Because that is what they choose to do. This is the path ED is taking right now. You guys are getting lots for free already, even the ability to create maps if you show you have the abilities and apply for 3rd party status...

 

Anyways, this really is getting off topic, the tools are being released as stated, that isnt changing right now. No amount of discussion is going to change that at this time.

My own theory is (I'll be glad if somebody tells me why I'm wrong), that they don't want map tools public so there won't be any free mods directly competing with ED's paid content.

 

As much as I'm a supporter of modding etc, this seems fair enough to me, even if it is just an assumption for now. ED are a relatively small company, they need to make money, if they don't, we have no more DCS: World, simple.

 

I'll happily support them, and if they choose to allow community maps later on, well that's just fine also.

This thread is not about comparisons between an Unreleased Version of DCSW and Released Versions of other Game Engines. (ArmA III, FrostBite III Etc).

 

Nor is it about Disputes regarding former 3rd Party promises in terms of what software will be freely distributed. (RRG / Land Viewer etc)

No point in buying a Sabre or FW-190 for a Digital Combat Simulator if you can't simulate a proper combat enviroment for them.

 

There is lots of point. I'd love to have all of the proper environments and settings etc. But even as it stands DCS is unsurpassed in terms of fidelity and flight models etc. I have hd more than enough fun simply learning and flying some of these airfcraft to make them good purchases for me. Once DCS2 is out and we start seeing more scenery etc, things will only get better.

Everyone is talking about new maps and yet we still don't even have DCS 2. The last news letter mentioned they were nearing the time for an alpha release, but that was like 6 weeks ago now. Does anyone know if we are still months away from getting DCS 2? I thought it was imminent after reading the February news letter, it certainly sounded like it was to me.

Nothing has changed as far as I know... they are still hard at working polishing it up and squashing any blocking bugs, etc. They want it out, just as much, if not more than us.

The same story happened with Cliffs of Dover. Now it's dead.

Just follow what il2 BoS was doing release it and fix the bugs with the help of players.

Expected the wait to DCS: W 2 don't extender one year more, if not will be a very frustrate wait.

 

Very interesting if some new or newsletter talk about of more progress about of develop side points put by wags in the Froogle january video, and mudspike interview.

I saw many friends going on others sims bored by the wait or sell everything, but I want only DCS so I wait.

Im full of frustration ,waiting one more year I cant I will give up and sell all HOTAS and sim stuff to buy a PS4. LOL.

That would be great if I was into mountain biking ;), but yeah you're right. There is life outside of DCSW.

 

A question I have, and maybe it has been discussed or maybe it's impossible to know, but how long would the public alpha be planned for? There will still be some waiting for us unfortunates because I did not purchase the A-10C beta back then.

I may be wrong but from my understanding the dcs 2.0 alpha will be for everybody then the Nevada map alpha will be for those that pre purchased or bought a10c module in beta.? Mods please correct me if wrong....

It seemed to me at one time that public alpha was only for those that purchased the A-10C beta, but looking at the bold portion it seems that those of us who didn't purchase the A-10C beta may still have access to the NTTR map, but with a cost, which I have no gripe with. I hope I understand that correctly, if not someone please correct me. :)
