I wouldn't say everything else.

 

 

Those fall under using DX11 to render the map, obviously...

Well their is many improved graphical effects which is clearly seen in recent videos and screen shots of the Old map being rendered in the Edge engine. Looks amazing from the new grass to the new clouds on top of better lighting and shadowing it will prove to be a great upgrade.

id like to ask, given that DCS currently max's out one of my cores and leaves the others untouched apart from a medial use for sound, and that overclocking my cpu from 4,7 to 5 ghz gained me and average increase of 30 fps. could you explain how not multithreading to use per say 3 or 4 cores of my 8 will provide no benefit? especially when considering those with lower clock speeds. optimizing the gpu is useless if the game will just lug up the second you fly towards the warzone, if sed cpu can only compute 20 fps then the gfx can only process those frames. sorry if this is answered in the previous 130 pages :) but the current engine is clearly cpu bottle-necked not gpu.

I'm just a dumb weapons guy but it's evidently very complicated. Would seem to make more sense to use more cores but we've been told it won't make a difference and that Edge the new graphics renderer will make the difference..

True multi-threading is very time consuming to program. There is also the downside that you incur an overhead when you utilize multi-threading. Typically one processor is waiting on another to finish its "thread."

 

ED has stated before that they will continue to move what they can onto additional processors. Moving sound was a small step. To code DCS for true multi-threading, ignoring my previous comments, it would take a complete rebuild from the ground up to do it right.

 

Most games today are not able to utilize more than two cores.

 

Now wait around for a more detailed technical analysis of "why" from other members.

Its really been discussed to death, but long story short, the new engine is designed to utilize your GPUs better, this will take the load of the CPU you currently see, and should improve performance quite a bit...

I feel bad for sithspawn, tomorrow is April fools and I imagine many Dcs 2.0 release thread will present it self.

 

As far as news wags did comment yesterday in the oculus rift thread here. Good news the gui is fully oculus rift dk2 compatible in Dcs 2.0 now!

A little update: Full GUI support is now working for the DK2 in DCS World 2.

Hi,

after long time I started flying the A10C again recently and I got one question that I don't recall being mentioned in any of the EDGE updates - is FLIR going to be improved in EDGE ? I mean nowdays FLIR in DCS is just a postprocess filter. Is this going to improve with some temperature mapping in DCS 2.0 (think Arma3) ?

Wow, that is great news! I was afraid we'd have to wait months after 2.0 was released for them to re-implement DK2 support.

That right their is one aspect I really hope is improved upon. Yes Arma3 has an awesome thermal simulation and Edge should be more than capable in doing the same considering how advanced Edge is. Defiantly a wish list item!

I dont think they have given any information that I know of about thermal simulation or if any changes can or will be done with EDGE on this.

we shouldn't expect all respects being included in the initial ver. of dcs 2.0

even no such info, it does not mean incapability.

Exactly... I think 2.0 will be a gateway to many improvements, some maybe not even mapped out yet.
I kind of like it that way anyways. Means there's always something down the road to look forward to.

think about past dcs updates where many changes are never listed but they do exist. i believe many expectation of users could be in similar situation and will be revealed as surprise
