Caucasus map expansion

Hi Guys,

 

I've read on the forums that the Caucasus map is going to be expanded, with more areas added.

 

does anyone know where ED will expand the Map? up north towards the Crimea, or down South Towards the black sea/turkey?

 

going up north would make more sense, as its close to alot of Ukraine vs USSR fighting, which would be great to role-play, however, I do note that Tukish russian relations weren't so strong a while ago when that SU-24 was shot down.

 

I'm hoping they expand up north. this would also suit the WW2 era ED is branching into as well.

What about old Crimea? It was said that amount of land was a limit.

Is it still a case? It would be enormous shame if old Crimea was not added now to the game as there is great opportunity now.

Sorry, but certainly not. This is a huge UPDATE to the current map. It's not a map expansion, which would be far out of scope.

That's one really sad news. I really liked the old Crimea area and was hoping to see its comeback with EDGE. The Caucasus area is kind of boring...

I never realized what degree of accuracy there was to the map. As an overall % would you say it's 50% modelled accurately to real world?

It is sad news then. Caucascuscus (wtf that name) is not the same as Crimea. Still have a lot of good memories about flying over it.

IMHO it is bad decision as it is cool place, always connected to the roots of LOMAC series, and DCS has them there.

It is not entirely flat, especially the coastline, but also deeper inland there are amazing sights. Also, it gives lots of new opportunities for mission / campaign makers. I'd love to see it in and would happily pay for it as a DLC.

1st: Good old memories. :D

2nd: It isn't entirely flat. The south-east side of the peninsula and coastline have a nice low mountain range. We had a lot of fun with the A-10A there, in the region around Feodossija, as well. There were a lot of nice airbases, too.

3rd. Adds a lot of airspace, combat area and interesting missions to the map.

 

 

 

PS: And we had our homebase at Saki AFB. Would be nice, to take-off from there, again. :)

I had enormously great time at Crimea, still remember flying over it.

Caucus is not the same, not worse but just.... not the same memories.

Honest question: what was the reason why Crimea was removed, and why is it out of question that it will be re-included?

 

 

IMO Crimea would bring back:

 

- more airbases

- longer range operations (A-A refuelling could be a thing, as it is IRL)

- a piece of Ukraine

- a very actual theatre of operations, considering the current real world situation.

While the new engine probably handles it fine (I don't actually know), the amount of work to add Crimea back is probably something ED doesn't want to undertake, at least at this time.

What he said, the amount of work and effort going into the old map, free of charge, right now just doesnt warrant the extra work right now, and it would be a lot of extra work for sure. It's also a touchy subject area for a lot of people, might be something they might want to steer clear of right now as well. But I would assume its resources more than anything.

I am sure its possible, but I know of no plans currently to do it.

But to expand the caucasus map would be great, as well. As I wrote, maybe later or as payware DLC with a little bit of the north of Turkey. I loved the terrain there.

I want it back because of childhood memories with Flanker 2.0 and because of aribases like Saki:

IF the community modders pulled together and rebuild the Crimea [no pun intended] as a community project would that do??? Be like a 4th party so to speak...
