We're pleased to share some significant updates to the Vietnam War Vessels pack, version 0.4.0. Acknowledgments to @Eight Ballfor their contribution to the pack with the addition of the PBR MkII Patrol Boat. Alongside this, the MiG-17F "Fresco-C" joins the lineup, albeit in an early stage of development. @Beldin has made noteworthy adjustments to the F-8 Crusader config, incorporated into this release. You'll also notice a renaming of the Liveries folder to vwv_crusader and vwv_crusader_np for organizational purposes. Furthermore, with Beldin's assistance, improvements have been made to the taxi and runway routes of CVA-31. Notably, the Vietnam War Vessels mod is now licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license. No surprise once more "During recent checks QA" - Surely this should have been done before announcing the patch date of 3rd April?9 points

Totally disappointed at this point by ED. This issue was reported half februari. No hotfix, no official message or a word in the newsletters. This is not some sort of minor issue, but for a lot of people completely gamebreaking. Yes, there are some half baked fixed which may or not work for some, but i'm not inclined to fix this stuff for which i paid for this is not how you treat costumers4 points

If that's all you want to see, whatever. They aren't duplicates, they are remodeled originals to bring the textures closer to par with other PBR modules and with more manufacturing history and wartime use context in mind. Either way most of my work isn't even on the Userfiles, as that's not local enough for my target audience and I mostly stick to making liveries for players of a particular server I frequent. Hence my use of Google Drives most of the time. Anyway, you've apparently made your stand here and beyond this I just can't be bothered enough to get any more into this. I just wanted to get the best out of the F-16 and for others who fly it, and I've seen what those three (Mach3DS, Texac, Roughmaster) can do before and its nothing short of incredible and through their works have made DCS look sharply more photorealistic. This has nothing to do, or about my own works until you started bombarding my years-old threads yesterday on a dirt-hunting search. I'm just not interested in this squabbling Guh, anyway. clearly the testing works and QA have done their best to find issues that would create problems in the new patch. The single DCS version is good for the community. Even if this was an open beta patch it would have been delayed. thanks4 points

Aye, Im aware Afghanistan has a lot more going on than just more recent COIN stuff. Wags was however highlighting that its the modern map and will likely be mostly about COIN missions; if people will follow that logic or not is ofc another question, but it threw up the question. The problem with mission design is that DCS only really supports heavily scripted and predictable missions; Im not sure how much this lends itself to the chaotic/unpredictable nature of COIN missions. AI enemies cant react dynamically to players' presence and actions, which imo would be a core feature of counter insurgency. Besides the lacking of autonomy, im also concerned about the general AI. For example, ground units struggle to move in a straight line often enough without getting stuck, their situational awareness is not simulated. Neither is the allimportant factor of suppression, let alone realistic fragmentation damage from bombs. COIN often relies on the inferiority of anti-air of insurgents, but there is very little limitation to AA-fire in DCS; a single AK trooper might fire with the awareness and precision of a highly trained Gepard SPAAG crew. They also are not limtied by night-time, as another issue. All in all I dont see the technical basis for COIN operations in current DCS. So I wonder if (or rather hope) were gonna get some big AI upgrades with that map coming?4 points

The redrawing elements to a higher level of detail and accuracy than the default liveries and adding missing fasteners, panels, sealants, and other details is a big reason why the liveries authored by these three creators are of superior quality. Without meaning any disrespect to anyone, I agree with Magic Zach on this. If there would have been some way or still is a way to make it possible, a collaboration between the top creators to build upon all of their individual research and knowledge if nothing else would ensure that the new liveries do not miss details they have uncovered in their studies and included in their own works.3 points

That statement is not entirely correct although I agree with your sentiment. The following is not aimed at you. Meta did not break DCS for everyone. There are some people who have not been affected and are running v63 and even v64 fine. Yes, there appears to be a lot of people affected but we don't know how many. At best guess, from this forum, maybe 50-70. I understand that a lot of people are upset but there are also lots of people who don't use this forum and might be very happily using their meta headsets after updates without realizing some people are affected. We just do not have that data. I don't know how many people use meta headsets but I think it is a lot more than a 70. Would 500 be a good guess? How many people play DCS in VR or 2d? If the meta update has affected a "relatively" small number of people (compared to all DCS users) then it needs to be tested carefully otherwise the fix could have a big impact on all users.3 points

v1.1.0 - March 2024 Release This release brings fixes and quality-of-life additions. Since 2.9 many weapons were causing issues with DCS World and other mods. This included assets that would not spawn or broken guidance systems on some of my weapons. These bugs are currently fixed and hopefully, ED will not break something with the next patch . I've refactored most of the weapons to use ED's default code, so I am confident that we will be ok. The exterior model was also adjusted to fit with the default JF-17 animations thanks to the help of Currenthill. He also helped me to add dynamic boards. The rest of the changes can be seen below. To install delete your old version and you can follow this video: Link Regards, Whisky Developer Whisky Actual Liveries 313_Paegas, 59th_Jack, Isak Khysing, Megalax, Whisky Actual Special Thanks Breadmaker91, Currenthill, FatSpacePanda, FrM|Shaft, Gripen Viking, Roughmaster, Ulvar40, VSN Team (Cdpkobra and Razor+) Added [Cockpit] Mapped missing JF-17 functions to the JAS-39 Cockpit. [Weapons] Option to select different types of weapons in the entry.lua (AI folder). [External] Dynamic boards to the "Base Paint" default livery. (Big thank you to Currenthill). [Exterior] New animations for TEF (flaps), airbrakes, canards elevons and slats. (Big thank you to Currenthill). Changed [Cockpit] Missing texture on the Eject Safety Pin. [Cockpit] Adjust cockpit animations for the new exterior model. [Exterior] Remove JF-17 liveries from drop-down. [Weapons] Many generic weapons (JSOWs, Mavericks, GBUs) directly reads ED's or Deka's code to avoid issues. [Configuration] File structure and dependencies reviewed and optimized. [Configuration] New icon for Drop tank 1700 litres + Internal. Fixed [Weapons] The 2x AIM-120s option is listed as LD-10s in the SMS page. [Weapons] Station 6 is able to load 2x AIM-120s, while station 2 is only to load 1x AAM #2. [Weapons] OB 2.9 breaks several weapons... fixed most of them, the rest will be pending ED's fixes for the next patch. [Weapons] Adjust the gun position on the new model. [Cockpit] The IND LT will not dim; currently, they only turn off. [Cockpit] The Navigation light switch & Light switch are coded in the wrong order. Removed [Weapons] Spear anti-radiation missiles always miss the target, will add back once ED fixes the code. [Weapons] Fixed the MAR-1 Pylon locations, but I removed MAR-1 until ED fixes anti-radiation missiles. [Configuration] Removed all unnecessary files.3 points

To be frank I'm more after the changelog rather than the patch itself. The search for phrase "F-5E" is going to consistently return zero results, but the recent core changes are interesting. And I'm curious whether there's any followup to the awesome Dora audio rework.3 points

That's why it is a bummer that the classification in DCS does not matter at all: it is either Friendly or Hostile. Intercepts and ID should be quite an important component of air-to-air, but they are missing entirely.3 points

This post will focus on Khanabad-Karshi, Uzbekistan else known as Qarshi. Khanabad-Karshi was the base of the Soviet 87th Reconnaissance Air Regiment, 49th Guard Bomber Air Regiment and 39th Reconnaissance Air Regiment in 1979. 87th Reconnaissance Air Regiment Aircraft type MiG-21R Fishbed-H and Yak-28R Brewer-D. 49th Guard Bomber Air Regiment Aircraft type Yak-28I Brewer-C. 39th Reconnaissance Air Regiment Aircraft type MiG-25RB Foxbat. Attached photos for reference. 00. ED map 01-02. Actual location, current state 03-08. Late 70s photo of base, operations This airbase is missing from current plans and would be important to be included in order to re-create the conflict.2 points

Currently pilots are insta-unalived if they land on water. We often simulate (C)SAR to rescue pilots, who can then return to the fight. This is currently only possible if they bail out over land. Can't we give the little guys a dingy or something? Thanks!2 points

This is just your opinion and doesn't reflect that of the community for sure. I'm actually a very patient person and haven't complained about delays so far. Since we're waiting for an update since nearly six weeks and the patch announced for today has been pushed back by a week (at least), I would like to give my opinion: The last noteworthy feature updates for the F/A-18C, F-16C, AH-64D or the SC have been released more than three months ago. Instead bringing the already released modules out of early access status, ED seems to focusing it's resources to the release of more and more new, unfinished content (CH-47F, MiG-29A, Afghanistan, Iraq). The next feature update for the AH-64D was announced by Wags in an interview with Casmo as "very soon" for May or June 2024. The last AH-64D feature update has been delivered in December 2023. I hope you don't expect that the community really believes, that ED does not move many resources from developing existing early access modules to announced and/or pre-purchaseable modules like Afghanistan, when you let us wait more than five months for LINK, C-SCOPE and ZOOM for the AH-64D. Unfortunately, I have lost my trust and will no longer support ED by (pre-)purchasing early access modules, as long as ED doesn't change the current strategy. This is my opinion.2 points

BIGNEWY has a thick skin and I'm sure he thinks the same as any sane person does. Meta brought out a software update and it broke everything, how is that EDs problem? How can ED possibly tell the future and what Meta are going to do next, this is a Meta issue, get real. Apply the workaround and move on.2 points
-
I can’t begin to express my frustration at this issue that has been here for weeks… and the fact that we can’t get any kind of hot fix. I understand the workaround are there for some but they don’t work for me. I get Errors so I’m stuck waiting for a patch that is now delayed for another week. I don’t understand why we can’t just fix this one issue outside of the patch2 points

Expect nothing. That way you cannot be disappointed, and anything that does pitch up can only be a pleasant bonus. She IS coming . . .2 points

@BIGNEWY Iam a bit confused . . . nothing new there . . . I thought the DCS VR crashing issue was a Meta Quest Link App Version - PCVR update to version 63.0.0.216.361 (63.0.0.216.361) ? Why does DCS have to come up with the fix? On the Meta Forums they are working on a fix as well. Can you also confirm that DCS is working with Meta to resolve this issue? Yes, I have read this entire thread since it was first posted back in February and get lost in translation . . . thus, the above questions. Thank you for your time! Aries . . . out2 points

@DraganWhile I agree with your findings of decreased effectiveness, I would offer that launching an APKWS from 6 miles would have negligible effects having lost a significant amount effectiveness/energy beyond 4 miles unless fired from a much higher altitude/AOA than from lower altitudes. Remember that impact angle and impact point on the target (side-on or rear as opposed to frontal) play a much greater role for longer distance shots. I would also suggest that the optimal distance to be right at 3.5 miles +/- .5 miles.2 points

Piloting the gazelle is a real pleasure, it is easy to tame, you can practically do what you want with it of course while respecting the principle of rotary wing flight, but it would be nice if you weren't forced to put so many feet straight stationary which has long fatigue on the right leg. In addition, when I watch the flight videos of the gazelle in the cockpit the pilot does not push the right foot as much (in real life) as in DCS; I hope this will be rectified. The gazelle has become a super module Thanks in advance2 points

As an italian, can't wait for the release of the 3 italian ships And as usual, infinite thanks for your "shipyard". They should pay you to include them in the base game2 points

Maybe the Authentikit fella could save the day for our levers? I’ve been threatening for ages to buy something for the Lanc when it comes. If it makes more sense to have a couple of things bound together I’d live with it. I have rpms bound together on the Mossie, doesn’t hurt much. I’m not on the discords, might have a look about it again. Cheers for the update.2 points

I would love to, but my historical references/sources revolve around Soviet Cold War aviation history and tactics. You already know more about Peshawar than me! I just wanted to expand on the Soviet airbases that took part in the USSR-Afghanistan conflict. Five Soviet air bases took part in the Afghanistan conflict. Three of them are included in the general area of the map. This post will focus on Kokaydi, Uzbekistan else known as Termez (40km NorthEast of it) Kokaydi was base of the Soviet 115th Guard Fighter Regiment's Airport in 1979. Really? Just because something was heading West didn't mean it was automatically a hostile - it could be a returning friendly. ID was actually going to be even more of a problem due to the larger number of aircraft involved.2 points

I understand that some maps have different borders per year, but these can be easily toggled on/off in the Mission Editor -> DRAW list. Having the map makers make a unique polygon drawing layer for each country will all mission designers to easily create triggers based on boundary crossings without having to resort to the frequently difficult to use accurately polygon drawing tool in the M.E. It will also make clear on busy maps, just where those countries borders are.2 points

Why? DCS ground units and AI are pretty bad. Like the whole air to ground interaction systems of units under air attack is terrible. DCS mission maker issues aside where they park a tank/infantry platoon in the middle of an empty field aside. Once attacked those vehicles/infantry should be moving as rapidly as possible to actual cover (where they would have been IRL anyway). DCS AI gunnery for non radar guided AAA is absurd. The BMP-1 or 2 are still better than dedicated AAA platforms like the shilka, and every guy with an unstabilized 50 cal is vasiliy zaitsev. And never mind stuff like shorads vs fast jets. Literally unless a unit is notified by radio or have their own radar running, they have almost no chance to react to a fast jet attack IRL. There is literally no time to react to something coming in at 500mph. and most infantry shorads basically need like 30 secs (it varies) to actually cool the seeker and get ready to fire, assuming they actually hear/see the jet coming in the first place. But in DCS AI spotting is perternatural levels of vision and SA, all AI units immediately know where you are and immediately begin to direct insanely accurate ground fire at you. Instead of doing what would actually do IRL which is run for cover. Never mind the actual after effects of CBU-ing a set of units. They literally do-not care unless you actually fully destroy the unit, there is no morale, no shock of "holy cow" we almost just died. Just T1000 levels of determination to kill you. These problems have been major issues for years as well, so I have 0 faith that ED will do anything to actually improve this systems, or things like SAM's in DCS which are also variously broken. You'd think for a game where the critical pieces are the bombing things or getting shot at by sams that it would actually have a higher priority to make it more realistic but its just not and never really has been. Who actually cares about animations? I mean the only thing there is so ED can post some replica "kill videos" from GWOT in some trailer, which is tacky and in poor taste at best. Actually modeling realistic AI behavior should 10,000x more important. Same with "gunnery" effects. I can guarantee you private snuffy or mr tank commander's first priority is not having a showdown at the O.K. corral with enemy helo or ground attack jet, their first priority is getting under cover where they won't get murdered by enemy air, and let the attached ADA detachment deal with it. As for soviet units, yeah we desperately need older SAM systems that are the most commonly used ones in the world, but we have needed them for a decade and still nothing.2 points
