates. (against take off rates ? what is opposite of the next sentence ?)There will be less separation between landing aircraft. For example: with the old "landing rate", only one aircraft would be able to land at an airport per minute, with the new landing rate, two aircraft would be able to land at an airport per minute. = higher landing rate - Aircraft taking off will now have a higher priority than landing aircraft. When there are both outbound and inbound flights for an airport, ATC will give priority to outbound flights.
