Whit DCS 2.0xxxx coming ever closer. Screenshots published that are taken in EDGE i am starting to wonder.

Any of the testers or developers able to comment on the following?

Currently Nvidea seem to be by far the best gfx card you can use for DCS World.

Does EDGE change this or does the game engine still like Nvidea better?

Asking cause im already holding off buying a new GFX card for almost 2 years now awaiting EDGE........

(and how about SLI / Crossfire support?)

Wags already stated in the Oculus Rift Thread:

One of the biggest reasons for the new engine is for improved frame rates. This will help a lot in meeting comfortable performance requirements. We already support predictive tracking and Time Warp.

That statement Doesn't answer the question the OP asked....

That Statement right now is all you have to go on, until an update is provided by the Team.

EDGE's Main reason for existence is Improved Visuals, Object Counts and frame rates.

As for the Beta Testers Performance, they are under NDA, I think we've been over this already with other threads regarding performance and EDGE Related questions.

That and EDGE is Likely still being integrated, so things are still being tweaked and adjusted, so any "Performance numbers" are still not solidified,

As for DCS's Current DX9 Engine Favoring nVidia, that's because nVidia created a Driver Profile for it (well, Originally for DCS Black Shark but it's been updated a few times IIRC.).

AMD hasn't made any profile's for DCS and when emailed about it, they responded with the same "We no longer support Legacy DirectX Engines"

(Meaning they wont touch older Applications that run on DX9, and DX10 for that matter.)

(Trust me, I've been all over AMD, every driver release submitting the feedback/reports, for the last 3 years, nothing, and I'm not the only one submitting the feedback/reports).

Does it make a difference? Maybe/Maybe not,

As there are still driver level DirectX Functions that can be enabled/disabled/Adjusted by AMD that End-Users don't have access to, and one wrong default setting can make a huge difference in today's applications.

DirectX9 has issues with High Object Counts/Draw Calls, DX11 not so much; CPU Overhead is a big problem with DX9c And DCS has Evolved Graphically to the point where it's pushing the original engine to the Max.

While Moving to DX11 won't guarantee AMD will make a Profile for DCS for their Drivers,

It will however change things for the better w/ More Efficient Use of Today's Hardware Architectures and Improved Resource Management. (not getting into specifics and technical mumbo jumbo.)

This is a bit pointless to ask now since they are still working on it and likely want it to run as well as possible on all supported hardware. At release time we'll know if there is still difference in performance.

Most optimizations usually occur quite late in software development and the devs are likely working on that at the moment (plus bugfixing etc.)

So hang tight, it's not that far away now.. :music_whistling:

I have been AMD card user for a quite few year. I cap fps at 30. I prefer a stable 30fps rather than 30~60fps.

I just hope the EDGE could improve the explosion optimization. Every time when I drop 6+ bombs or rockets, the fps drops like a freefall. It really spoils the experience.

I noticed one of the 3'rd party developers used Titan SLI, probably overdoing it. But I would think it's still Nvidia thats better.

EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

I notice that trend too, i hope theres gonna be some testing without 1500$ graphics cards... :(

That's probably used as a workstation aswel.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Who is that ATI everybody is talking aboutbiggrin.gif

I noticed that and based my decision about my new graphic card on this. I didn`t even check ATI price/performance ratios or compared it against my chosen nVidia card. I am not some fanboy, but I play mainly old or not so common games. If they change their thinking about supporting only top 10 game titles I might consider them again.

No engine smoke effect with nvidia.

Really? Are you serious? I have amd with crossfire but was likely to change to nvidia depending on how my PC performs with EDGE but I didn't realise this.

Yeah theres a thread about it somewhere where the smoke is much less pronounced for (perhaps only some) nvidia users. Even in our own squad when we compare screenshots there is a significant difference between AMD cards and nvidia.

its so faint, it might as well not be there (slight exaggeration)

AMD is just a graphical glitch/bug, Rage, we all know it. No way to say it is "proper".

NVIDIA correctly renders engine smoke trails, there's nothing wrong here.

My opinion is that if AMD won't even support DirectX ONE GENERATION back then I will never buy AMD in the future. (Not all game companies update DirectX versions as soon as they are available.) ED is an example of this.. And I am certainly not going to spend that kind of cash on a video card only to have it run sub-par in a year because the AMD won't support it sufficiently..

One more nail in AMD's coffin as far as I am concerned.. Looks like I will stick with Nvidia regardless of how AMD cards work with EDGE..
