Technically speaking, F18 Hornet should not even be in Stable, because it is an Open Beta aircraft. Only finished and stable air-frames should be in Stable.

Kindly keep your misconstrued hands off my(running stable) Hornet :)

Hmmm, by that definition there would be nothing to fly in the stable version.

Yeah, I'm long in the tooth as well. Started with Jane's, DI's Super Hornet and, Graph Sim's Operation Iraqi Freedom. Back then, flight sims were equivalent to a go cart constructed from wooden milk boxes. Remember when! Its incredible how the tech has evolved and IMHO, DCS has been at forefront. I too have been waiting for a serious F/A-18 sim (now my go-to aircraft). Its awesome - not to mention the graphics. Oddly enough, I had a Hornet Joystick plastic replica (put out by Sun something or other - can't remember now - its been so long). Looking forward to TM's F/A-18 stick release.

Long in the tooth and started with Jane's?

*feels old*

I started with Strike Commander, the first 3d flight "sim". Then moved to F-22 ADF and TAW.

Jane's was next level compared to those games.

For me there is nothing disappointing...Especially the Hornet.

It is in EA and I appreciate that we have it rather than still waiting.

I have been waiting for 20+ years for a high fidelity F18 in a decent graphics engine with nice maps. Elated this has happened during my lifetime. There were times I had doubts it would ever happen. So I am thankful for ED and DCS. At this point, my simming life would suck without them.

There are us older sim pilots that appreciate what we have considering from where we have come over those many years.

In fact, I am enjoying the Hornet so much that I dont give a rats arse whether it is updated every two weeks or not. But I know it will come. Being impatient and then disappointed because a patch does not come with the goodies you want when you want it makes no sense at all. The F18 record to date does not justify that.

My thoughts exactly.

actually early access release of the hornet is considered alpha

stable version of DCS world gets a stable build of the hornet alpha

beta version of DCS world gets a potentially unstable build of the hornet alpha under development.

so we're technically alpha testing the hornet while beta testing DCS world

hornet goes beta when it has all the features, but still hasn't been tested through and through to be considered stable.

AFAIK.

I wonder if any of those terms are really appropriate for DCS anymore.

It's common for titles these days to release without all of their planned content, but it's usualy much more clear cut what's missing and when you'll get it (e.g. more maps for Battlefield). Missing content/early access doesn't tend to result in the 'alpha' label being placed on those, so why DCS? Sure, we have to wait for modules to be feature complete, but what constitutes feature complete is far far more than it ever was before.

'Early access' I expect, is a system here to stay. ED/their partners and third parties have set the bar so high we don't expect anything less than totally modelled aircraft.

While this can be frustraiting, this genre is a niche of a niche; we're fortunate anyone manages to make this a business at all.

Wags said, that we`ll have HOTAS HARM Sequence with tomorrow`s update ...

Is that means, that we will get HARMs tomorrow?

What is the "HOTAS HARM sequence"...and where was this mentioned?

Yeah I thought of that, didn't point it out but now that I saw someone else I'm also agreeing, it's what would you expect from logic.

Although I am using only Release, I'm not in rush but also using an older SSD for DCS which is only 128GB, so I wouldn't be able to play it on here and had to use the beta.

That saved me from having those controls broken due to a new patch, I wasn't affected by it at all.

Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, P-47, FC3, SC, CA, WW2AP, CE2. Terrains: NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf, Syria

I'm quite sure that it refers to the HOTAS button (switch?) on the throttle being usable to change the FOV of the Maverick missile (it wasn't functional in the last update), not that we get HARMs.

That button has different functionality depending on which weapon / instrument is active. In case of HARM it changes / progresses the sequence (what ever that is, I'm not familiar how the HARM works), and with the Maverick (and possibly with ATFLIR, once we get that) it changes the FOV.

If you notice software development has moved to Agile Development. I don't know if Eagle Dynamics is using two week sprints, but it sounds like it. The old development methodology wouldn't release a product for a few years which affects cash flow and means high initial internal development costs and QA testing. This method allows the niche market to pay for development of the product and management to focus on resource management. This does bring up some possibilities of bad faith development in some cases, but for niche products it's the only way to fund development.

Hi,

Does Maverick lock onto real white/black points or are still automatically locking onto real targets only (and see through grass etc)?

Also, in real MAV videos, the locking process is "smooth" - the cross doesn't immediately snap on the target but moves around searching first with some "fluidity". It'd be a nice touch if it's implemented in the future.

Mavs even on the Hornet are using the IR tech we have now, but once the new FLIR system is in place, the Hornet and anything else using it should improve greatly.

Not really answering my question but I will take it as a "Maybe" :D

Weapons in DCS either lock onto a target which is a unit (not a scenery object) or they use force correlate to lock onto a coordinate. It's got nothing to do with the imagery you see, but serves close to the same result with some limitations.
