Overparduffer Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I think it looks ama... Oh wait I'm a Steam user #$@#%#$%%^!@#
twistking Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) I may need to learn RESHADE. No, you probably don't. Check the official 2.5 videos and official screenshots. If your DCS doesn't look that way, you might have to change settings... Delete the shader cache, delete old video options/config, put deferred shading to "ON" and check again... I don't have 2.5 myself, but i've seen plenty of videos, that look as expected (a.k.a. very good) and i've seen some, that look bad (i suspect because it was set up poorly, or because of outdated hardware). I think it looks ama... Oh wait I'm a Steam user #$@#%#$%%^!@# Me too.... me too... KeyCat Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I only flew via RDP as my keyboard is broken, but hey, it was fluid ! :) Wow! Didn't know RDP supported 3D apps.
Valinor Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Sadly, I'm not seeing the dramatic differences that everyone on this thread is seeing. There are more trees....with perfect edges. The terrain is washed out and still has the bluish tint. With DS, the gamma setting either makes the terrain look good with a overly dark cockpit or the terrain is too light with a perfectly lit cockpit. It could be something that I have set wrong. I do appreciate the work that went into this, but honestly it's not a game changer for me. I haven't flown any helos yet....that could change my mind. I may need to learn RESHADE. Have you tried checking all the combinations with cockpit global illumination on/off?

FOXFIRE TWOONE Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Testing around Batumi I find preferred shading (on ) a must for me. Without (on ) trees from distance look like their clumped together. But their is an FPS sacrifice of 40's to 60's on and 50's to 60's off. I have to go with appearance ( on ) in this case. Low level flight K-50. j0nx Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I only got about 5 minutes in it lastnight and it looked awesome. Only thing I am not sure about is the trees and they look flat until you get right up on them. Almost like sprites. Maybe it's a setting or something? Oh and the clouds roll and twirl around still so not sure if the new clouds are implemented or not? StrongHarm Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Did anyone else notice that while landing on an unprepared surface in a helo the degraded visual environment is different? I couldn't see through the dust.. it was pretty awesome. Another thing that really blew me away is looking into a treeline from low level in a helo. It looks realistically dark and the deeper trees fade nicely. Smoke, dust, and fog particles are all way better from my point of view. Love the new explosions as well.. great job ED! 1 It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Slazi Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I got a massive surprise when I noticed Steam downloading this. The 10GB update arrived in under thirty minutes somehow. I am so happy ED pushed this out to Steam so early. The biggest thing that struck me was visibility. I can actually see things now. Targets on the ground seem clearly visible from a distance. I also seem to get a better frame rate (pretty steady 100fps compared to around 60 previously). Really really happy!
Pizmo Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I think it looks great. I wanted to mention for me at least the VR zoom is working great now. Still the green dot in the F-15 HUD but I'm not complaining. Not flying it much anymore anyways. Nice job and thanks ED! Pizmo

It looked good but it also looked off in VR somehow. kontiuka Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Have a pretty positive impression so far. Download took a while (5 hours) but install was very straightforward. Took a few spins in the C-101, my go-to module with everything maxed out and mirrors on and frame rates were decent - 45 to 60 fps. Not bad for my older machine. Nice job, ED.

cults Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Had a great first few free flights in 2.5 in vr flying up the valleys around Batumi and all I can say is wow good job with eye candy up high and down low. tried. A10C. Spit. huey. m 2000 Also I cant say what fps I had cos I didn't turn it on:
The_Pharoah Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Absolutely love 2.5. Finally having everyone on one merged platform is awesome as well. Sandman1330 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 A.ma.zing. I can actually crank settings right to full, even with shadows, and still rock a stable 45fps in VR! Finally the money I invested in a high end system is paying off! And thermal... it’s usable again! Haven’t tried going back to Normandy on my new high settings yet though... hopefully it’s playable, I’d hate to have to change settings each time I change maps! fierceBeaver Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 For.me it doesn't look much more different in VR with 1.8 pixel density. I mean it does look nicer, sharper and more colorful due to deferred shading being on. But on the ground trees still look flat. Overall it's a much nicer experience. The A10 cockpit is much more a vibrant dark in VR in 2.5 again due to deferred shading. But at least it was smooth. I'm using the same settings jabbers used when he did the VR settings YouTube video. Tree rendering is anisotropic filtering dependable now. Change it to x16
