f4l0 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Ok, I finally sorted it out:) I installed the second sensor but it didn`t make a difference. Because the flickering was happening while there was some cockpit shaking I suspected that it might had been the simshaker software. So I disabled it and Voila! The flickering was gone. Because I had never read about an issue like this, I thought that it is probably my hardware`s and not the simshaker`s fault. And indeed it was my cheapo USB soundcard which was used by the simshaker to power the buttkicker. This USB soundcard was in the same mobo USB port cluster as one of the oculus sensors. Probably due to bad shielding it interfered with it and corrupted the sensor`s signal when a strong simshaker signal went out thru it. Now the soundcard is moved into an usb hub and all is fine:) Ah nice to know! I put this in our SSA FAQ! f4l0 Developer of Simshaker for Aviators Feel the brrrrttt: [Official] SimShaker for Aviators Forums thread at ED forums SimShaker for Aviators (simshaker-for-aviators.github.io)

Baracuda Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 (edited) I have a i7 6700k and a 580gtx 3gb . Wil it run a rift dk2 ? What is the experience with dk2 in dcs? Ill ask this because of the huge price gab with the cv1 . The dk2 suits my budget atm until I be able to go for the cv1.:smilewink: Ty for explaining it to me. Edited September 5, 2017 by Baracuda
Gunja Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 In my case DK2 was adequate for racing sims but not quite there for DCS. There wasnt VR zoom present when i tried it with DK2 so you might be able to get more out of it now than i did. I think you will be able to run it with 580 but most if not all gfx settings will have to be on low. When your fps drop or stutter happens in VR, it will not only make your gaming unpleasant but it will also make you physically ill/sick. One more big difference for me betewwn dk2 and cv1 is ASW. It is mostly ON in DCS, giving you 45 fps with cv1 and stuff seem smooth. But DK2 is 75hz and ASW will produce only 37.5 FPS and the experience is not as smooth as it is with 45 FPS. I was not happy how DCS worked and looked with DK2 and since the immersion of it spoiled the monitor gaming for me, i only raced and didnt fly at all until i bought CV1.
Baracuda Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Tnx for your reply. It gave me something to think about
hansangb Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Yup, I would agree. Save the money for CV1 instead of buying the DK2. Unless it's for $25 USD or something. Anything else would be a waste. Better to put it towards the CV1 fund. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

javelina1 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 I am currently running a GTX 970. How much of a performance increase would I see if I upgraded to a 1080ti? When I went from a 970 to a 1080, it was big (in 2D). I didn't have my Rift at the time. My 1080 is working just fine with the Rift. With a 1080Ti, I would imagine it's quite a leap. But I'll let the 1080Ti crowd give their testimonials. I believe DCS 2.x is still a challenge performance wise, (but will improve over time). Gunja Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 I had 980 and when i paid for a new 1080ti on the webshop, i felt really bad... so much money for a card. That feeling went away when i saw FPS rise even double in some cases. I would buy it again.

dogbite Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 (edited) As nice as the 1080ti is the price is certainly a tough pill to swallow if one is only considering the performance gains in DCS in relationship to that cost. Once you throw it's power at all the wonderful VR titles out there any concerns of whether the decision to buy one was right fade away under the pressure from the constant silly grin that creeps onto your face as you crank settings on game after game. Spent a $1000 CA on the 1080ti and haven't any regrets here. BlackLion213 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I upgraded from a 970 to a 1080Ti recently (though also upgraded RAM from 16 to 32 and switched DCS to a SSD), but the change was remarkable. With the 970, 2.1 with deferred lighting (especially Normandy) was nearly unplayable in the Rift (frames in the teens and twenties). With the 1080Ti, I turned most things up and hover around 45 most of the time. The change made a huge difference. -Nick
Mad Dog 7.62 Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Thanks, that's where I am now. NTTR is passable, Normandy is not....at all. It should be in the late of this year, but AMD is no concurrence in this segment, so Nvidia pushed it back to next year. redtail Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) Hi, I'm a happy new CV1 owner but an old DCS player (on and off that is). I'm also into X-Plane 11, but haven't tried it in the rift yet. Hopefully this weekend. I'm getting good, smooth performance in 1.5 but 2.1 is a bit stuttering. I know it's still being optimized, so I'll probably stick to 1.5 for now. My question is in reference to the sensation of speed in VR. It seems a little slow to me compared to what it feels like on a monitor. The A-10C and P-51D are the only two I've tried so far, but is that correct? Perhaps it's due to the scale of the aircraft now that I'm sitting "inside" as opposed to looking at them on a monitor. Just wanted to know what others thought on the matter. Thanks Edited September 14, 2017 by redtail ~Redtail~ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Phantom88 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I don't believe XPlane is VR ready without running an external program,an update is said to be in the works. Patrick
redtail Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Yes Patrick, I'm aware of that. I watched their VR demo at FlightSimCon, via YouTube. I'll get Flyinside for now. Thanks ~Redtail~ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
WindyTX Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Redtail it feels about right to me. Tho obviously it depends on how low you are flying , at 250ft irl there is not a lot of ground rushing by at 100ft its getting there but this was at 420kts fwiw. Even taking HMD off to have look at what happens on the screen (in full screen mode) while taxiing the difference is quite noticeable. I've also noticed the difference in sensation of speed in NTTR vs Caucasus maps. In NTTR it feels much faster especially during takeoff. I was trying to think what could be the cause of this difference in sensation (graphics, lighting, resolution) and I can't really explain it. As a side note I've been flying in VR for 5 months now and it is absolutely incredible how much improvement in performance has been made by ED. For me the performance of DCS 2.1 was unacceptable until now and I could not fly even with shadows off, now since the last two updates I finally got into NTTR and it is incredibly smooth even with shadows and mirrors on. Just WOW!

Just WOW! Go and fly at 20ft and see if you think it feels slow. Also, next time you're a front seat passenger in a car, narrow your FOV to that of the rift with your hands and you'll notice the reduction in FOV also reduces the feeling of speed you get from normal peripheral vision.
RUS38 Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Go and fly at 20ft and see if you think it feels slow. As if I have not done so a 1000+ times. :megalol:

I only ask because my comparison was only between 2D monitor and VR. 250KIAS down low feels faster to me on my monitor. I'd guess that's because you use larger FOV on your monitor. Try to adjust the FOV on your monitor to correspond to what you see in VR when looking straight and compare again.
Terzi Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 I have been using Oculus for a week. I am pretty disappointed only and only because of the resolution. In SU-27 I can not read the heading on the HUD. Everything else is perfect, it is a totally different experience. You can't compare it with any monitor. You can really feel how huge in fact SU-27 is compared to F-5 or F-16; and you can feel how huge is IL-78 compared to SU-27. Try to fly in close formation, it is a great joy. You really get the feeling of speed and altitude and aircraft behavior in many ways. This technology will advance to greater resolution and then it will be the perfection in flight simming. Just needs few years. I wish I didn't purchase it yet and wait for higher resolution VR devices. [CENTER] [/CENTER]
