No, passwording the server does not help. The hacker only has to send a specific packet to the right IP and port, and regardless if the server is passworded, it will crash.2 points

:music_whistling:Seems that some have too much time... :D BTW: editing this picture took more time than building this Stick!:megalol: I have also writen a small AHK script that sends a single "space-key down" when I hit the button. So I only have to clear all other button assignments out of DCS to prevent any conflicts. (I'm curious if this electrical wiring will work for the warthog too...) When will DCS Flying Legend: P-51D released?! -I'm ready! Lets hope it has nice FFB! :) Update!1 point

I started working on this toward the end of finishing up the new hardened aircraft shelter I made. I cant decide if I like how this turned out or not. So rather than scrap it, I thought I would post it here to get some input. Its not totally polished, but its mostly finished: Other than me, credit goes to OldCrow for the unwrapping1 point

A stunning clip that just adds to the reason why I pray for a Hornet module for DCS every day. I haven't embeded this clip because I insist it should be watched in expanded 720p on YouTube. This is what I live for. :)1 point

Shift function allows you to hold a key (ie: S4 paddle) and it "shifts" all the controls (if programmed) to perform a different function. you use the MAPKEYIO for simple shifting. The tempo and seq are functions that allow even more powerful programming. In my program if I hold the Paddle and hit S2 my sticks change the callibration of the axis, less sensitive. I hit that button combo again and it reverts to default. tempo allow you to have short and long key press to do different things. ie: I use gear horn on short press to send "eject" and long press for "gear up". With that I just hit it 3x short press to eject, or long press to toggle the gear.1 point

If you haven't learned the trimming yet, then learn it as stable hands-free hovering is impossible without it. Ka-50 is in a stable hover attitude with nose 5 degrees up and wings level in zero wind conditions. The amount of pitch up will depend on your center of gravity that shifts with fuel and weapons load a little bit but the 5 degrees is usually pretty much in the spot. The correct hover attitude is important to know as that's when the aircraft will not accelerate in any direction. There's no instrument for indicating lateral acceleration, only for speed and as such attitude is the only way to see if you are accelerating or not. Here's an easy way to get in to hover and maneuver the aircraft around accurately while in it. First reduce your speed as much as you can easily, but at least get under about 30km/h and then trim for hover attitude. If you have FD on then disable it before trimming. After trimming you are still moving slowly in some direction but your aircraft is now kept in a neutral attitude by autopilot so it will not try to accelerate in any direction unless you want it to. Reset the weapons system to get the HUD in NAV mode and get the velocity vector visible if you haven't already. You can now easily control the velocity vector with cyclic stick. If you are moving left push the cyclic to the right until velocity vector is centered in left/right axis. The same applies for forward/backward axis. When you have reduced velocity vector to a dot you are in the hover. You may need to adjust your trim a little bit at this point as it's likely the velocity vector will want to creep a little at some direction as your first trim was with some lateral speed which affects trim.1 point

I think many of the comments here , though well intentioned, are very nieve! This 'problem' rest squarely at the feet of the developer, ED. Regardless of who and what and why the servers are being attacked, its Eagle Dynamics responsibility to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Something, that for several possible reasons they seem reluctant to do. ? Since ED has failed to make a formal statement on the issue anything else about what they intend to do is pure speculation and has no value. At this moment we can assume that nothing is going to be done. I for one, a loyal supporter since the first Flanker series ... have come to the point where ED's attitude towards it customer base is so disappointing that I will soon move on to something else... much against my wishes. ED needs to wake up to its customer responsibilities ... loyalty is a two way thing! No doubt soon all the PC review and gamer sites will get wind of this issue .... then what! ED get off your high horse and resolve this now or face a real damaging downgrade in buyer confidence! Respectfully RP1 point

Thanks y2kiah for your reply. Your way to do the HSI is quite inspiring. Thinking about how to implement the HSI (and ADI) caused lot of headache for me. I think my skills are sufficient just to get a simple round dial instrument like a VSI connected and running in the Sim. But I had no clue how to do it for a more complex instrument like the HSI and ADI. Your "hybrid" way (using a "real" hardware bezel while a monitor behind replicates the instrument's indication) is a solution I haven't thought about at all. Another great example of "best sharing practice"... Thanks! And keep up your brilliant work!!1 point

The real fun for the "hacker", isn't in exploiting the loophole... it is in the chaos caused by it's antics in these here forums - in the division, the chinese whispers/ guessing games, knee jerks reactions, etc *edit: Making it the centre of attention is what it revels in... removing its oxygen by stopping any further reference to him/ her will take that revelling away from it.1 point

Openness Mate you hit it right on the head. Closed plugins and closed formats are good for no-one in the long term. The other thing that needs to happen (as a modder, now an ex-modder since I've given up modding DCS out of frustration) is that the modding interfaces need to be: * stable: no arbitrary changes from patch to patch. For example, when introducing event-based triggers in A-10C (around v1.0.0.7 or so, IIRC) the event logging was completely broken. * sensible: an example of the non-sensible, at the moment logging has a multitude of time units (eg. wallclock in some, date with no time, time since mission loaded, time since mission started). Initiator IDs are not unique within a game session and it is a PITA to convert from that into the unit type and associated callsign (not impossible, just a PITA). * accurate: example, things like the MiG-29 fuel flow from the export interface are not in any useful unit. The fuel unit reported seems to depend on the aircraft you fly. Game events callbacks often log incorrect or bogus data and can't be completely trusted. The get unit into calls were broken or inaccurate. All of these little things are easily testable and if automated and systematic unit testing is put in place they get caught and never regress. * interoperable: Lua tables for configuration might be convenient for the ED developers but it is awful for everyone who doesn't want to use Lua. XML would make more sense (it has much better interoperability). * documented: if you want modders then you have to document your interfaces, and maintain that documentation. Documentation that is incorrect is even worse than no documentation. The documentation has to be in English and written by a native english speaker. They also should be trained in a proper technical writing methodology (eg. Information Mapping, which is simply excellent IMHO). * open standards: choose open standards where you can. IEEE-1278 (DIS) over TCP or UDP for the multiplayer wire protocol; XML for configuration, with XSD schema for validation; OpenFlight for models with animation, damage states and level-of-detail; SOAP or REST webservices for non-time-critical information. Sometimes you can use open standards (eg. license restrictions on third-party models may require proprietary formats), but where you can, you should. In my opinion the more modders there are the greater the ecosystem around ED's products. The greater the ecosystem the more likely it is that players will stick around and buy ED's products. Being more open and having stable interfaces is the key to keeping modders on board. For me personally, after a sisyphean effort trying to mod EDs product in advanced ways (eg. moving map/flight computer; pilot stats; virtual controls etc) I got fed up because the things on the list above were only partially met, and each new product and release made it harder and more time-consuming, not easier, to integrate. From what I've seen the modders have been trying to communicate their needs to ED - it may seem like whinging but really the modders are trying to point out what would be most useful. We've received some support, and ED's devs have been very helpful where they can, but a more systematic approach would be wonderful. The reality is the recent restriction of Lua environments with no replacement interfaces has been a real pain (understandable for security reasons, but pretty much breaks more sophisticated mods, such as 16th_Speed's excellent slmod). More openness and stability would greatly facility modding and grow the resulting ecosystem. The resulting screenshots and tools attracts paying customers when they see a third party has adapted FC2/3/ DCS to match their own interests. This means a better experience for modders and players, and ED gets more players and more money.1 point

What about a small rotary switch that could mount on the gauge's bezel? Something small enough that the gauge's knob itself could cover the switch; then instead of the linkage and gearing for the knob you'd just have wires to route past the LCD to the magic circuitry. The rotary switch would need to turn 360 degrees of course. Just a thought - I'm just starting out with electronics so maybe someone more familiar with electronics can validate or invalidate this idea.1 point

????????????1 point

negative on the Helios. It would be a perfect solution for this, but for me part of the fun of this hobby is the build, and that goes for both hardware and software. I'm going to program my own HSI/ADI displays to be compatible with my pit communication system. The monitor is this one AT050TN22, I think the price has gone up That's the plan. I have to route an extended shaft around the bottom edge of the LCD, and mount the encoders behind the LCD. I will cut out gears to displace the shaft within the two cutout areas under each knob. It's complex, but the price I must pay for using actual dimensions. The ADI will be much simpler, because the LCD does not get in the way of the knob.1 point

Because your throttles effect fuel flow (not directly) and therefore core RPM, core RPM is also the primary indicator of engine health. Fan RPM also varies with air pressure and temperature, so 82% Fan RPM (for example) may be maximum throttle on one flight, but on the next you might be hitting 85% Fan RPM at full throttle. Where as in both cases core RPM 98% (IRL in won't be as it varies from aircraft to aircraft, and even between engines) at full throttle.1 point
