2.9 - Object Camera with Position Inheritance [RSHFT+RCTRL+F2]
Mistermann replied to Mistermann's topic in DCS 2.9
Thanks @Rudel_chw, I'll give it a shot when I'm back at the DCS computer. EDIT: Worked exactly like you predicted. I can now bind that command to a HOTAS. You, sir, are awesome! Thanks for helping out a fellow DCS fanatic. -
2.9 - Object Camera with Position Inheritance [RSHFT+RCTRL+F2]
Mistermann replied to Mistermann's topic in DCS 2.9
Thanks. I haven't used VA in quite some time, but I suspect you bound the keyboard combinations to your VA command. I am asking how I can assign new HOTAS bindings to this command. For some reason the DCS configuration isn't allowing that. Its difficult to see in the image I posted above, but the cells underneath my HOTAS peripheral devices is a different color indicating those cells are locked from being edited. Taking a shot in the dark here - hey, @Rudel_chw, any ideas? -
2.9 - Object Camera with Position Inheritance [RSHFT+RCTRL+F2]
Mistermann replied to Mistermann's topic in DCS 2.9
@Flappie and/or @BIGNEWY, I suspect I posted this in a bad place. Maybe it gets more traction in the videos and screenshots sub forum? I don't want to cross post. Can you move or recommend a better home for this topic? -
Awesome! Thanks @cfrag

Not sure where to post this. Mods, please move accordingly. The update to 2.9 introduced 2 new "go pro" cameras called Object Local Camera [RCTRL+F2] and Object Camera with Position Inheritance [RSHFT+RCTRL+F2] How do I bind these cameras to my HOTAS? I fly in VR and don't use the keyboard at all. When I try and use the controller setup, the system doesn't allow me to bind anything but the keyboard to these cameras. Can someone please point me to the proper way (lua files?) to enable binding of these cameras to something other than the keyboard. Thanks!

In my experience, sound changes require a DCS shutdown before being recognized. Almost like the settings are cached and read at program load. Not saying that's the problem, BTW

I went and did a Mic test and my system crashed as well. However after several hours of testing over the past 2 days, I have discovered a workaround - at least for me. Not super satisfying, but something that at least allows me to play with my buddies and not requiring skype or some other VOIP solution. I believe the problem comes from DCS' inability to handle multiple audio devices properly. VOIP works for most (my fling buddies don't have this issue and we have similar setups), but others like myself have no ability to hear the transmissions. BTW, when I test DCS without my VR headset turned on, VOIP works just fine and the mic test does not crash DCS. My workaround I ended up driving the "headset" sounds in game to a different output (shut down and restart DCS when making these changes). My original settings had all game sounds driven to my default devices. In my case, that's my PIMAX VR headset. [BTW: This is my preferred setup as all sounds come through my headset directly into my ears] Here's the configuration change I made that temporarily solved this challenge for me. By forcing DCS to use a different audio output for headphones than the main audio out, I was able to use the PIMAX and hear VOIP. This is less than an ideal workaround because I now only hear radio calls, betty warnings, RWR notifications, etc. outside of my headset. This means I have to turn UP those sounds so I can hear them over the sounds coming directly into my ears through the PIMAX headset. I may try and reverse those settings above to see if Headset sounds can come through the PIMAX and game sounds through the desktop speakers so the most important sounds are most prominent. Still ... the issue here isn't ALL headphone sounds are not coming through the PIMAX, just the VOIP transmissions are absent. This sounds like a tough bug to tackle (no pun intended). Hopefully ED's testers can locate and address relatively soon. @BIGNEWY - this is starting to feel like this belongs in a different bug thread on its own. I am happy to post this elsewhere if that's preferred.

Okay. So I am brand new to this dedicated server business and want to host several servers for my squadron. I installed the OB Dedicated server and it is running perfectly. What I don't understand is how to add a second, third, etc. So far, I am tracking with what Maverick said. Install and don't change anything after the install. CHECK. Here's where I get confused. The shortcut to start the server was created in the installation. It calls "DCS_server.exe" Are you saying that I need to copy that and create one for every server I want using the command line option -w DCS.server1 where the name after the switch is the name of the server? Where do I establish the ports for these servers? Is there a separate folder structure under the saved games for each -w server I start? Sorry for the complete newb questions. If there's a guide for how to do this please point me in that direction. Thank you. EDIT: Found this resource that helped me out tremendously. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a9QKMhSPMF-gS4rAH-mWc45ziD1mooleQGQnwa9JoDs/edit?pli=1

Recommended spec for dedicated server?
Mistermann replied to Lace's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
As a test, I installed an OB dedicated server on an old Dell Ryzen 5 2500U with 8GB RAM (similar to this one - https://a.co/d/bgOe3hW but mine has a crummy non SSD spinner drive). I did it just to see if it could be done and what the experience might be for my flying buddies. To my surprise, we could host training missions (like Bankler's Case I Recovery mission) just fine. There's only 3 of us that use it, so its not getting stressed with traffic. I suspect some of the dedicated MP persistent campaigns (like those from @Surrexen) would crush it, however. -
I am the guy that cannot hear the transmissions, but am heard by others. I recorded the flight from last night that Devil referred to above. @Flappie, hopefully this helps diagnose the challenge I am having. I am happy to provide system logs, details, etc. We were on our dedicated server when this happened, but it also happens when one of us hosts a MP mission from our local machine as well. This feels like something with my DCS machine. Note the video was recorded in game using VR so head movement might be distracting to some.

Mistermann replied to Pikey's topic in User Created Missions General
You can create zones with as many nodes as you want using a little scripting. I learned this by inspecting @Sedlo's Bold Cheetah Hornet Campaign (https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3326679/). In the first mission, he uses a script to determine when the player "UZI 11" is inside a zone defined by the waypoints for an armor group (never activated) called "KASAB POLY". Here's the code if you're interested: mist.flagFunc.units_in_polygon{ units={'UZI 11'}, zone=mist.getGroupPoints('KASAB POLY'), flag=9502, interval=10, } The script uses MIST. Specifically these two routines: https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/MIST_units_in_polygon https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/MIST_getGroupPoints If you want to see this within the ME, you can find it in the first mission of Bold Cheetah. -

That's what I was expecting you to say. I can tell you as much as we've enjoyed it, we'll do the same. Well, that's because you're good at it! As a part-time mission creator myself, I completely understand the time investments required for this type of endeavor. Just had an absolute blast with Mission 16 (Operation Highway Pullover) - absolute blast. So much so that I almost ran out of fuel! I was down to 190lbs when I caught the basket on the way back to the boat! So much fun!!

Bold Cheetah - A 13 Mission DCS F/A-18 Campaign by Sedlo
Mistermann replied to Sedlo's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I just had the same thing happen to me. I was able to take out the Hawk and head back to the boat. Maybe I missed a WP along the way, IDK. I got within 20mi of the boat expecting to be told to change the radio to Marshall - that never happened. I switched the right radio to M and contacted the boat and landed after heading back out to CaseIII marshal stack. Landed and got a 50 - Draw. I knew changing the radio myself wasn't the right thing to do, but at the same time, I didn't know where/when the trigger might fire. Not a big deal, I'll move onto the next mission. Having a blast, Sedlo!- 419 replies

DCS cameras, views and video recording
Mistermann replied to Bucic's topic in Screenshots and Videos
I come here from time to time whenever I see changes to this topic. Since I'm not an avid follower, I may have missed something over the past 10 years and 12 pages. Is there a central source of truth for all DCS camera controls somewhere? I have tried several suggestions made in this thread with no luck at all. I've seen reddit threads suggesting specific keystrokes that also don't work. So, for clarity to anyone looking for interesting camera angles (especially when new ones get introduced), is there a wiki or repository somewhere that's maintained with all working camera angles and corresponding keystroke commands? Thanks! -
What an accomplishment! Congratulations on reaching your goal of 24 missions. My guys and I are onto Mission 16. We have absolutely enjoyed your creation and will undoubtedly replay at some point in the future. You have a real knack for mission creating, Jenson. The amount of activity going on in this campaign is something that really brings it to life. Looking at the download counts, it appears that about 500 people/groups have made it midway through the campaign. At first glance, I find that unfortunate. Not sure what that tells me other than there's a whole bunch of hornet pilots missing out. A HUGE thanks from me and my group!! I can only imagine the amount of time/effort you spent creating this incredible experience. Its bittersweet thinking we only have 9 more missions left before we're done. I have a list of things I've captured over the first 15 missions. This list is simply a bunch of observations/notes that I captured so I could possibly create content like this for my guys in the future. Much like you've done for your group. I am happy to get additional feedback from my group and post. I suspect you'll want it before we complete 9 more missions as we tend to average one mission per week. FWIW all three of your observations are on my list as well. Are you revisiting the campaign because your squadron wants to replay it? Just wondering out loud ... would they prefer a brand new setting (maybe Syria ) where you create a new campaign with the general feedback from Hormuz? I know, that's a REAL commitment to mission creation and I'm just one random internet jet jockey out here suggesting what you do with your free time! Just know there are others out here that enjoy your creation. Heck, maybe some new story on the PG map that allows you to leverage existing assets could also be an option. Regardless, I hope this comes across positively and as encouragement from strangers that there's an appetite for what you create. Thanks again!

Meant to thank @Cepheus76 earlier. Appreciate the responses from both you and @Sedlo. Just finished M5 and heard that sound again -- this time with much less excitement and fear that it was an Iranian Tomcat on my six!- 419 replies

So whenever a flight goes down and pilot ejects, this sound triggers? As long as I'm monitoring guard, I'll hear it. Good to know. I will keep this in mind for future missions.- 419 replies

Bold Cheetah - A 13 Mission DCS F/A-18 Campaign by Sedlo
Mistermann replied to Sedlo's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Hey Sedlo - or anyone else that might know the answer here. What is the sound ELT.OGG representing? I about jumped out of my skin when I first heard it. I've now encountered it an a couple of missions and don't know what its telling me. From the sound of it, it seems pretty important. Also ... I consider myself an intermediate ME guy. I like to build missions for my MP flying buddies. I think of them as "campaigns for MP" and try to make them engaging. Most of them never see the forum light of day. Anyway, looking through the triggers to see where this sound was triggered, humbled me greatly. I gave up looking and came here for the answer. Thanks! Attached is the sound. ELT.ogg- 419 replies

Bold Cheetah - A 13 Mission DCS F/A-18 Campaign by Sedlo
Mistermann replied to Sedlo's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Sedlo - Just wanted to pop in and say Thank You for this campaign. I am just 2 missions in. Very impressed by your work and attention to detail. I really like how you force the player through radio channel changes that trigger events. I also have to say thanks for leaving 9-Line details on screen a bit longer for us VR players! Also, your voiceover content is top notch and goes beyond just voice actors into post production editing (static, pops, low power, etc.). As others have said, this rivals any campaign I've purchased. Anyone who flies the Hornet should consider this "must play" content. Looking forward to experiencing 11 more missions. Thanks!- 419 replies

@Taz1004 - I am blown away. Thank you for this! Not sure how you EVER figured out how/where to customize these files. You, sir, are a huge asset to this community. Thank you! I had given up hope for a smooth flying experience using NVGs because I couldn't see the instruments/MFDs. I would pop them on when I needed to see outside the cockpit and turn off when looking inside. A massive PITA. Your mod frees me from doing the NVG dance. What a gift! Images of before and after for anyone wondering (I know there's images in the OP, but we're now beyond those pages so hopefully this helps someone). Note: I fly exclusively in VR (Pimax 8kx). I captured the VR experience above using OBS to record the output. OBS only captures one eye and shows the black outline beyond the monocle. In the HMD, there is no monocle edge and the entire view goes green in both eyes (which I am fine with).

acknowledged Aircraft markings after latest uppdate.
Mistermann replied to Jsood's topic in Bugs and Problems
Indeed. I have "fixed" a couple of custom liveries and posted fixes for them in comments so others can do the same. I suppose its the cost of progress. However, what I find a bit strange is the default liveries are still messed up. Hopefully this next OB update contains these fixes. -
Wow, that's quite a find, @AndyB. Was that documented somewhere you can link? Just wondering what custom args 1-7 might control.
