Thanks for the heads-up, it's nice to know in advance something like this has to be updated as well this time.

Anyone tried to see how it affects with the new patch?

 

Only thing changed are normals which is now reversed if you use the mod. I will update this by tomorrow. There will be another set however. One for stable and one for OB.

Updated to V5 for Open Beta 2.5.6.57264 (2020-11-04)

Only fixed for compatibility but changed the version number to reduce confusion.

 

Stable still need to use V4.

 

A lot of versions but guess we'll have to deal with it until Stable catches up to OB.

Just FYI to anyone using Kegetys VR Shader mod. ED fixed the flipped tree normals on distant trees with yesterday's update. But they fixed it in code. And apparently a file in Kegetys mod is overwriting that fix so if you use Kegetys VR shader mod, it will undo ED's fix. Making distant trees shading backwards again.

 

I will take a closer look at Kegetys files to see which one is causing the issue but for now, if you are using his mod, you should use BetterTrees V4.

Hey Taz,

 

Just reporting that there seems to be an issue in the latest V5 version for open beta. at some distance the trees LOD have the bilboard shadow on the wrong side.

Mustang's Shader mod or terrain mod? Or CGTC could be broken too.

This mod V5 works with latest OB. Issue is another mod of yours is doing it. Try removing other mods and only try with V5.

 

Just the shader mod. The first screenshot is vanilla DCS with better trees mod. Just to be sure, I'll download the mod and check again

Ive got a question not directly related to this excellent work but which I hoping someone cleverer than I can answer. 

 

I recently established that removing the file "shrub.ref" from the terrains/surface detail folder enables me to use default shadows even when flying low in the heavily forested mountains of the caucuses map. Whilst the net effect is a slightly sparser forest floor Im quite happy to live with that given the overall improvement. 

 

What i wondered however is does each tree have its own command in terms of shadow use and could it be turned off for just one item? Where Im going with is that the shrubs clearly push up the demand on the cpu/gpu a lot with default shadows turned on but are largely used under the canopy of larger trees. They do a nice job in covering an otherwise too light surface but possibly dont really need their own shadows to give a decent effect in such circumstances.

 

Any insight or even a straight "er....no" would be welcome.
