Hey folks,

I pre-purchased this map ages ago so was super excited. Just ran it for the first time and is it just me or does it run just awful? I've not had any such issues on other maps but the choppy fps on this one are just terrible. Only if you're up high does it start to run smoothly. And occasionally even low down it's smooth but majority of time it's just bad. Even starting on more desert'y airfields where you wouldn't expect any major fps hit it still feels a bit lggy or stuttery Old maps still work no problem. Hmmm...

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

GTX 2080 Super

64GB RAM 4200MHz

evo 970 2TB SSD

Like I say - no issues with other maps but this one is unplayable using same settings as I use elsewhere.

Anybody else with a similar issue?

Adjust the settings then ..

That's not really a valid solution is it. A similar answer would be - buy a NASA super computer to run the Syria map...

Change terrain object shadows from default to flat, turn of SSLR and SSAA. Rest settings to full details.

Nothing wrong with tweaking settings to make a new, highly detailed map run a little smoother, OP. :)

No more than using a one-setting-fits-all philosophy .. :music_whistling:

Did a quick mission build multiplayer with several SA 10'S, the super carrier and some static end mission triggers with a friend and all was well. Ran smooth. The renaming of assets threw me off though. Will see how well moose plays with that. All I did after install was the fxo and metashaders2 delete then a repair. Ran the mission once after completing then hosted it up.

That philosophy worked quite well, however, with all maps until Channel one was released.

But it is what it is. I'd say it's time to make a good use of these recently added "preset" buttons in system screen to switch settings quickly depending on map to be played on.

The problem is you're asking for a big drop in quality to run something that should already run well on a really good rig. That's my problem. And it's clearly not just because it's a "good quality map" - there is no reason for why my fps needs to be so low on a desert airfield. It's clearly pointing to poor optimization?? I also noticed that changing the tree draw distance has no effect, at least while parked on the ground.

Changing shadows to flat is not really a fair compromise. It just makes everything looks so much worse. I'm also not keen on decreasing anti-aliasing.

I also find it strange that periodically it starts to work really silky smooth even though the complexity of the scenery is just as much as it was... then goes back to being slow and choppy again... there's clearly some sort of issue here that is not just due to the "detail".

My 2 cents.

Map runs great for what it is IMO.

I'm in VR on a reverb, and really most of the map in the weeds is running at worst (downtown damascus) in the 20's, which isn't great, but doable in a KA50 or other helo. Otherwise, low level in the weeds strike stuff in other parts of the map is like 30-45. You pull up to alt its in 60's for me. Moderately high settings for me with like 150% steam SS. Overall I think map runs pretty good all things considered. I might turn down some stuff, but my defaults work fairly well.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Read elsewhere lowering terrain textures helps. The reality is theres never been a new map running well on day one. Might take a while to optimize so adjusting settings all you can do.

I'm still on Rift and ... no more PD 2.0:( had to to back down to 1.7 and vis. high. No AA.

Still looks descent. Everything else maxed. I still see minor stutter but not as much as with PD 2.0 and Extreme vis.

I was running Syria tonight.

I did find that reducing my Pre-load radius from 100% to circa 50% made a big improvement in smoothness, if not frame rate. My frame was simply limited by my GPU.

On a positive note, it's the first time I've seen RAM usage of 34GB, so I'm feeling a bit more smug about future proofing the ram in my PC.

7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Reducing pre-load radius definitely helped! Now it's mostly just around airfields where it seems like there's a lack of smoothness. At least flying around now is smooth. Thanks for that!

Still definitely feels like it needs optimizing. There's low fps in places where you just don't think there should be.

Bizare !

It's almost like it's not quite finished ... !

Like maybe, rather than selling it as a finished product, they should be just selling it as early access to people that are interested in helping optimise it prior to it being declared 'finished'.

Edit:

All the maps have been 'under-optimised' at release, even the various iterations of the Caucus' map.

That has had shocking pop-up at various stages.

It's good to report issues (like stutter or poor frame rates), it's not helpful to bag the product that was plainly labelled as unfinished.

I'm running DCS on pretty much the highest settings with the following PC build and have very smooth FPS both on the ground and in the air:

i9-9900k

2080Ti

32GB RAM

DCS on a dedicated M.2 SSD

Have you tried deleting your FXO and Metashaders(2) folders from SavedGames?

Appears to be very memory hungry. I was at 27GB of RAM usage with Syria and the F-14B and Supercarrier.

EDIT: 21GB without Supercarrier (Instant action: Dissimilar - I tried to use guns but had to use a sidewinder to take one down and as I was going after the other F-16, it ran out of fuel and crashed before I could use my guns on it).

Something weird happened with that one where my HUD and VDI were off about 30 degrees though my backup gauge showed level. I ignored it and landed at Incirlik.

EDIT2: 26GB on the Instant Action F-15 duel. Landed at Haifa without issues.

One of those threads where someone wants to show off his specs, demands great frames with supersampling or some other ridiculous setting.

Haven't seen any issues. Don't know if that's the machine or the settings, but on paper my machine is probably slower than yours.

In the weeds or up high, frame rates are more than fine.

I'd noticed this too that it'll use a lot of RAM if you've got it. I'm on a 32GB system as well and total system usage was getting well into the 20's. All lovely and smooth though.

Anybody else with a similar issue?

I had similar issue but after i set Terrain Textures to Low and reduced Preload Radius to 100000 Syria map works smoothly now.

Seems map is not optimized but yes is very detailed, so low textures on high detailed map are not big difference regarding to quality.
