  1. Developing on this. This issue presents for whoever is on the controls, either front or back. And not for the pilot not on the controls.
  2. Trim ball whilst in a hover or on the ground will show the tilt angle of the helicopter. So if you have the pedals in the centre you will be inputting a slight amount of nose left tail right. Which will cause a slight rolling moment about the tail rotor. I suspect this is what you are seeing. Unless its something else like having the cyclic over to one side.
  3. So all your experience of helicopters is from RC helicopters? And you claim of 'mastery' is purely a self assessment? There are some interestingly egregious points made in your video, I wonder where you learnt such things. For example, I'm curious how 12-15ft is considered out of ground effect. You appear to have some kind of opinion about automated systems, but I can't imagine where its coming from. I mean are you also advocating that pilots turn off the FADEC and control the engines manually to get a better 'feel'? Or is this more about you not understanding how the systems work and thus not wanting to fly with them? I don't intend to pick a fight, and I apologise if its come across that way. But you must understand how detrimental it can be to so confidently spew gouge that isn't solid.
  4. Interesting thing I recently found out about autorotation in DCS. I think 99% of the problems people are having are because the collective SAS is trying to pull pitch when you start sinking. So even though your physical control is bottomed out, the SAS will actually be pulling some 15-20% of the collective. Its poor technique but if you disengage the FMC (or just the collective channel if you fancy) you can actually get something approaching a controllable auto. Even so far as being able to overspeed the rotor (something impossible with the SAS still engaged).
  5. So what's the latest on using exported displays at night? There was a brief time when using the custom exports as in the first post here would allow you to control the video on the in cockpit displays independently of the exports, so you could turn them way down and still use the exports. But now it seems that using the custom exports as in this thread will just make the video feed on the exports disappear. So I'm stuck, are we just expected to not fly this at night or something?

  7. Just looking through some tapes showing apache HDU symbology. And I notice that the acceleration cue shown in these videos moves around a lot more than the one we have in DCS. I would conclude that the cue in the apaches that these videos are taken from represents a smaller range of accelerations before becoming saturated, so that a small acceleration will appear as a larger offset compared to the apache we have in DCS. Now the issue is that I don't have any tapes from a mid 2000s block 2, but I imagine an SME would be able to confirm whether the sensitivity of the cue is something that was changed with the upgrades.
  8. They come under Symbology Select Switch both forward aft and depress.
  9. Because if the door isn't detected to be closed then the aircraft thinks it's open. And if the door is open then it's in the way and will affect weapon separation.

  11. Just to point out, pressing any of the keys on that page doesn't sync. So you can turn the SCAS off in one cockpit and not the other for example.
  12. That's why you need to match your speed to the situation. Imagine you were a foot soldier worried about coming upon the enemy in the woods. Are you going to sprint full charge through the foliage and hope you can react in time, or are you going to go slow and carefully. Additionally, get a wingman. Having a second aircraft means you can start providing mutual support to each other (ie looking out for threats from astern) and you can also start employing some high threat movement techniques, ie bounding overwatch (one aircraft stationary and alert whilst the other moves forwards)

  14. The issue is demonstrated here, it is the action of slewing before depressing the TDC that causes the drift. As for evidence, none is required as this is not an 'inaccuracy' report. It is a straight up bug report, a failure in the games code.
  15. Is there an intent to develop the ability for the latter to work? So you could be the pilot, switch to CPG and have a friend join the pilot seat?
  16. I guess at least if it's cycling you can look at it and say 'yeah that's broken'. But if it was just static 'no ice' you might believe it.
  17. Sorry what issues are we talking about now? Hovering is used for more than just firing, so issues with hovering can't be fixed by just doing running fire instead.
  18. Moving forward would be a more stable firing position. But I think the decision to hover or not should be driven by tactical thinking and not just 'hovering is hard'.
  19. Remember that the neutral position for the pedals has been corrected. So that even with as you say 'no input', the tail rotor is still pushing you to the right. What was shown in the video above looks like a very reasonable response to a pilot not controlling the aircraft.
  20. Because sometimes you don't have power for OGE hover. So you need forward airspeed. And there will be an airspeed where you have enough forward to climb but not so much forward that you lose climb angle.

  22. Tail rotor flat pitch is slightly to the right of neutral pedal, this is correct. The yawing issue is likely due to EDs modelling of tail rotor VRS, there has been a lot of SME feedback on this so I'm expecting a fix shortly.
  23. Buffet is one thing, having a switch with a 200db action is another... Feedback on Airframe performance exists in many modules, including Apache. Think about how you can hear the rotor speed, you can tell what the blade AOA based on the noise the rotor makes. Etc. What isn't seen other than tomcat is the 'tactile' switches as you put it. Something that is completely ridiculous to anyone using an actual switch instead of button jabbing with the mouse.
  24. I'd like to say that I wholeheartedly disagree. The ridiculously loud switches in something like tomcat completely ruin the experience for me. Like in what universe is the faint click of the radalt needle hitting the lower stop post going to be louder than the engines!
  25. To note with the pilots double press, its pressing once on depress and again on release. So you if you press and hold it will do a single action and then when you eventually release it does the second action.
