  1. I think it was to improve roll-rate. I can't think of any other flight dynamics benefit. The induced drag is smaller with rounded wingtips if I'm not mistaken (that's why the spit has them in the first place I guess). But I might be completely mistaken - that's out of my league to be honest.
  2. It's a game (with different shortcomings) either way. That's a pointless discussion. SP has its values, MP does too. (E.g. droping warheads on foreheads is not the only part of military aviation, I would dare to say it is the smallest. So if your interest is aviation - flying a particular aircraft in the first place - SP pretty much does the trick. (Personally I would love to see a proper ATC for that reason, but that's beside the point) I don't want to, but just food for thought: There several different ways to do muliplayer. Public servers (PvP OR PvE), private servers or even closed groups from 2 people upwards. How it goes depends pretty much on the people and what you're trying to achieve
  3. Yep, that's it. Mirrors and cockpit displays (like TV or Tads e.g) fall into the same category in that they need an additional render viewport (and therefore reduce fps)
  4. Oh ffs, the doomsayers are on the run again. Please, if you don't like DCS or can't wait for it to fail - Just. Walk. Away. But please stop trying to convince everybody else that it is flawed or doomed. When you have specific things to criticise, by all means, go ahead, idealy provide evidence and suggest solutions - but this passive aggressive dramatization, please no!
  5. I think it is "Resolution of Displayes" or something like that, that you can switch between 512 and 1024....
  6. Awesome!
  7. Thank you for the fleshed out answer. That was pretty much what I assumed. It doesn’t matter. I’m still absolutely hyped for the Modul. Any chance for new(er) info on a release date?
  8. Ahhhh, my eyes.
  9. btw, seeing the big radar nose in the thumbnail.... I assume the C-130 has a weather radar? If so, will it work in the DCS environment? Probably no....or?
  10. Switchology heaven!

    Little rant

    You're right. So is Sirrah.
  12. Still, a real RIO would probably call that out, since this is is closely related to his most important job anyways (maintain situational awareness beyond visual range). Also communication is prime. I think OP doesn't ask for that because it is needed, but because it would be immersive.
  13. Imagine the wife/girlfriend, who is already highly sceptical of this expensive af nerd hobby, walking in on you being tossed around by your motion platform....
  14. Oh, I absolutely get that prices are different relative to income in some countries. Still, if one does't have the means to use DCS, that's (hard as it is) an individual problem. Some people seem to expect ED to cater to the least common denominator, and that doesnt sit well with me. Again - oh the irony!
  15. That’s actually a problem of the none stereoscopic camera. With two eyes you can look further into the edges than the camera can with its single viewpoint. In VR it’s much better. I guess next to different implementations, it is just a matter of how much excess real estate a given HUD offers. In the A10 it is very little….
  16. It feels like groundhog day again…. No, absolutely frickin’ no! I’m sick and tired of subscription models creeping in on every aspect of life - and I think I’m not alone with that. So my heartfelt THANK YOU to ED, who fortunately rejected the idea every time it comes up!
  17. There is undeniably a fps-hit when using mirrors in DCS. Maybe you don't notice it in VR because you are over the treshold of fixed fps with your HMD with and without mirrors. It can become a problem when a user JUST reaches the needed fps without mirrors. Anyways. The mirror-issue in DCS is twofold... - the performance hit (which is probably unavoidable) - the visual implementation (on and off), which is hit and miss across all modules (ED and third party). In VR this is even more noticeable. I prefer Mirrors off and I appreciate it very much when the "off" graphics still looks good and are not just a black hole. (foldable mirrors are also neat).
  18. Next to those, I can imagine a couple of other variables in the telemetry that could be used to identify such an event. They should be available in MP (accel e.g.). Shouldn't be hard to figure out how to detect a "kill" event by proxy if neccessary. With reasonable accuracy. VPforce did it for the Rhino (The stick used to jolt forward when hitting the ground - now it doesn't anymore). Maybe they could ask him for advise.
  19. The latter. It has the advantage of working consistently the same over all helicopter modules. (Including Mods). I haven't noticed any downsides yet.
  20. There are some elementary things to understand. a) you will Always be limited by something. No matter how potent your hardware. b) wether it is your GPU or CPU at any given time is circumstantial. It depends on scenario and settings. c) VR puts much more strain (relative) on the CPU than 2D d) if you haven any fps-limit enabled, it can muddy the waters. Depending on which kind of fps-limiter you use (in game or external) it will be enforced either by the CPU or the GPU, and will be reported as the limiting factor accordingly. E.g. the default in-game fps limit is set to 180 if I’m not mistaken. If your GPU AND CPU could deliver more frames, it would be reported as CPU limited. If you would on the other hand enforce a lower limit, say 120 fps via the nvidia driver, it would be reported as GPU limited.
  21. Then just start from step one. Download the installer from the Homepage and install fresh. When you log in with your credentials, all your bought modules become available. Unfortunately you have to set up everything again (controls, graphics etc.) p.s. that is for stand alone of course. Steam is Steam. (I would recommend Stand Alone though)
  22. Was DCS installed on the C:\-Drive (Windows System Drive)? If not, make a Backup from your Savegames-Folder and just install a fresh DCS from the Installer on the homepage/downloads on your new drive. With the old Savegames-folder in place, DCS will be the same as always,m once all you paid modules are loaded.
  23. I fly modules in chunks usually. As of late mostly Corsair and Phantom, Mirage F1 also gets a lot of hours, but I think the overall most hours (not current necessarily) I have in the Mi-8.
