26 July 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, It has been quite some time since we spoke of the development progress of the Dynamic Campaigns for DCS. Indeed, our team faced some technical challenges which demanded substantial architectural changes. Below we have summarised the current positive development tasks in progress. Enjoy! We are happy to announce our DCS 2024 Screenshot Competition where you can showcase your best DCS moments. We want to see your creativity! Read all the details on the forum post here and earn ED miles! We are also pleased to inform you of the new DCS: UH-1H Peacekeeper Lebanon Campaign by Flying Cyking being available in the next DCS update. This campaign will provide 13 challenging mission adventures for UH-1H pilots, and it includes a comprehensive PDF. Please stay tuned for the update! Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Dynamic Campaign Development Progress The DCS Dynamic Campaign (DCSDC) has been a massive undertaking, but we are making steady progress in both the strategic and tactical elements. Here is an outline of our development tasks. Work continues to configure ground AI forces command and control. There are three main systems: The border and frontline system, navigation based on terrain and surface-type, and a multi-level formation system. These are combined into one code for the final fine-tuning of ground combat. The decision-making system for ground force objectives is being tested and refined as a function of force size, unit locations, and the general objectives of the coalitions. To improve ground forces movement calculations, a mechanism was created for the DCSDC engine that optimally analyses routes between points, whilst taking into consideration roads, terrain, and potential travel speeds across different types of surfaces. A navigation mesh editor is also being developed to allow campaign creators to modify old terrains to suit their needs. We believe these components can be applied not only within Dynamic Campaigns, but also for non-dynamic DCS missions and campaigns. Testing of the integrated air force ‘command and control’ of DCSDC into DCS continues This includes both the creation and functioning of the missions and optimization of different mission task flight profiles. Looking ahead, there will be tests made for all components of the strategic AI troop control and player participation. Testing of Dynamic Campaigns has resulted in a new tracking system that allows a detailed accounting of actions and behaviours. This is critical to the debugging process of such a complex task. The current DCS track file system has also been expanded with the ability to store RTS layer information. The resulting systems will allow you to review campaign events and provide a DCSDC active save system. This active save system will allow you to resume saved games and rewind time to replay an unsuccessful episode of a campaign. Screenshot Competition Capture the action! Dev Update 1: Systems and Flight Model The EFM is responsible for the simulation of the flight dynamic model, engine model and aircraft systems. In early 2022 we started the development of the unique modular EFM framework that is used by the T-38A. It is specifically designed for the simulation of different aircraft types, providing dedicated simulation models for various engine concepts. Using this framework as a foundation, we've already completed different aircraft in the past 2 years: Two variants of a supersonic light fighter jet that is privately operated by the Virtual Turkish Stars. A high-performance turboprop trainer that is privately operated by the Virtual Silver Falcons. A piston engine light utility aircraft that is internally used as an initial testbed for new features. Within the framework, the aircraft is simulated by combining numerous logical components. Each component has its state and is responsible for a dedicated functionality. It reacts to environmental conditions and user input, triggers corresponding animations and most importantly simulates its behaviour. Each component is self-contained and can be reconfigured for the particular use case. This approach allows us to reuse many of the common components shared across the different aircraft, greatly increasing the fidelity of the implementation with each iteration. Flight Dynamic Model The flight dynamic is defined by over 25 stability and control derivatives. For the T-38A we’re using derivatives in non-linear form that take into account the angle of attack and the effect of Mach. These coefficients have been accumulated from various sources: Manufacturer wind tunnel tests U.S. Air Force flight tests Empirical estimations based on the aircraft geometry CFD analysis To make sure the flight dynamics closely match that of a production aircraft, we're using the results from U.S. Air Force stability and control tests and the handling figures of the flight manual. In addition, we’ve implemented several characteristical traits of the T-38A, including: The infamous stall characteristics with buffeting and high sink rate. An accurately recreated yaw and pitch damper system with variable gain and interconnected aileron and rudder. Flight controls with authentic deflection curves and variable deflection limits depending on the flight condition. Throughout the whole development process, extensive flight tests are performed by the Virtual Turkish Stars to identify and iron out any handling discrepancies. System Model To achieve a simulation of the aircraft systems on a near-study level, we’re following the “device and conquer” principle: The different systems are broken down into their elementary components, each individually simulated with a well-defined responsibility without the need to know the overall system state. The electric system is correspondingly a combination of numerous switches, circuit breakers, two generators, a battery and a multitude of electric devices as consumers - all connected to two AC and one DC bus. As an example, the 24 Volt battery has a capacity and is either charged or discharged, solely depending on the arriving voltage - regardless of whether it's powered by the generators or the external ground power. Likewise, the fuel system is comprised of fuel valves, several fuel cells, two boost pumps and - connected via fuel lines - the two jet engines as consumers. The hydraulic system consists of hydraulic pumps, hydraulic lines and hydraulic actuators like landing gear, gear doors and control surfaces. We are excited to share more in the future! Thank you for your overwhelming support!9 points

Hi, we are preparing a proper update about this. In the meantime I can confirm we are working on the F-104 already and at good pace. Some members of the team are dedicating most of their time to the 104 while some others are still more focused on the F1M.5 points

The goal is to visualize the targets realistically. You're not supposed to easily spot fighters from 10nm. If you don't care about that and prioritize seeing the targets no matter what - there are labels for that. 2D display is the exact same technology just bigger than VR - which has two 2D displays. Stereography doesn't help with distant dots. Pixel size theoretically should make it easier but in the end it's PPD and gfx engine implementation that counts. Make sure you have the real fov set before comparing RL visibility. Otherwise you end up with the picture like above - high fov presented on monitor - even if big and close to you, it's still too small to represent RL scale. btw: this is VR forum.3 points

You mean like HOJ modes.... yeah, others have made such missiles that perform the same basic function. Although mathematically an application specific seeker is more like to achieve a kill, this is in accordance with Soviet doctrine which is why they also made medium range IR missiles. Expecting ALL global military doctrine to be identical is extremely ignorant.3 points

Not aiming here modernized at 9.12 with R-77s and other stuff, we have today in operational use, but rather to the fact that comprehensive upgrade was offered as early as of 1996. Furthermore when working with foreign governments there is no place for rushing incomplete products into production, since flaws get revealed at factory and site tests and the money is paid on delivery performance and not immediately at full. Consumer market is much more forgiving in terms of supplying incomplete products with features being added at later time. Sadly sometimes some of them never get delivered.3 points

The maker of the Iron Done (and other Israeli assets) has put a hold on all work whilst the conflict is ongoing. Hopefully when that ends they will get back to it.3 points

You also did a favour for the Blue side by adding the AIM-120B (1994) and the AIM-120C (1996) to the F-15C MSIP II (1985). Straight to the good stuff for BlueFor. Ok, ok, I know what you might say, that the F-15C MSIP II in DCS is a ~2000s one with the 221kg, mechanically scanned, planar array, 8-20Ghz, AN/APG-63v1 RADAR with a range of 160km and was concluded in 2020. Officially announcing the upgrade work to the RADAR in 1993, and using the software suite of the APG-70v. This RADAR was relabled as the AN/APG-63v1 and started production in 1999. Over a decade more modern, and you are saying that giving the R-77 to a jet that carried them is a favour, a gift from the almighty and all knowing ED, while still not adding missiles that did exist with Fulcrums, Flankers, ect such as the passive R-27 missiles. Honestly, who here got the favour? . .3 points

Hello, I hope you are having a good day. If I am making this post on this Forum is because I need help with the development of my aircraft carrier mod. In fact, I have been developing a French aircraft carrier mod for the community for some time. And I'm encountering some problems, particularly with the new Supercarrier update. Indeed my mod could accommodate stations such as the LSO station for aid to the country and therefore add a touch of entertainment and simulation to the mod. With the arrival of the Supercarrier update and the AIRBOSS functionality, I therefore wanted to work on the Charles de Gaulle Airboss Station and that's when I realized that the Stations no longer worked on the mod despite code that appears correct. I deduced that the new update made the stations on the mods unusable.. However, it is important for me and for the mod to make it as complete as possible and therefore to make the stations work in order to make the mod as complete as possible for the community. If anyone has solutions or if official DCS developers can see the post in order to discuss it that would be extraordinary. I thank you all very much for the attention given to my post and I wish you all an excellent day. If you are looking to contact me to discuss the mod, solutions etc. I will put my contact details below. Discord : feauxe Gmail : Marais.gaby@gmail.com Thanks very much everyone.2 points
