Eldur Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Couldn't update with 29.5GB free of space on my SSD. Thought this was over with the introdution of diff updates that's been announced in the patcher update this morning... I could fetch the Gulf map with less.

idenwen Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 2.9GB Why are we getting so many different updates? The new delta patches ?
pr1malr8ge Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 explain this to an idiot like me please What he is doing is moving files to a different folder or drive and putting in a link file for the game. The game sees the file like it is actually in the folder that it's looking for but windows servers it up via a different location. as he said it can get tricky remebering where things are at https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/ For the WIN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]If your desired effect on the target is making the pilot defecate his pants laughing then you can definitely achieve it with a launch like that.
noisy_lightning Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 2.9GB Why are we getting so many different updates? The new delta patches ? We all have different modules and terrains, the patch size is not just the Hornet, its multiple modules. explain this to an idiot like me please Easier to read this. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/ He can have his terrain folder on another drive but DCS wouldnt know its moved for example.

Mad_Max2 Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 If you check out the change log you'll see Normandy and WWII assets got a pretty substantial update, as well as a pretty hefty hornet list. 12gb here, all depends on what you got.

Why do you have two installs? You can switch back and forth between stable and Beta on the fly with a command line option. There is zero reason to have both. Most people are using Beta right now, once Stable gets some of these fixes, it'll go back to being the popular release again. hansangb Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I made a YT vid for those who may not be familiar with mklink command. In this example, I was using mklink to maintain one copy of joystick configs. If you make a change in 1.5x version of DCS, it would be reflected in 2.x and vice versa. Just pick one directory as the master, and create a link from the slave. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

JIMJAM Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Speaking of a new SSD.... I had no choice as my main SSD was full so I just got a 1tb SSD. Moved DCS over and simply placed another shortcut on my desktop. The difference was very noticeable when the initial map load took 10 seconds. Then I noticed my fps stayed well over 120-160 and gone were the small hitches during fast rolls and tight turns. No doubt adding ai and missions will knock it down but running DCS by itself on a large ssd is the worth the $$$. Don't need 1 tb but thats what I said a year ago when I got the one 1/2 it's size. Do it!!
