  1. I really don't see this as an "issue". I mean, the carrier and her escorts are tens of thousands of tons of ship plowing through the water and it's not like you can expect to lean forward to tap the uber dirver on the shoulder and tell him to, "whip a uey here mate, I need to stop at the liquer store on the way over to the party!" As a mission builder you need to give that drunken skipper a little help with a bunch of waypoints scribing an arc for the group to follow if you want him to change course 180 degrees.
  2. I've done some testing and found some interesting anomalies (sp?). First of all, when changing the band on the MPRS in this mission, it showed up just exactly as it should but the really weird thing is, the straight -135 was working normally with the Y band, whereas before it wasn't. Both tankers in the ME were set to X and they worked normally. I next fired up my server with the original mission I had run last night (with both tankers set to the Y band) and they would not give any distance or time info BUT.....after changing my Tacan channel from the Y to X band in game, they both worked normally!! Just to be clear, this practice of using the Y band for tankers, specifically channels 17, 18 and 19, has been in place for quite some time so whatever is going on here is a very recent development. Another squad mate of mine is reporting similar experiences with some of his missions. I tried one made on the Caucus map and found the same issue. This time, I noticed the same symtom, a bearing and ID but non distance or time so I just switched my Tacan band in the UFC to X and the info came up just like it should. VERY odd. :doh:
  3. I normally assign the Y band to all of the tankers in my missions just to avoid confusion. I am going to do some more testing on other maps to see if this is DCS wide or just specific to the PF map or if it is just my own clumsy mission making causing the problem. :doh:
  4. Has anybody noticed this recently? I have a KC-135 and a KC-135MPRS set up in a mission on the PG map and all I am receiving is a bearing and their identifier. I will try to attach the mission down below. In Under the Wire.miz

  7. I couldn't agree more with this request. I have made it myself in here before. Although it is correct that waves are , for the most part, connected to wind velocity, it is more complicated than that. Current direction and wind direction are also huge factors in the generation of waves. But more than anything, I believe that the sea state is not directly connected to wind as we see it in DCS. It would be nice to be able to give the boat a little bit more heave than we see in the sim. Swells are also not necessarily connected to the wind that you are experiencing around the boat. The swells are generated a long way away and can be experienced with no wind at all. This is a great request for the ME in my humble opinion. :thumbup:
  8. I'm not questioning your integrity Wulf, it's just that I have never ever heard or read about an F4U of any navy operating over the beaches of Normandy. I'd love to see a reference to them actually doing that. To my knowledge, the only ETO action the Corsairs ever participated in was up in Norway during the attacks on the Tirpitz, as you mentioned. I don't think it would be too difficult to do though. Vought just removed the wingtip to accomodate the lower clearance of the RN carrier hanger decks and nothing else was changed. This would be much like the LF Spit we have now. I'd love to see M3 do it. It will only be a short time before somebody comes out with a skin for the Essex class carrier that will make it resemble A RN carrier, or use the excellent mod for the Hermes. :thumbup:
  9. If ED ever figures out how to allow for seaplanes to operate, then hopefully they will be able to go one step further and make it so an amphibian can operate in DCS World. They've done it for vehicles already, how hard would it be to do it for aircraft?? The PBY flew in every single theater during WWII, from the very beginning until the very end. I can't think of a more iconic example of a seaplane/amphibian for DCS.

Without question, the Martin Mars or better yet, the Martin Mariner, would be an awesome addition to the DCS World Pacific Theater however, in my humble opinion, the PBY-5A Catalina would be the best possible choice. It flew in every single theater throughout the war and performed as a patrol bomber, torpedo bomber, search and rescue and liason aircraft. But the best feature that I think would be so exciting for us in DCS World, would be that it is amphibious. If ED or a third party could figure out how to make that work, I have no doubt that it would be a massive seller!! :pilotfly:

  14. Cunctator, I couldn't agree more! :thumbup: The Solomons campaign lasted from the invasion of Guadalcanal to the securing of Bouganville. Corsairs were involved in that from '43 on to the end. There are lots of possibilities for mission builders to recreate battles or just use it as a generic island chain with the Essex class carrier or not, as they see fit. To me the Iwo Jima map makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! A much better choice would be Okinawa or maybe Guam with all of the associated possibilities you mention. Iwo is just too small and the Corsairs had relatively little to do with that campaign. Captain Orso, I believe that you are exactly correct in your comments. ED would be the likely "instigator" of a proper WWII Pacific theater of operations and could easily herd the cats in a single direction if they so choose. I believe that if the Hornet and Tomcat are any indication, with a little nod in the direction of the Harrier, they would realize how popular shipboard operations are within the DCS World community. After the aircraft has been "mastered" and the folks have sussed out how to deliver all their killer ordinance, the remaining challenge of getting back to the boat and aboard without damage or too much embarrassment is icing on the cake! :thumbup: Here's hoping!:pilotfly:
  15. Are you using a HOTAS? If so, do you have any switches mapped for the fuel transfer switches on the left console? If so, do you have that box in the game UI that says something like, "synchronize HOTAS on start up"? If so, have you checked those switches on your HOTAS??

With M3 planning to release an Essex class for their F4U-1D, I would be really happy to pay for a WWII Pacific Assets pack that included a CVE, a DD, CA, BB and some amphibious assault ships like an LSD maybe. It would really be nice if they would release more than one of each type so you wouldn't end up with a bunch of the same ship names out there. I don't see that as being a terribly hard thing to accomplish. If so, enlighten me please.
  18. Is M3 planning to make an angled deck Essex class carrier? I seem to recall reading about this some time ago but I am afraid that I may be confusing this with the proposed Essex class coming from the Community A-4 project. I really hope not!!

  22. One thing that is sorely needed for both ETO and PTO are some ship models from that period. When Magnitude releases its Corsair and Essex class carrier, it is going to look pretty funky sailing around all by itself, or with modern day DD's and CA's with their weapons on hold.
  23. I could be wrong about this but I do be liege that if you select the NVG position on the switch over on the right hand consol, that light is disabled. The switch I am referring to is a 3 position sw on the outboard side of the RH consol, slightly forward of the canopy switch.
