ram0506
I hope everything will be smooth for the backers of the kickstarter project, who get the map and the assets pack for free. On the backers support page I have sections for all aircraft with their serial numbers, but there is no field for serial numbers for the map or assets pack shown. But Normandy map is shown under "rewards". Rangi
Does anybody know how much hard disk space this map is expected to require? I am sure someone does, but not me. I just checked my SSD and I am down to 40gb so if it's that big I may have to ditch 1.5. I guess it won't get much of a run once Normandy is out anyway. John Hargreaves
Does anyone know how much will be going on below in the Normandy map? From what I have read it's set in the period after the landings, so for instance if you fly along the coast over the landing beaches, will we be able to see ships and pontoons etc working below like they had at Arromanches, or will it be more of a blank canvas upon which to build missions? I haven't been able to pick up on any details like that, but may have missed it or maybe that level of detail hasn't been disclosed yet. i7-7700K/Gigabyte RTX2080/Win10 64bit/32Gb RAM/Asus Xonar DX+Sennheiser HD380pro headphones/LG 34" UM65 @2560x1080/TM Warthog+VKB MkIV Rudder pedals/Rift CV1

Captain Orso
If the merge to 2.5 does not come anytime soon, I am definitely going to have to add another SSD LOL. ED said that when the Caucasus map is ready, they will merge DCS 1.5 and 2.0 into DCS 2.5. IIRC the Caucasus map will be pre-installed in 2.5, or in be integral part; ie it cannot be uninstalled. At that time 1.5 (both GA and Beta) and 2.0 Alpha will become obsolete. In 2.5 NTTR, Normandy, and all future theater/terrain/map modules (SOH, Iwo Jima, North Africa, etc) will then be activated/installed through the module manager. Since ED, from my readings, is going to put out DCS 2.1 specifically so that the Normandy map can be installed, I believe it is simply an unplanned step to make the Normandy map available to the clamoring public in advance of 2.5 . So 2.1 will be will be your installation of choice if you wish to use NTTR and/or Normandy :) When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. I've only seen the discussion about the airfields, which IIRC will all be present as static features in the map. I don't recall any discussion about things like the Mulberries or other infrastructure. I'd be surprised if ships and other objects, which are generally available for placement in the ME will be 'hard coded' into the map. I believe there may be some ME presets/templates which include the D-Day accoutrements :). 1 When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. John Hargreaves
Interesting thanks. Something I'd love to do is just fly over the Normandy coast a couple of weeks after the landings, just to observe what was going on below. There is still quite a lot of the artificial harbour there at Arromanches, and it really makes you think about the enormous scale of the invasion. I've visited Normandy quite a few times and the echoes of D-Day are still all around, it's a very special part of the world. Looking forward to seeing all those places from the air in the MKIX. 1 i7-7700K/Gigabyte RTX2080/Win10 64bit/32Gb RAM/Asus Xonar DX+Sennheiser HD380pro headphones/LG 34" UM65 @2560x1080/TM Warthog+VKB MkIV Rudder pedals/Rift CV1
bart
If the merge to 2.5 does not come anytime soon, I am definitely going to have to add another SSD LOL. LOL yeah me too. I wish they would be a little more forthcoming with how they plan to do the merge. For those of us, and me currently, I have 3 versions of DCS. 1.5.6 Release, 1.5.6 Beta and 2.x.x with NTTR. Now it would be really useful to get a bit of a heads up on say, is it worth keeping 1.5.6 Beta? as I would say this may become redundant soon as I wouldn't have thought they will progress 1.5.6 much further as it is, other than bug fixes. It could then be planned to turn 2.x.x into 2.1 with Normandy release, then just make this into a 2.5 Alpha or Beta release with upgraded Caucasus map, once all is ok then a big update to 1.5.6 release to turn this into 2.5 release and just have a 2.5 release and a Beta version for community testing? Now to have a release version and a Beta version of 2.5 with all three maps installed as separate entities, that's gonna be huge!! Looking forward to how it all pans out but for now it's all a wee bit confusing at the moment! cichlidfan
From the system requirements: You might notice that those 'system requirements' are the same for every single module. I don't think that is accurate in any way, shape or form. EDIT: My sim machine is not up right now but from what I recall about my disk space, I would guess that all three maps and all modules will total somewhere between 75 & 90GB when v2.5 is released. Talisman_VR
I won't jump in with the Normandy map yet as I intend to stick with V1.5 and don't plan to run more than one version of DCS. ED Team NineLine Posted March 11, 2017 ED Team Share Posted March 11, 2017 So when SoH comes out, will we have to pay for liveries for the Iraqi and Iranian air force? What about units that fit that theater, will they be payed as well? ED has never charged for liveries that I know of, and has no plans to that I know of. I also know of no asset pack for Iran right now, we have plenty of units that will work.
