Welcome, F-18 startup video by Friday.....

And once again the trap is set, buy now(ish) and the Z370 or wait for Z490 and hopefully PCIe 4! Being as though there are no 8700k anywhere near Australia right now I have to wait annyway!

Atari ST! I had the Amiga, there was a sim that was the F-16 or F-18 and you had to escort AF1 into San Fransisco.

This Intel Ryzen thing is doing my head in, my 2600k is fine but the boy wants a rig to complement his XBox and PS4 - bloody kids, when I was young it was either an Amiga, an Atari ST, a Nintendo or a Megadrive, not all of them. So he can have the 2600k and I can get a new one. So my hunch is just go for the 8700k and live with it for the next 5+ years. But now its Threadripper (not heard of this until now reading this thread) and Ryzen folk are talking about. So I dont do much else other than gaming, no rendering, spreadsheets or video stuff. Looking at the newest 8700k its marginally better than the 7700k and blows away the AMD in all games tests. I too am wanting to try an future proof a bit as I think VR will be common during the life of new rig. So really, they way I see it is Intel is the fastest solution because even if games start using multiple cores, say even 4 cores in the next 5 years, we might only see a handful of games, Intel is still a faster chip?

Pretty cool, like it that you can cut ribs for a Kayak too! Said they have sold out though but may be taking some orders soon. What is the complete cost any idea? Take it that it can only do one pass too, does that limit the depth?

I was thinking about modding my Warthog for F/A-18 but I have an X-52 throttle and stick in pieces when I started and never finished a cyclic so I decided better of it. Found an old thread on here where Linden posted a panel .dxf so I though being as though the throttle is there the external power is, plus I am not going to be able to to a t/d trim push on the FCS panel I would just create a custom panel. Not sure of the functionality of F/A-18C - so the hatched box is for a warning tone silence if there is one! Feel bad following BB's lovely pit but I can never do that so have to work with what I have! I bought a Scroll Saw today, should assist making some of the panels. Also decided putting a dot in the middle of the printouts will help with making sure all the switch cut outs line up.

So I am preparing for the i7-8800k to upgrade, what is the difference between that at 4.6ghz and the 2600k at 4.6ghz?
-
Nice will have to look at that, thanks for circling back to let us know you found a solution, it's helped me and maybe others searching in future!

I dont think they can mate, I tried a few times, certainly nothing on the UFC I am sure.
-
easy, just pushed it up to 5 and it BSOD, set to 4.7 and ran through Vegas a few times and was very smooth. Thanks for the link.
-
That is awesome, how have you done it?

Hi, I run a pretty old rig and am ready for a new one, I dont want to destroy the one I have but thought I would have a go at overclocking. What is this saying, is the machine running at 4.3ghz ie. did I overclock it, or not? Thanks
-
Well the A-10C is going to pretty useless if you are on an amphibious map with no friendly airfields. Its just the Hornet and a CSAR bird! Oh and the AV8B N/A!
-
These are the basic plans, bit of on the fly adjustments to make the Panel deck longer and that angle steeper but not a bad start for anyone interested: Thanks to Klu at Hornetpits for the Sketchup of the cockpit.
-
All the panels are the same deep color as the FCS panel, must have been the angle of the photo and the light: Aldo, that button on the FCS will be replaced its just stuck in the paper, there will also be a LED properly seated in the APU panel.

All good Gus, I really liked the link, it does give better ideas when you see what can be done, I do have another one to make for the front console and will be trying to drill the shaft out of a pot, it could be easier and tidier. I have 2 GGG controllers from other builds but also bought some Nano's and as I want to LED i might also go for MMJoy and get a Mega. For the front screen it is going to be designed around a 32" monitor so I can upgrade to Touchscreen if I go for the Super Hornet on later releases.
-
I looked at that after you posted it, was intersting but seemed a bit out of my capability. Problem I have is the rudder trim on the FCS panel. I am sure that is a Pot and not an encoder, so i tried drilling down the pots shaft but I didnt have the right drill bit. I did find this product: Electro-Mech's SW44687 http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1313618 Although its 7 years old I am surprised the Chinese havnt copied it on Ali Express, might look at trying to buy one. Do you think it will work? Just had a thought, what about re-purposing a simple push on/off dimmer switch for lights in the house?

There are a lot of mod servers though in on-line gaming, one I am playing (Vietnam FPS) I had to download 3GB of steam workshop maps to play my favourite servers, but there are "vanilla servers". My thoughts are that DCS World should be a priced engine, doesnt have to be a $40 or $50 dollar one, but it shouldnt be free, that way maybe ED will have some money to pay 3rd parties who develop AI assets that can go into the core game.

What is the desired release date ish?
-
Engine sir, single engine, and a bloody fine thing it is too. Aside from Spitfire, the UKs use of weather systems or towns to name its aircraft is generally lame however, the Pegasus engine is refreshing and Harrier is a nice bird of prey as is the Hawk and Jaguar is an awesome cat. The Lightening 2 is a bit crap, it should have been named Zues. :helpsmilie:

upgrade intel i7 4790k to Intel i7-7820X
Mr_Burns replied to Lenux's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was going to upgrade my rig (well buy a new one and pass on current) this month but will have to go for i7-8800k - although those multi-cores dont help in DCS right now I play a heap of other sims/strategy games which will take advantage of it. Its a new architecture too so I feel that going 7700k is buying obsolete parts however I also guess the 8th gen will be out of date just as quick when Intel bust the 10nm. 1080ti should also see me through a few years before that becomes the bottleneck. If the i5 has more GHz but the i7 has more cores, does the 2.5 engine use more cores for better performance, could VR be better supported with "moar cores"? PS. I am no tech head, i just read a bit today when I was pricing up my new rig so please excuse my ignorance :-) -
Havnt been watching this as I thought it was a long way off, awesome news that its possibly a 2017 purchase let alone a Q3 if it makes it! Im off to look through the thread at its capability :-)

Im not sure LeCuvier understands what is being offered/on offer from GVl224. LeCuvier, GVl224 make Douane pot box for you.
