Hi all, just joined the community (first post).

I have a quesrtion on the FA-18C updates:I cannot find the Litening Pod in the FA-18C load manager neither the new released Harpoon missile (they are not in the load list).

Is there anything I need to do in order to get these updates on my Hornet?(I thought updates were automatically loaded everytime DCS is launched...)

Running DCS 2.5.5

This could be a very silly question: pardon me I am new to DCS and the FA-18 :)

Thanks

You need to have the Open Beta install to get them. Otherwise you have to wait (usually) a week before you have them on the stable (your current version) Version.

Hi Loribo

Welcome to the forum.

The pod is only in the open beta version at the moment.

you can install it if you wish, it is the public test version of DCS

I see. You mean I can install the beta version on the same PC and load the same modules with no issues?

yes you can run both versions, they are independent of each other. all your modules will work with it

That, or better still, you can simply switch between them quite simply... hold my cosmo while I find the info how...it's around here on the forums.

EDIT: In the command prompt, go to your DCS install dir and go into the bin directory and then type: DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta

To change back to stable release type: DCS_updater.exe update @release

However, Hornet was abandoned for the F-16 ... We were assured that this is not the case :( .

Similar threads have been closed to silence dissatisfaction.

Only should it be this way?

I am very sad.

The Hornet has not been abandoned, no where does it say that, please do not make stuff up, that is what gets threads closed.

The Hornet has not stopped development, still work on going, updates to Harpoon systems are being tested internally, as well as development on systems for the Walleye, which will lead to the SLAM-ER and SLAM. A couple team members moved over to help with the last push out the door for the Viper, lets not play make believe and yell the sky is falling.

it's good to say it but we had guessed that the devellopement of the hornet slowed down due to viper. Even if only temporary.

Thank you for this transparency as late as it is

Shtaaaap with the drama. It hasn't been abandon and remember the mantra here in open beta "subject to change" We all know this. Just try to be a bit more flexible and support our niche hobby. No other developer is doing this on this scale.

It isn't late, the team members have just been moved and ED have been open and honest about moving them.

Work on the hornet continues with remaining team members.

Thanks

Indeed! if anything, I would think there are elements via the Bug, that might be assisting the Viper. (But I've never coded a simulator).;)

Very much so, they Hornet is making things like the Viper and the next big things easier to do, its all mutually beneficial, just in this case, we moved some manpower to meet the early autumn deadline we set for ourselves.

I cant say i like the approach followed by ED. I dont like how they have prioritzed the viper launch while it is so recent (it was announced this year!). What is exactly all this rush to have the viper out in Early october? So hard that you have to take the team working on the tgp and TWS to go help out with the F16? For me the more sensitive path would have been to develop the EA hornet something more closer to at least 70% (we are not even at 50% system wise) before commiting so much to a different module. There are so many things yet to implement with the hornet that im getting the impresion it will be more than 2 years from now to get it out of EA given how ED is always inmersed on new things.

Mmmm, lets see how will this turn out...

That's really appreciated that you are open and honest about all of that. Thank you, ED.

That being said, I like the idea of getting Viper out as planned as this will keep both modules in motion and will improve both as well.

I have recorded 175 hours in Hornet so far, and I am still learning and polishing skills. The steady progress of Hornet development brings new features, systems and weapons at a pace that is easy to work with time-wise.

Thanks again.

You must have a great problem with reading comprehension!

Try to read the information again very, very slowly.

So we fail if we don't make new modules fast enough, then we try to do better and now we are making them too fast? Not sure I know what to think. New modules are not only important for keeping the lights on, but they bring in new users, the push new advancements in developing even newer modules. It wont be long and we will see the release of another WWII module. People want new stuff, and we want to balance that with development of current modules and the core.

We wanted to be honest, and say that for a short time we were assigning a couple from the Hornet team to help out on the Viper. Again its not the end of the world... things are still proceeding as planned.

Ugh..... Rough having to reallocate resources from an unfinished project/product, over to a soon to be released project/product - but if the work being reallocated to the Viper can be directly transferred back to the Hornet - then that is somewhat acceptable. That would be a direct issue that a smaller company has, compared to a larger company. I can appreciate the transparency in the announcement of those shifts in labor at least.

Don't worry about it! Everything is going on, and the development of F/A18 is not stagnating. There is no substitute for another to become the focus of development, nor is there "stimulated by a module, forced to accelerate progress". Other development teams have their own plans, and ED development teams also have their own plans. They don't interfere with each other. Mobilizing some members of F/A18C to F16C is just a normal staff transfer. I don't understand why it is annoying and disturbing to mobilize more people to join the development of F16 so that it can be released as scheduled as possible. We should all have enough mental preparation when we first buy. "EA stage, the time may be very long." I have to admit frankly that the development time of Rhubarb Peak is beyond the endurance limit of many people, including me. I do regret buying EA products. And in the future, keep your head clear and stop buying EA products. But one thing we have to understand! The purchase of F/A18C has become a fact. It's our choice. No one has fooled us into buying it. So there is no reason to complain. Now, we need and must trust them. All modules will be completed in the future.
