@Rudel_chw Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I know I won't be able to use modules or mods released for a higher version. Like you, I'm prepared for this and it doesn't bother me. I have a similar situation with ETS2. 😉

@Hiob As I mentioned above, it's similar in ETS2. You can play earlier versions of the game with your favorite mods without using newer add-ons.

Just installed this and it looks great! Does anybody have a PDF of the NATOPS so I can start this thing up? Google has loads of false links.

Here is a video of its cold start, following the Natops checklists as much as possible:

It corresponds to the upcoming version 1.2, but should apply to older releases (minus the radio contact with the carrier).

Hi,

please do not share NATOPS links here

check out our 1.16  rule at the top of the forum

thank you

Oh, my bad. If you're not a military aviator, it's easy to forget these things are classified! 😅

Rule of thumb. Posting documents released pre 80s good, post 80s bad. Privately share documents, always good. 😉

Cheers!

fully agree, its just that the free use of terms like "stolen" rubs me the wrong way .. 😐

I fully agree on both sides of this topic. The only issue I have with the car bit is that, even though a company goes under and your particular car part cannot be procured anymore, you can still drive your car until it needs a part that would render it unusable. In the case of the T1 Hawk, it was simply taken away from those of us that purchased it, me being one of them. I believe ED tried to buy the rights to it from VEAO but they wouldn’t sell. The reason behind this, I guess we will never know. Yes, Rudel, stolen is a strong word that is probably not right in this context but many feel aggrieved that they cannot fly it anymore. I have tried downloading the earlier version of DCS to re-enter the T1 but I have had no success.

thanks for this topic. Interesting to get a few peoples views on it.

Actually, it was not taken away, I still have it registered within my licenses:

And it is still available on DCS as an AI aircraft:

However, if I actually wanted to fly it myself, I would need a DCS version 2.5.3 stored on my PC (which I don't have).

It wasn't a favorite aircraft of mine, so I didn't keep such a version on my disk, but for the three remaining Razbam modules that I own, I will be storing a copy of their last compatible DCS version, as I still intend to keep flying the Mirage 2000 and harrier at least (and just maybe, the MiG-19 too)

I also still have a licence for the hawk. I bought mine shortly before you in fact. If I could download Version 2.5.3 of DCS just so I could fly the T1, I would. Fortunately, as someone pointed out, we have the T-45 Goshawk, which is just as good. This aircraft has a special place for me seeing that I used to work on it that’s it.

the upcoming version 1.2 has a proper radio and so can communicate with the carrier in the same way as the f-18. Here is a recording I did while testing v1.2:

Thank you @Rudel_chw and @nibbylot and all the others that are working hard to update and bring this great training aircraft current for DCS!  Naval Aviation would just not be the same without it!!!

I enjoy the T-45 too, but the Hawk had the advantage that it could carry real weapons, including a Gun, while the Goshawk only has practice weapons and a "simulated" gun.

Hi all,

Has anybody had any luck landing on the carrier? I just tried the instant action in the Caucasus, chose one of the 'air' slots, but I can't seem to catch the wire. This has happened several times. I'm not sure if it's a bug, as I was on AoA at about 130 knots and the track shows that I should have caught it. I'm not sure if the carrier is a 'dummy' ship or something?

I reviewed your video, you are not aligned with the landing area centerline but rather centerline of the carrier, which is likely why its not catching the wire.  Try again and make sure you aligned with the landing area centerline. I am able to land on the carrier.

Nice, thanks DP, I'll give that a try. I've just been watching Top Guns: The Next Generation and it inspired me to give mod this a try!

Just a note from your vid and to add to DP SPaz's comment, you'll want to land along the angled deck (points out the left of the carrier) along the dashed yellow and grey line, and when you touch down on the deck, don't press the brakes, put the throttle to full power. If you miss you'll want to be able to lift off again, if you catch the hook, you'll stop, and can pull the power after. Kind of treat every carrier landing as a bolter and be happily surprised when you stop.
