  1. EA-18G Style Electronic Warfare Script by Timberwolf As we all know, ESAc_matador's EW script is now quite outdated. I have created this script, which emulates EA-18G style jamming, including defensive and offensive jamming, spot jamming, a jammer capacity system, and a loadout system. 1. Setup Place your Growler unit in the mission editor with the exact unit name defined in the script (default: "Growler" in jammerUnits). Ensure MIST is loaded before this script. Load this script as a DO SCRIPT FILE trigger at mission start. Spot jamming may break if the jet is spawned within 80nm of SAMs. Also, spot jamming may sometimes jam the wrong target; just turn it OFF and back ON to fix it. 2. F10 Radio Menu Once the mission starts and your aircraft spawns, open the F10 Other menu. You’ll see: EW Jamming Loadout Sets emitter capacity (energy available for jamming). Options: No Jammers, 1x ALQ-99, 2x ALQ-99, 3x ALQ-99, 2x ALQ-249, 2x ALQ-249 + 1x ALQ-99. Capacity scales from 0 to 3500 units. Defensive Area Jamming On/Off – continuously spoofs incoming radar-guided missiles in a full 360° bubble. Offensive Area Jamming On/Off – suppresses all enemy SAM radars within ~50 km (line-of-sight). Directional Jamming Offensive and Defensive submenus Select front, left, right, rear arcs for sector-based jamming. Spot Jamming Off – disable spot jamming Target Selection – submenu auto-populates with SAM/ship radars in range. Each option is shown as: NATO Name | Bearing° | Range nm Selecting one will start focused jamming against that site. 3. Jamming Behavior Emitter Capacity Energy is consumed while jamming and regenerates when idle. Rates: Defensive area: 15/sec Offensive area: 15/sec Directional: 5/sec Spot jamming: 30/sec (tripled from original 10) Defensive Jamming Attempts to spoof incoming radar-guided missiles. Success chance increases closer in (e.g., 98% inside 3 nm). Spoofed missiles are destroyed, with a debug message showing approximate distance and bearing (e.g., “Spoofed missile at ~5 nm (3 o’clock)”). Offensive/Spot Jamming Puts SAMs into WEAPON HOLD while suppression is active. They return to OPEN FIRE if jamming ends, emitter capacity depletes, range/LOS is broken, or spot target is lost. Spot jamming is strongest within ~35–50 nm (depending on loadout), with probabilities tapering to ~20–25% at max range. Altitude improves spot jamming effectiveness. 4. Overheat Protection If emitter capacity drops below 15 units, all jamming shuts down to prevent “overheat.” A debug message will inform you: “Growler jamming automatically shut down due to overheat.” 5. Debug Messages Show emitter capacity, active modes, spoofed missile kills, suppression successes/failures, and automatic shutdowns. Messages are group-specific (only your flight sees them). 6. Best Practices Use Loadout menu before enabling jamming. Conserve energy—full-area defensive + offensive together will drain capacity quickly. Spot jamming is energy-intensive (30/sec). Save it for priority threats (e.g., SA-10 or Patriot). If capacity runs out, wait ~20–30 seconds to regenerate before re-enabling. Flying higher improves spot jamming line-of-sight and effectiveness. Attached is the script, MIST, and a sample mission file with everything already loaded. For the sample file, make sure to select your loadout first and then wait for the jammer capacity to spool up before spawning the strike flight and jamming. Have fun EA18G EW Script by Timberwolf.lua mist_4_5_126.lua EW Script Demo.miz

  5. I wouldn't say no to modern units, but we're missing huge amounts of Cold War assets - and those assets are still relevant today. Old stuff can get reused years or decades later. New stuff can't be used before it was made (well they can in DCS, but it's not relevant to any kind of even semi historical scenario). Even when it comes to the 4th gen fighters I tend to set missions as early as possible. Certainly not in the 2020's. 80's, 90's, and 2000's units are what I feel the lack of.

  13. As some may know I service SoHo and smaller companies like up to ~25 people, nothing too big, so it's relative comparable to what can happen to you, me, everybody. Today was such a day, nothing really special, replace old HW with Win10 with 6 new Win11 Pro clients which put together, GB-B850-9600x-1TB 990Pro-Seasonic Platinum 500w fanless-32GB_6000 and a DarkRock-5 in a nice and quiet bequet tower. The building was fun despite 1 MB was DOA, but they just flew. Did that 2 weeks ago and today I planned to roll them out. Save Data and Mail from old PC to server Setup local LAN static IP and DNS rename PC join AD setup accounts install all LAN printers restore Data and Mail rinse & repeat...1..2..3..4..5..BANG !!!!! I accidently ended up on the wrong desktop, i was in RDP on Server instead of on the local Desktop, both had 2 File Explorers open, Task manager, windows over windows, I opened the the RENAME THIS PC on the wrong Desktop !! ME IDIOT !!!! I RENAMED THE Active Directory Controller, AD-DC, to PC-3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hit OK and then found out FUUUUUuuuuuuu§& WRONG RDP --> WRONG FILE EXPLORER --> WRONG CONTROL PANEL -----> GOD DAMN WRONG MACHINE to rename and I picked the worst machine you can possibly rename while in production and running THE DOMAIN CONTROLLER My blood froze, my pulse went to 180 from chilling low 60s, my promise to be home at 19:30h THE LATEST suddenly became a lie and my biggest fear was: "You're gonna either have some damn luck, PRETTY SOON, or you end up with Acronis, putting the Backup from last night on" Ya, after you made the bootstick, 20min, went upstairs to the server. a real ClusterFu%§ visualising what was ahead of me if I didnt come up with something quick, quickly . So, I know how to rename a DC, you DON'T do it like you do with any other Windows machine, it's a Powershell command, 3 of them iirc, with reboots and DNS entries. Not complicated, but must be obeyed or you screw up the directory, or your access to it...f you only run 1 DC, that must be said to be fair. OK..Google... it says...you did the WRONG thing, there is NO easy way out, you either use a Backup or REINSTITUTE the Domain, which basically means you might as well reinstall the whole damn thing, that's 1 day alone if ALL goes right. I did that server and it is not difficult, just a lot of stuff and it takes time and care. So...I had no choice.. I had to reboot it while I was there, no way out, you dont want to expore the outcome of that 40km away and only VPN,Teamviewer/RDP/VNC at hand. OK, the server has an Enterprise Dell iDrac that I can access from here, that would have worked even from remote...but here it goes. So I rebooted, there was no "rename again" back to SRV possible, it needed the reboot to commit. So I did. It booted to login screen, so far so good. At least no AD DB error while booting, that is a total mess then. OK, OK...so far great...try to login.. Login as admin and pwd --> Red Pop-Up --> No security entry in AD Database for this workstation. Login denied! OHH SH!T You cannot log into the local domain aka PC/Server on a DC, it is ALWAYS a log in into AD-admin. So I could not do SRV\administrator to log into the Server locally w/o Domain. I tried despite I knew it wouldn't work and it didn't, waah ! You're finally screwed !!!! You have a booting 2022 AD-Controller with a wrong name that doesnt connect to the network, doesnt show shares you could connect to and SOMEHOW work, heck, if the SQL's would run, I'd have more time to sort out things...but this beast doesnt do ANYTHING but boot to Welcome screen and sit there forever. mI also couldn't even finish the 6th PC and drive home, I was about to join AD when that happened There is no guide on Google or in AI that tells you how to redo that mishap. It's a nail in the server's coffin that you usually don't get out again. That is what gave me headaches, the not having options to fix it, just FIX IT, god damn, it's only a few lines of code...ok maybe a few more it's AD and thus deeply DNS integrated...WTF, how could you fall into exactly this pit, this No-Way-Out pit, with a big "How to Sink a DC" sign above it in Neon. Aaarghhh, a big client..and you screwed up his DC, it better runs Monday morning 7am, no matter what, no matter. So...I have it all on Acronis on a Linux Server as well as in Acronis Cloud, that would be the ultimate thing to fix it if I didnt come up with a solution, something dead simple, stupid simple, as quick&dirty as the renaming was. But what. OK,...lets try F8 and Safe Mode, maybe there is something that can be done.....but wait....I cannot reboot or shut it down. The DC-Server Welcome Screen in contrast to Client Windows OS has no Button to restart or shutdown, it's a safe guard. Well, lets see Dell's iDrac....but there have never been drivers installed in the OS for any iDrac, so I did not expect see a graceful OS shutdown/reboot option, just the normal AC operations which I knew. I was right, no graceful options, warmstart or cold restart or OFF. Yeah, what a freaking nightmare, I have to reset the server now as well, a Russian Roulette with AD Database and RAID's, you never reset server unless you really really really have to. I had to ! Show balls !! Grab it btP ! I hit warm restart and was then greatet with a UEFI Secure Boot error, luckily I could just say "screw you, I already have enough trouble!" and clicked it away and it kept booting through the many Dell UEFI and FW screens, I kept hitting F8 over and over agin. Made it, Boot options came up 1 to 9..or 0 god knows. 4 is Safe Mode.... but wait....boot to LAST KNOWN WORKING CONFIGURATION ! ???? OK, that is not ment to fix any AD structural damage if there is any but it should rewind the actual PC-settings I changed a reboot ago !? Let's try, there is really nothing to loose but the 5min it takes to boot. If it screws up and crashes I go the Acronis route, chill and wait until restored, if Acronis lets me down I am screwed, then I am gonna spend Sunday here, for free, fixing my sh!T. Monday 7am is deadline. The server booted, as before, login available, no errors so far....now try the usual DOMAIN\administrator PWD and see if it locks up. TATTAA....It fixed it, dead simple decade old rescue option fixed the misconfig, in a very lucky way I admit. The narrow path with too much domain on one side and too severly misconfigured HW on the other side, this option was golden, it saved a lot of work, money and effort. And I, I will, after 30 years, watch even closer now..on which RDP or Desktop I am before I rename a machine in a Directory ! I really felt baaaad the first 5 minutes after it happened, the"You screwed it Up!" hit hard. Anyway, that server booted as nothing ever had happened, DNS was correct, DHCP changes I made were also still present, all good. Fixed that last PC, printers, users, Mail, done. When I got home, 2h late, my step daughter looked at me, said "You know how late you are!!?" went out and took off...LoL I still felt great, still do, having a beer and typing this.... better than installing a 2022 SRV with AD, Rolls, Software, Users and what not else till 2am and all Sunday too. Done that, thank you, my beer tastes a lot better than that ! God save the command "Revert to last known working configuration" Prost

  14. Two reasons 1. I'd love to have a small, typical, GA aircraft so I can practise that type of flying without having to go to the hassle of installing and configuring that civil simulator. 2. Just to see what the result would be if the bods at ED produced an aircraft of this type, esp the flight model.

  15. 29 August 2025 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We are making steady progress on DCS: Iraq. Work has focused on completing the Iraq North region with clipmap refinements, corrected road and rail alignment, and more lakes. New airfields include H-2, H-3 Main, H-3 Northwest, H-3 Southwest, Al Kut, and Mosul airfields. Existing airfields have also received attention with refined embankments, fixed taxiway collisions, added ground support objects, and a more accurate water tower at Qayyarah Airfield West. We have also cleaned up open hangars of excess detail and unified settings so that all non destructible models are correctly flagged as Indestructible. From the 5th to the 7th of September, 2025, make sure to check out the Sim Gaming Expo taking place at Renaissance Convention Center in Chicago. Renowned DCS campaign creator Baltic Dragon and the lead developer from the Airplane Simulation Company will be showcasing the imminent arrival of the DCS: C-130J. Don't miss your chance to get your hands on the first “big bird” in DCS aircraft with a 30% pre-purchase discount, and please drop by for the meet and greet. The Red Flag EU server will be hosting Operation Liberty Dawn on the 30th of November, 2025. We are inviting you to take part in Nevada Test and Training missions; please contact Command via the official Red Flag EU Discord. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Iraq Development Progress We are adding several new airfields to the Iraq North region and making a series of terrain and existing airfield refinements to the DCS: Iraq map. Clipmap adjustments are complete, and ground object settings have been normalized so that all non destructible models are now correctly flagged. This ensures consistent behaviour across the map as we move into the next round of art and performance passes. Please check out the development screenshots and stay tuned for the update coming soon. A key focus of this Iraq North update will be the addition of the H-2, H-3 Main, H-3 Northwest, and H-3 Southwest airfields in western Iraq. These served as critical Iraqi airbases during both Gulf Wars and as the focus on numerous offensive counter air, suppression of air defenses, SCUD-Hunt, and fighter sweep missions. To the north at Mosul, the Mosul Airfield has been added, as well as the surrounding area being improved. The southern portion of this region will see the addition of Al Kut airfield that also saw extensive action during the Gulf Wars and the earlier Iran-Iraq War. Several unique points of interest are also being added; the Kirkuk and Al-Shaab Stadiums, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Grand Festival Square, Mar Mattai Monastery, Baghdad and Babylon palaces, and more. This is in addition to improvements to the existing airfields such as better hangars, control towers, and terminals. Following the release of the Iraq North update (similar to the recent Afghanistan Map update), the full-attention of the Iraq map team will focus on the southern region to include all or portions of southern Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar. Much of this work has already started, along with the addition of several Iranian airfields to allow Iran-Iraq War scenarios. Sim Gaming Expo Special guests We are excited to announce that DCS will be represented at the inaugural Sim Gaming Expo, a community-driven celebration of simulation taking place in Chicago, Illinois. This event will bring together enthusiasts from across the globe to experience the latest in simulation hardware, meet content creators, and take part in engaging panel discussions with industry leaders. One of the highlights of the show will be the opportunity to fly the upcoming DCS: C-130J by Airplane Simulation Company before its official launch. Campaign and mission developer Baltic Dragon will be there to showcase his specially crafted C-130J missions that demonstrate the full capabilities of this outstanding new module. Visitors will also have the chance to experience DCS on the impressive SimCraft full-motion simulator, flying missions designed by Baltic Dragon. DCS twitch streamer Ultrasaurus, known for sharing her DCS adventures, and Rifle, a real-world Special Forces Operator and JTAC/Instructor who actively uses DCS as a training tool, will be there to connect with fellow DCS pilots and share their experiences. RED FLAG EU Operation Liberty Dawn To mark the 50th Anniversary of Exercise Red Flag, RED FLAG EU will host its final event of the year: Operation Liberty Dawn. This will be a full-scale, multi-squadron, dawn strike against a hostile regime in the Nevada Test Training Range terrain. This large-force exercise will feature: Joint Task Force Blue executing SEAD, DEAD, OCA, SCAR, CAS, and Strike packages Player aggressors simulating hostile air opposition Heavy, layered IADS with realistic SAM placements Live JTAC, AWACS, ATC, and Range Control provided by Digital Controllers Aggressor operations provided by Bandit Works Squadrons from across the community will come together for a high-threat, contested environment, replicating the complexity and pressure of real world Red Flag exercise. Participation: This event is primarily for organized squadrons (limited solo pilot slots may be available). To request access, contact Command via the official Red Flag EU Discord. Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,

  16. Also confirm that you aren't running DCS as administrator, can check under the shortcut for the exe as well under the Shortcut and Compatibility tab and make sure that Run as administrator isn't ticked. This was a known issue a while ago with WinWing MFDs. If you have modified the Windows UAC settings then this can also lead to things being run as administrator. Looking for another reference as I believe there is also another app that DCS can be launched from that can cause this issue as well.

  23. While the description in this not too technical article could be applied both to R-27R and R-77, we can not be sure that R-77 operates precisely the same. Simply the level of details is not enough, this is informational article for someone who is not too deep into electronics. Furthermore they had to place additional installation into the radar itself.

  27. When the F-86 was released, it was way out of its depth DCS wise, then the Mig-15 came along. We had the Mig-19, also very limited. The Harrier Gr.1, Gr3 were vastly different from the AV-8B. The Gr.9 was in a class of its own compared to the AV-8B and would certainly have a place in DCS. The FRS.2 would also be a very competitive airframe. The Tornado in development is the German IDS, a very different beast to the Tornado Gr. 1, 1a,1b, and would require a lot of imagination to pass it off as an RAF aircraft. The Bucc is a superb prospect, one that I am surprised hasn't been picked up. The Hunter is in the league of the F-86/Mig-15, it certainly has a place. The Sea Vixen and Lightning would also be strong contenders, in my opinion, given the growing trend for 60's era aircraft. As RB are now sitting in their corner and withholding their toys, the opportunity is there for someone to pick up on the Harrier, etc. Regarding the PvE/PvP statement, I am unfamiliar with PvP as it does not interest me. PvE is a different matter; in PvE, the older aircraft have massive potential (Kola and Germany Map), so it's somewhat ignorant to say they don't. If the argument that older aircraft with early weaponry are non viable, then surely the C-101CC, L-39ZA, Mig-15, Mig-21, F-86, F-5E, etc, have no place in DCS? Why are we waiting for a C-130? The Mig-29A, a VERY limited aircraft, is literally just around the corner. The A-1E Skyraider is in dev, the F-104 also in dev, the OV-10 Bronco by Split Air has a decent following... PvP and PvE non starters by your definition.

  28. VR Test on Germany map, instant action at Berlin with UH-1H Nvidia 581.15 August 28 - DLSS/Quality - Quest 3 and Virtual Desktop - RTX 4080 --> With my current parameters and Smooth Motion OFF : Takeoff site : ~64fps. Radar site : ~76 fps --> Same parameters with Smooth Motion ON : Takeoff site : ~51fps. Radar site : ~60 fps - Much more blurry/fuzzy fps value taken from DCS (frame rate counter RCtrl+Pause) The ones given by NVidia App are completely different Conclusion for me, 10-15 fps decrease and image more blurry. I will stay out of this Smooth Motion functionality for VR.

  30. With the Quest Pro; Comfort is awful unless you get a third party strap, I get a headache after a while. With the pancake lenses you get edge to edge clarity on the QP, as opposed to a sweet spot on the PSVR2 with its older Frenel lenses which makes things less clear outside that spot. The LED panels on the QP while lower resolution are sharper for things like text due to its subpixel arrangement (full RGB stripe) as opposed to the OLED panels on the PSVR2 which uses a pentile arrangement where some pixels share subpixels. On the other hand the PSVR2 has much better contrast, particularly notable on night missions where you either have grey black skies (with local dimming off) or lots of halos (with local dimming on) while on the PSVR2 it’s a true black and just looks spectacular. Other things like looking into the sun or bright clouds are much better on the PSVR2 when they get washed out on the QP. The other big difference is the PSVR2 is providing native display port output while the QP is sending a compressed data stream. Firstly there is an overhead to that compression (even though most graphics cards handle it very well) and there is decompression required on the headset side which eats battery life. The second is that no matter what people say I do notice compression artefacts, particularly on things like the sky. Another factor I noticed is that the stereoscopic vision is better in the PSVR2. It reminds me of when I first put a Rift S on and was blown away by that feeling of being in the cockpit. The Quest Pro feels a lot more like you’re watching the game on a screen to me. Ironically both are helped a lot with a third party strap, the quest pro can be made more comfortable (albeit still not brilliant), and the sweet spot issue on the PSVR2 is helped a lot by having a third party strap so you can get it stable on the sweet spot. I use the Globular Cluster kit on both headsets. The way I would summarise it is that if my absolute 100% priority was having the cockpit as sharp as possible I would go QP over PSVR2. On the other hand if the environments and immersion are the most important thing (which to me is kind of the whole point of VR) the PSVR2 is by far the better of the two now that the performance can be so good. Do a nighttime cat shot in the PSVR2 and you will understand.

  31. This is very sad! I still hope to see a new 3D model for the Kiowa, as well as textures. I also hope to see the flight model fixed. The Kiowa isn't that agile, much less able to hover with 100% fuel and 4 Hellfires equipped. It's very agile, and I've seen pilots commenting that it can't do this in real life due to its weak engine. The comments were made on Polychop's own Discord. I'm still hoping to see these fixes in Kiowa!

  34. Remembering the days where you had to DL drivers via modem from a BBS, nothing like www or such...and TM was reachable by phone from like 17:00 to 19:00h only, with a dude on the phone that sounded as enthusiastic as I did in my early 20's and my first, actually 2nd, TM gear, F16-TQS-Rudders . You said "one of my pots is going haywire"... and what did they send you ? - 4+ Pots - many knobs and switches...just in case - a complete wiring for the stick - rubber feet for all - springs for the rudders iirc as well - EPROMS !!!! to update your Firmware/bios Whenever there was a new Bios for the Hotas, you got an Eprom in Mail for free. You just had to replace it yourself, 5min work. Havent had to reach out to them ever since, but even if they only do half of that now, they are miles better than OT's experience with WW. I'd not consider WW for myself, there is no soul behind it, like with MFG or other small manufacturers with a real, tangible person behind it. Customer Service goes a long way, makes relationships tighter, builds trust and both benefit if done right. Just fixed the Home PC from the Senior Boss of a customer of mine, my client's Dad so to say. Took me 15min, fixed the obvious bugs, introduced him to adfree YT with Brave, which he almost lost tears about - what a relief, installed Teamviewer and when he asked me what he owed me I said "NOTHING !!", told him, your son always pays my service bills promptly, never questions my recommendations and has had no trouble with that... if you need help ..gimme a call, tell me this number and pwd and I can help you, directly. That's how you treat a customer at 9pm after installing their new IT all day long in their business, only had coffee and cigarettes...you smile...it's why I do it, help people and luckily they pay me too cause they see the mutual benefit of valuing each other. A dying pov. Reading the above from WW tell's a different story.

  44. DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum | Cold Start, Taxi, and Takeoff DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum | Cold Start, Taxi, and Takeoff In this DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum video, we’ll learn how to cold start the Fulcrum, taxi to the runway, and takeoff. If you have not already done so, you may wish to first review the MiG-29A Introduction video to acquaint yourself with the cockpit layout. In general, starting the MiG is a rather simple affair, particularly if you bypass the rather extensive tests and checks we’ll be reviewing. Let’s get started. COLD START We are sitting in the cockpit of a MiG-29A at Herat airfield in western Afghanistan. First, if the wheel chocks are not already in place, press forward slash (\)to bring up the radio menu, select Ground Crew, select Wheel Chocks…, and then Place. Next, go back to the Ground Crew radio options and select Ground Electric Power…, and then On. We’ll now have external electrical power supplied to the jet. To enable the electrical system, flip the ground battery supply switch on the right wall. To make it easier to see the instrument panel and lower, center post, mouse-click the base of the control stick to hide it. Check to make sure the volage meter indicates around 28 volts. Next, also on the right wall, lift the “Tomb” cover to enable all the electrical power switches. Also, at the back of the right console, set the Navigation, Gyro Standby, Gyro Main, and Aircraft Systems switches on from the bank of system power switches. On the clock, press the right button to start the stopwatch, which is the lower, smaller gauge in the clock. After 30 to 40 seconds, the gyros will have power, and we can begin the heading alignment. Mouse click and hold the Magnetic Heading Slave button below the HSI while pressing the Compensation Zero button on the Navigation Panel. If easier, you can press J for the Magnetic Heading Slave button and 9 for the Compensation Zero button at the same time. Confirm that the HSI needle aligns with your true heading, in this case 8-degrees. Back to the system power switches, set the Prepare switch to Operate (OPER). The FAST PREP, or fast preparation, light will illuminate once the inertial navigation system is aligned. In the meantime, press the Lamps Test button to ensure that all indicator lights illuminate around the cockpit. And then press the flashing Master Caution Light to reset it. On the True Air Speed indicator, confirm that the Mach needle is showing 0.2 and the TAS shows between 110 and 190 as indication of proper operation. From the Radar Altimeter, set the bug to 200 feet, and check that the Test button indicates about 50 feet. On the Combined Pressure Indicator, check that the Hydraulic needles are in the red, PAK region. Below the AEKRAN display, press the AEKRAN CALL button, and a short while later, you should see SELFTEST followed by AEKRAN READY, on the AEKRAN display. This can be either in English or Cyrillic based on your preference. Internal fuel with no centerline external fuel tank you should be about 2,700. On the Navigation Panel, confirm that the waypoint / aerodrome 1 button is illuminated. We’ll now test the standby gyro by setting the main gyro to standby and confirming that our HSI heading is the same. Once confirmed, we’ll re-enable the main gyro. On the HSI, set the course switch from automatic to manual, and then rotate the course knob to set our takeoff and landing course of 188-degrees. Then, set it back to automatic. On the back of the left console, confirm the oxygen valve is open and the mix is set to 100%. We’ll test the toe brakes now, you can press W, and expect to see around 8 kg/cm2. With the feet off the brakes, the value should be 0. Energize the radio equipment by enabling the radio switch on the systems power panel. We’ll now turn on the Recorder from the systems power panel. Along the forward section of the left wall is the canopy lever. Right mouse button click on it once to partially close it, and then a second time to fully close it. Look to the right wall now and note that the canopy sealed pin will recess when sealed. The canopy lock light will also extinguish. I already have the radio channels preset for the mission, so we’ll now open the radio message, contact ATC, and request engine start. From the start up panel on the right console, we’re going to do it the simplest way. Make sure that the Start Up Mode switch is set to the center, Both position. Next, press Right Alt and Home to move the left throttle from OFF to IDLE and then press Left Shift and Home to set the right throttle from OFF to IDLE. Now, just press the Ground Start button on the Start Up panel. From here, the aircraft will start both engines for you, starting with the right engine. As each engine starts, you’ll see the right and left engine start lights illuminating on the Telelight panel. As RPM rises for each engine, the hydraulic system light will extinguish, and hydraulic pressures will rise on the combined pressure indicator. As the RPM for each engine reaches 35%, its intake ramp will close, as indicated on the intake ramp position indicator. At the same time, the “gills” on top of the leading-edge extensions open. Once both engines are started, the engine start lights should both be off, the EGT at idle should be around 300-degrees, and RPMs between 58 and 72% We’ll now contact the ground crew again and ask them to disconnect ground electrical power and the onboard generator is supplying all the juice we need. With both engines up and running, we’ll now run through a few post-start procedures. I’ll also make the control stick visible again by clicking on its base. First, using the trim hat on the stick, set the pitch trim all the way forward and then all the way aft and check stick travel. Once complete, trim to center until the STAB TRIM NEUTAL light illuminates. Next, do the same thing with the trim hat left and right to test aileron trim. Once complete, enter aileron trim until the AIL TRIM NEUTRAL light appears. Last, using the rudder trim switch at the bottom of the left quarter panel, set it to the maximum left and right and then center until the RUD TRIM NEUTRAL light illuminates. From the system power switches, enable the Automatic Flight Control System, or AFCS, switch. This will initiate a self-test and the DAMPER light on the autopilot panel will flash. Once the BIT is complete, the DAMPER OFF extinguishes, the DAMPER light illuminates on the Telelight panel, and the DAMPER green button stops flashing and is steady. We’ll now do a quick Automatic Direction Finding, or ADF, check by setting the ADF/RSBN switch to ADF on the Navigation panel. Then, set the UHF/VHF radio panel on the left console to ADF mode. We’ll then hear the inner ADF beacon code. We’ll also see the yellow needle on the HSI align with the selected ADF beacon. With that check done, set the radio back to non-ADF mode and the navigation panel back to RSBN. Enable power to the SPO-15 radar warning receiver by selecting the RWR power button. Let’s run a self-test by first holding the Test switch to the right in the AUTO position. Upon doing so, the function light, off the nose of the aircraft symbol, will extinguish but all the other lights will illuminate. After a few seconds, the function light will illuminate, and you can release the switch. You can also repeatedly move the switch to the right to manually test the azimuth indications. The knob allows you to adjust the panel’s brightness. From the Flaps panel, set the flaps to the takeoff, left button. Note that although the left and center flaps buttons are marked as down, they are different. Left is for takeoff, and the center is for landing, they have different scheduling, particularly for the leading-edge slats. Moving to the back of the right console again, we’ll enable the Weapons and Armament Control System, or ACS, switches. Check that the neutral stabilator, aileron, and rudder lights are all lit on the Telelight panel and press the AEKRAN call button until all messages are cleared. Bring up the radio menu again and contact the ground crew to remove the wheel chocks and then ATC to request taxi to runway. TAXI Time to taxi to the runway. We’ll first test the toe brakes by pressing W and advancing the throttles to about 80% RPM. When ready to roll, release the toe brakes and bring the throttles back before getting too fast. Once at the hold short, turn on the pitot heat, arm the ejection seat, contact ATC again, and request takeoff. Once cleared, enter the runway and align yourself down the centerline takeoff course. TAKEOFF Takeoffs and generally performed at military power, but afterburner should be used if the aircraft is heavy loaded like today. The real MiG-29A has a latch that must be lifted to move the throttles in and out of afterburner. This can be done automatically or based on an input as selected from the MiG-29A Special Tab Throttle Auto Latch option. When checked, you can move the throttle in and out of afterburner without having to activate the latch with the 0 key. Ensure that the flaps are set to the takeoff position, left-most flap button, and confirm with the flaps, slats, and gear indication. Wipe the controls and check that stab, aileron, and rudder trim is neutral on the Telelight panel one more time. Confirm your takeoff and landing course on the HSI, the altimeter is zeroed out, and the FEEL UNIT TAKEOFF-LANDING lamp is lit. It’s a sunny day, so let’s lower the visor. Start the stopwatch with a click of the right clock button. While standing on the brakes, gradually run up the throttles to military power as the nose strut compresses. Confirm that the EGT gauges are in the yellow region and that there is no more than a 4% RPM difference between the engines. Release the brakes and engage afterburner. Use gentle rudder inputs to track down the center of the runway. At 230 to 250 kph, apply back stick with 8 to 10 degrees of pitch, or keep the horizon right above the IRST sensor as a rule of thumb. Maintain this climb angle and retract the landing gear at 10 to 15 meters of altitude. Confirm that the landing gear is stowed on the flaps, slaps and landing gear indicator and that the hydraulic pressure is normal on the combined pressure gauge. At 100 meters, raise the flaps by pressing the right flaps button. Once you’ve reached 500 kph, adjust throttles to 83 to 85% for an efficient climb rate of 5 to 7 meters per second. … and that is how you cold start, taxi, and take off in a MiG-29A Fulcrum. Before I leave you, a common question we got from the previous Introduction video was the ability to display either Cyrillic or English cockpits. We’ve made both an option. From the MiG-29A Special Tab, you can select ENG or the default Cyrillic from the Customize Cockpit option. This determines the language of the cockpit. To determine the language of the avionics systems like the HUD and AEKRAN, go to the Gameplay tab and select either English or the Native Cyrillic from the Avionics Language option. I hope you enjoyed this video, and I’ll see you next time. Thanks. NOTE: This video was created with a pre-release version, and elements will likely change at release and after.
