As I understand it, the "two weeks" meme got started after ED promised the community something a long time ago (I don't recall exactly what) in, you guessed it, two weeks. By their own admission, they opened an enormous can of worms and paid for their mistake. Hence, the sardonic response anytime someone asks for an ETA. Can't pretend fly as well as you can.
