The point I was trying to make is, that I won't go comparing and complaining if some valleys and rivers are missing for the sake of practicality and if there are modern nav aids, that I can choose to not use, I won't be bothered. More options - great.

I said wish, not need. Caucasus is an awesome map. My second in line after Syria actually. And with user made texture updates it still holds reasonable well. But it is showing its age. Germany Map is awesome. And I'm more than happy with it. Still we all have our pet desires, no? Mine is Vietnam Map + Intruder. Both in the highest possible fidelity.

New CPU and mobo bootup issue I have?
Hiob replied to The_Nephilim's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think your PSU is faulty or underspecced. When the Computer was off, all capacitors are depleted and everything draws a lot of current (rel.) momentarily after switch on, which trips the PSU. The second time around the capacitors are (partly) loaded and the current draw is reduced which lifts it over the edge. That would be my guess of what is happening here. -
Depends on the Airframe I'd say. Some are so touchy that they basically tumble over when looking at the pedals (looking at you, Mirage F1), others are waaay more forgiving. At least in DCS (obviously I have no idea how they compare to RL). But what kind of fell under the table it that the NATOPS seem to mention reduced gain. We have no idea how much gain there actually is available). They don't seem to be worried about the Hornet.

Same goes for any kind of monitoring software (hwinfo, hwmonitor, aquasuit etc.) the more queries are pulled the more interrupts are produced. I had a wonderful custom build sensor suit in aquasuit running (my second hobby is watercooling) until I noticed how incredible bad that was for fluid game graphics. Now I tend to religiously reduce processes on my system. Since then I'm basically free from stuttering (unless I run in real performance boundaries).

In the end, it's a G A M E and therefore needs to be accessable for as many players as possible. There are tons of things that aren't "perfect" in regards to realism. I don't mind all kinds of nav aids. The more options the better. I can always choose to ignore them. (Maybe there can be or already is an option in the ME to disable them from case to case). I'm just happy we get a PROPER green map. Only thing left to wish for is 'Nam. But Ugra needs a new project soon(tm) - so....who knows.....

Well, if anything, we learn here, that being a former Pilot doesn't necessarily qualify you in anything other than the Airframe you were actually trained on and that RTFM applies as always.....

Short answer: No. The basic install is checked with every update anyway (and ou can always do a repair that would functionally equal a complete fresh install). Only exception from that is the savegames folder that contains all the configuration and setup that MAY be affected by a hardware change. But I would only touch that if any problems become apparent. (If necessary, just rename it to _old and let DCS build a new one)

It's funny, I can enjoy the Kiowa without even thinking about the visuals, let alone outside visuals. There are VERY beloved modules of mine (Mi-8) that REALLY start showing their age and are still enjoyable. The Kiowa is leaps ahead of those. Maybe focus less on nitpicking on pixels and start enjoy flying more? Take inspiration from the tons of youtube videos of people having a blast with the Kiowa and not even mention visuals once. You know, I wouldn't even have responded to this post if it wasn't for the overly dramatic choice of words. "Hopeless", really?

Well, all the tweaks are already mentioned, so I can't add to that. But to answer the last question above. VR is demanding and sensitive to any adverse settings, so tweaking is a must. That is not unique to DCS. However, I have the same GPU, RAM and VR HMD as you (a different CPU though) and I can attest that DCS can run butter smooth with this hardware.

The same amount that don't seem to have ANY experience in business/legal practices and still feel comfortable throwing around suggestions and accusations..... I get that this thread is kept alive to channel the emotional fallout that comes with the matter, but I wonder if it does more harm than good.....

Fps drops from around 120 to 30 every 10 seconds or so
Hiob replied to PatientSquire27's topic in Game Performance Bugs
may very well be, but there has to be something triggering it, because it obviously doesn’t affect all players. -

Last resort here from my part. There has been a lot of talk of crappy Nvidia drivers lately. I think the last stable one is from last year. Can’t give you the exact version number, but you‘ll find it one Youtube. -
@Aapje There is no underdog bonus in legal contracts. People need to stop romantacising the matter.

Hiob replied to PatientSquire27's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Well most of what I suggested is generally aimed at smooth frametimes and regular (micro-) stuttering. As mentioned earlier (iirc) the intermittent large fps-drops point to some external problems like (e.g.) core parking or I/O-problems (read/write or cache-problems). Another issue I could imagine is problems with scripts. I lost track - did you already checked your export.lua? Maybe delete/rename it for testing. -
edit: sorry @MAXsenna, didn't mean to speak for you. You were faster than I..... never mind....

That there is no noticeable improvement by disabling power service, depending if and what kind of issues you had, I absolutely believe. It is very unlikely though that it would have any negative impact. A process that doesn’t exist can’t cause latency. edit: the purpose of this process is to suspend resources and reduce power consumption. If it is disabled everything just runs unhindered. -

Not 100% sure tbh. Power service is on an OS-level, C-states is on microcode (CPU-) level I would guess. So for the sake of latency power service has a greater impact I would assume. -

Either way. Depends on you how you set it. But I leave it disabled always on all of my machines. Work and home. -

The problem - generally - with the power service is, that it does frequent interrupts to poll different processes for their state to determine the resource needs (don’t nail me on the phrasing, but you get the picture). Changing the powerplan to ultimate does change what happens with the information but doesn’t change the polling (in fact in increases the interrupts). I hope that makes sense. Difficult matter to explain in non native language. There are good videos on youtube on the matter. Search for topics related to latency or latencyMon. This Video, even though it is only indirectly linked to the topic, covers some interesting topics. It’s a very interesting piece for people that are concerned with stutters/latency and performance in general:
