Been waiting for quite a while to be able to finish my v2.1 of the Helios panel for A-10C and with the latest version, released just last night, I can finally call it complete. What do you think? Helios Front Panel. In sim front panel shot at the same moment. Both the Helios software (which is donation ware) and my profile (free of charge of course LOL) available at www.scsimulations.com These shots show the front instrument panel but in my profile there are 8 hidden pullout panels for Left and Right console, Radio panel, Airport Chart panel, UFC, TISL panel, CDU and Warning Panel, and Lighting Panel. You can view all of these in the A10C download section of the Helios site. Just look for the file Loz SM v2.1 If you like the look of it and you have a spare monitor to run it on then I cannot recommend Helios highly enough. A great addition to both this and Black Shark.3 points

Probably a mix of reasons; one that hasn't been mentioned yet is that it's probably a bad idea to announce it before the feature set is confirmed. I mean, the moment they say "the next DCS module will be <x>" there will be a flood of questions: "will function <a> and weapon <b> will be modeled?" and "will we be able to do <c>?" and "what version of <d> will be included?" and so on and on and on. Until they've actually "finished" it answering those questions will be very dangerous because of the backlash if it turns out they can't implement everything they initially planned to. Plus, people's imaginations tend to run riot and some people may start believing they're going to get all sorts of things that aren't/never were intended to be included, and be disappointed when it's not available in the finished product. So for that reason, keeping the time between announcement of the aircraft and the announcement of the features of the module should probably be kept to a minumum; ideally they'd be done at the same time. This is the F-18c files and cockpit. It contains Canadian skins and pilots which can be easily put back to the U.S. ones. HM gov - 6 report Fr/007 To/M Class/secret D/201111 trn:21204012Z rcd:21204127Z Auth/pKQfijqsKAa5bE2tpnPLsdq7Dc46xwJsq9evBSMmt8xqEnK7qsRSwMc Txt/ M, One of my informants reported some strange movements on an airbase lost in the east of the Westerly region of the Southly Septentrionic Independent Barbarian Republic. He claims not to know the name of the airbase, and says it has never been mapped. I doubt it, especially in this era of satellites and electronic intelligence, but he is my only source for now, I can’t push him too hard. A few years ago, this base was home of some Su-25, after having been the refuge of MiG-25 (or MiG-31?) interceptors, right before they were scrapped in the last throes of the Soviet ogre. In the recent months, the nightlife has intensified in this remote place. Various aircraft seemed to be flying from there. As Security has not lost one ounce of the ferocity instilled by the "green shoulder boards" of the KGB, my informant has only sent me a few inconclusive snapshots, but interesting enough to get my attention: The photos showed aircraft equipped with afterburners, and what appears to be a four-engine AWACS radar aircraft. Other four-engined aircraft without dorsal antenna were also noticed. All this does not make sense with the activity that honest people are entitled to expect from a third rate airbase populated with rotting Frogfoots, don’t you agree? I ventured to recommend that Q, on your behalf, divert one of our American cousins’ reconnaissance satellites to learn a little more. I hope you will pardon me this liberty, and that the NRO will not notice the small changes in their programs too quickly... You will find enclosed the photographs provided by my agent, as well as Q’s satellite images. Would you mind put some of your brilliant analysts in London on the job? I would have asked them myself for this favour, but I felt it more useful to take the opportunity to go on site personally, in order to discover a little more by myself. To be in good standing with respect to our organization, I have filled out mission orders. You will also find them in this package and only need to grace them with your signature, backdated, it goes without saying. Yours sincerely, 0071 point

A very interesting question re the DCS A-10C With the ferry range listed in various sources as 2240 nm I was curious to see what the sim could do non-stop, with no in flight refueling. I started out with full fuel, no weps, and 3 external 600 gallon fuel tanks. Zero wind conditions. Climb to altitude was slooow. Step climbed higher as fuel was burned and weight decreased. Adjusted airspeed to achieve an AoA between max range and max endurance, as shown on the AoA indicator. Jettisoned external tanks as they ran dry. (although I messed up with the center tank... releasing it while it still had some fuel in it.) At FL350 with external tanks gone and fuel remaining at approx 4000lbs, I was able to get the fuel burn down to 2000lbs/hr (total). As weight decreased I was able to reduce power and fuel burn. I did not try any higher than FL350. At 7 hours 30 minutes into the flight, both fuel low level caution lights came on with approx. 1000 lbs fuel remaining. On landing the total flight time 8 hours and 1 minute. Average fuel burn over the 8 hour flight was 2625 lbs/hr. Consumed approx 21000 lbs fuel, with 300 Lbs remaining on landing. At an average g/s of approx. 305 kts. I calculate the total distance covered in this flight at approx 2440 nm. ...and no, I will NOT be doing that again. :music_whistling:1 point

After the BS2 surprise release, I'm glad they are letting us know a bit more this time. Thanks ED! It's equipped, but most of us forget to turn it on.1 point

To be honest, the BS1 interactive tutorials didn't help me enough to miss them in 1.0.2 or BS 2. Tried A10-C yesterday for the first time. Had the first two tutorials (familarization?) and have to admit that they don't help that much as well. Reading and understanding the corresponding flight manual (plus tons of accompanying materials, e.g. FAA documents) plus extensive training does help. ;)1 point

Yes, you are correct, that was a brainfart on my part The GEN3 tagged boards are exactly the same, but they support pcie 3.0. The thing is though, that the PCIe controller sits on the CPU, so unless you have an Ivy Bridge CPU, you will have PCIe2. The price difference here in Austria is about 10€, so i'd say get the GEN3 if you ever upgrade to an Ivy Bridge once they come out. There are no GCards that support PCIe 3 yet. I'd say the memory is a bit overkill. If you get 1600 memory, you'll be in the sweet spot, as the CPU performance scales rather bad with memory speed in most applications (there are exceptions, of course).1 point

I said 'sex appeal' which roughly translates into general interest and thus, sales. The A-10 has a huge amount of sex appeal. Everyone knows it, people get nerd-ons for the GAU-8, it's been in tons and tons of movies, it's unique, it's special, trust me, it's pretty much the second most identifiable aircraft next to the F-14. I'm defining "sex appeal" as a general sense of how well-known an aircraft is, how 'publicized' it is, how much your general person will recognize it... I could even add in there 'how useful it is' and the F/A-18 would still come in last. PS: UNDENIABLE PROOF Compare it to the other three airframes and the result is the same - the F/A-18 is not an interesting aircraft for most people, it's not well-known, it's never done anything spectacular or particularly noteworthy, the most people know about them is when they crash into San Diego neighborhoods. F-14s are famous pretty much only because of Top Gun, A-10s are famous because of their giant cannon of own, F-15s are famous because of their completely unbeaten combat record and some Israeli flew one with one wing, and F-16s are famous because... well I don't really know why, maybe the Wild Weasel missions and that you just hear about them a lot in the news (well, you used to back when OIF / OEF made for headlines). Good thing F-15s and F-16s have tailhooks too.1 point

Just based on the posts here I would say it comes down to the Falcon vs. the Super Hornet. What about this. Since we cannot decide ED builds them both simultaneously. :-)1 point

I don't think goldfinger's FPS are representative. See my specs in sig; I get 45-60 fps engines dead, sitting on the runway. Even when i down my clock back to the default 3.4 my FPS doesn't go below 30. I've got my GTX 560ti clocked at 960 core, 1920 shader, 2250 memory. (Note that the sky in those screen shots is overcast, which I find to be the most FPS demanding weather.) IIRC the change is that HDR goes to 'normal', so if you had it on warm or cool you will see a difference in the quality of the image, and that's what you're seeing. If there is a change to FPS it is minor and it's more about your HDR settings than anything else. I have to wonder, with a 3.8 CPU, how do you get such low FPS??? Do you have anisotropic at 16 and AA at 32 or what??? Not familiar with ATI cards at all, is the 4890 old?1 point

Will someone please test this possible FPS increase tip? I don't want to open a new thread for this: 1. start the mission "the serpents head" and unpause. Do not move you default view. Press frame rate counter (default - Rctrl+pause) and note FPS. 2. alt-tab to exit and alt-tab to enter the game again. Note the FPS Exit the game and try this a few more times. Do you notice any difference? I sometimes get a nice FPS boost. Note that it is not related to HDR (I have it turned off). Maybe it is CPU i7 related? Thanks. Here - note the difference in the upper left corner:1 point

EDIT: having checked again I see that 1.1.1.0 has increased switching LOD distance for this railway bridge but I feel the top part of the structure still disappears and is noticeable... maybe add new LOD with most basic structure (with the top) to be visible till whole bridge disappears out of view instead of top part disappearing sooner?1 point

Well assuming that the next DCS will be a US fighter, most likely a f-18 or f-16. IMO I dont think it is neccessary to add another US fighter aircraft into FC3 but it would be interesting to get a European aircraft as a flyable since we already have russian and US aircraft in FC3. Itd be interesting to get the gripen, typhoon, Mirage whatever or if the next DCS is the F-18 hopefully another NAVY fighter to go head to head with the F-18 other than the Su-33.1 point

You got to be kidding me:music_whistling: I think our community is very patient however a lot of people (I'll speak for myself); I'm fed up with the wait for a DCS quality fighter. Since LOMAC was released I graduated University, started my career, got married, had 2 kids and purchased a home....yeah I've been patient lol. /end rant1 point

Wishes about Custom Snap Views in LockOn's controls: 1. Let the user have the option of letting a "Custom Snap View" remain where it goes (no jumping back to a previous view position) after pressing its keys and releasing them (eg, Num6-LWin). I mean, you don't have to hold the key(s) down any more for a custom snap view to remain at its postion. 2. Let the user have the freedom of having as many Custom Snap Views as he wants to. That is, something like a "Create Custom Snap View" button.1 point

We have been waiting and wanting another flyable for many years. Every patch or update we have been hoping a F-16 or F-18 would be there and everytime we are disappointed. I'm not counting on anything being added in FC3, thinking it will get what BS2 got, maybe a little more maybe a little less.1 point

As much as I love the history of the IDF, I wouldn't say it was brilliant, it was simply uncommon. When a challenge appears and a military force is truly applied to the objective, you see tactics that by today's standard might be considered "unconventional." The IDF simply doesn't care about what other countries think about how it operates... it just wants results. Foreshadowing of what modern air combat would look like in a true war, not limited-action conflicts in Africa and the Middle East. Back on friggin topic: Please note that units are not necessarily degrees. Meaning... think about an F-15 trying to land at 21 degrees alpha. (Instead of 21 units.) The tail would be buried into the ground. Difference being... FC2 displays alpha in degrees, whereas the real Eagle uses non-dimensional units. I think that's a pretty petty request, no offense. Considering the wealth of other inaccuracies that actually matter, that's small fry.1 point

Forgive me if i'm missing something, but why would we have to remove the A-10A to get a new aircraft? Believe me, I want a western multirole fast jet as much as everyone else, but we don't need to kill the legacy Hawg for it.1 point

Yeah, that's a shame. With some modding tools and some other features (some basic A/G radar functionality), Lock On could have been the perfect "lighter" sim to add various aircraft to (e.g. smth like Strike Fighters, but much better). Having aircraft like MiG-23, 25, A-6/7, etc. done on Lock On level of complexity added to the mix would have been awesome.1 point

Great to see many folks supporting A-10A in FC, that proves it's not about the depth of the sim only, but also about the joy and experience we had while flying FC. Great FC MP days can not be forgotten that easy, emotions rule everything at the end of the day.1 point

I was just in SHOCK and AWE when I first heard of this strike and the way they carried it out. It was just a brilliant brilliant idea. :smartass:1 point

Ok, gentlemen! It seems there are lots of A-10A lovers around. So, let's forget taking the A-10A's place, and make a new room for F/A-18C. Who would like the main idea of this thread? DCS: F/A-18E Super Hornet lovers, it's your turn!1 point

It has been some 25 years since the Israeli Air Force participated in winning an air duel, that being said they are by a longway the most experienced Air Force in jet v jet A2A combat, the F-15's k/d ratio is testament to this.1 point

well GG tharos, when you know for sure that the r77 were not opurchased for the mig29c, when you really have the much inside to the russian military and so many clearances, and can for sure say, that they did not buy these missiles, it should be peice of a cacke for you to get all the data for the real radar, to model it correctly, don´t you? still funny dude do you know how much is done here in germany in secret, which is not reveled to any civil person, and can you imagine that most of the guys producing do not know what unit they produce for? same will be true for russia1 point

Me!! Who does not have time to "master" A-10C instead put lgbs on A and fly...I can imagine there hundreds like me.. And why ED should take out the A-10A from FC? Are they incapable to create new slots for a flyable? You are really brilliant.. :D1 point
