Hi.

There's been talk of us getting a flyable air-to-air refueler somewhere down the line. I'm just curious how many of you would actually buy it. This is assuming PFM, ASM, and multi-player support for all the major stations.

P.S.

Please don't turn this into a wish list for other types of aircraft.

Thanks!

Maybe.

No interest here.. Flying straight and level for hours on end so others can top off? I am snoring just thinking about it! We certainly need tankers for this sim, but the AI ones are just fine for me...

so.. NOPE

I would, it would be a nice way of combining more sedate FSX/P3D civil (which is rewarding in it's own way), with the hustle and bustle of combat flying.

If it was a choice between a couple of sectors in a tubeliner or fueling a few flights of fighters, fighters every time....

Nope.

I wouldn't be against an aircraft like the A6 Intuder having a checkbox in the mission editor to turn it into a KA-6D, as that might be quite interesting and could make for fun scenarios.

But a dedicated refueler? Nah, it'd be interesting to learn it initially, but the normal missions it does are not fun and it would just become an AI use only plane while I'm off flying other things.

As an active member of a very realism-oriented Arma unit, I could see the potential in something like this for large units just to add the extra dimension.

However, I would have no interest in flying it.

I'd fly a tanker, HC-130, MC-130, KC-130, Victor K2, KC-10A, KA-6D, S-3B, EKA-3B. I'd like to fly any and all military missions as the achievement of mission goals and teamwork are far more important to me than racking up kills just to rack up kills. The problem is that the size of the current map is far too small to require tankers for anything other than ambiance.

Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

No, not if its a real tanker like the KC135. But if its a combat jet that can be turned into a tanker like Buzzles said, i would love it. (cough F18 cough)

I would buy it just because this one can set a transition to non-combat/civil planes. Of course it should preserve the DCS standards, otherwise is absolutely useless. An autopilot can do the same think.

I believe VEAO intents to do one, A330 MRTT iirc.

Well I probably would buy it on discount to support, but only because flight discipline required by those is not quite my kind of flight :).

An AWACS module could be awesome, but to be honest at least some AWACS functionality can already be provided by a combined arms player on map if there is an AI AWACS or EWR on map currently.

I am of the opinion that all aircraft released for DCS are a must purchase item. I'd fly a tanker, I'd fly a wide bodied jet. I'd even fly a Sopwith Camel.

The reasons for me are simple. Every plane I have added to my collection has it's own personality, it's own quirks, and that to me makes them a challenge.

Would I fly a tanker exclusively every mission - of course not! Would I fly tanker missions occasionally when I was fed up of handing out death and destruction on a biblical scale? If the module cost me $50, and it kept me entertained for a few months learning the systems, learning to fly a new airframe that was modelled to the same exquisite standards as the MiG-21Bis or A-10C - hell yes!

I voted yes, but not really for the refueling mission. I would maybe do a few if the game needs it - but for me that would be the first step toward Airliners, and since i stopped FSX completely in favor of DCS, I really, really, really, really really, really really, really really, really really, really miss airliners and big birds.

I would only buy one if it came with other (another) aircraft that can/has to use it and comes with pre-made missions/campaign/map in which it is used (I am admittedly lazy when it comes to missions/campaigns because I admittedly am not very creative), but even then, given it's limited use, I wouldn't want to pay much for it.

The problem I see with DCS at the moment is that the additional planes seem to be rather haphazard with no narrative between them. None of the newer modules seem to come with proper campaigns and are a little out of place on the GTO map currently in DCS.

A more structured approach to adding modules is needed I think. Like if you add a Spitfire add an English Channel map, a campaign (Battle of Britain for example) and AI/Flyable German bombers/fighters of the era the Spitfire flew in.

It's a lot of work, I don't deny that, but it would add a whole lot to DCS rather than the current "here's [insert name of plane] go learn to fly it, go fly in multiplayer if you're competent enough, go make a random mission or two if you want to fly offline against AI" approach.

Besides, I'm a chopper pilot primarily in DCS - I don't need an in-flight refueller. :P:D

I voted yes. Really interested in the Airbus A330 MRTT that VEAO plans to release. It's less about the tanking for me and more about learning to fly a big plane like that in a simulator that works well with my computer.

I read up a bit about the A330 MRTT. Apparently, it can double as a cargo plane or troop transport. That would add some appeal, I think. Edited by kontiuka
