SSAO = off

In my case, it is a 1.4ms negative impact on my GPU frametime for very little difference in image quality.  Even in pancake mode it does not make a significant difference in visual improvement for me.

Hey guys, this is reported internally and already some tweaks and fixes being checked, I will leave this open for any more data and examples as well as for when fixes come through. 

Edit: looks like we are testing a new option to turn off flat shadow softening.

Ok, thank you for good info but does it mean that flat shadow will be present in 2.7 style or something like this? We need flat shadows (in 2.7 they looked ok) but with 2.7 performance :). Without flat shadow the terrain looks a little without deep. Too flat.

@YoYoare you in VR ? Since the update mine automatically starts with OpenXR, even I never configured it that way. My stable still starts with SteamVR

I doubt they would change something like this without mentioning it in the logs but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did

Yes and No.  We now have native OpenXR support in the latest OB.  I gained quite a bit with about 1ms in GPU frametime and 1.3ms in CPU frametime.   Of course, results vary depending on your particular hardware.

I was just wondering when i can play again, it's been months now. Is there any news regarding the multicore and api thing ?

We should have an option for non-blurred flat shadows coming soon that should help with this issue, as well MT is on its way soon and should help as well.

Hey folks, 

I'm not sure if my problem is related to this or not but I also noticed significant FPS drops. One of the most notable is 3D grass which I never had any problems with at all. Always had the slider up to max and enjoyed a totally stutter free experience. Now with the slider even set to 30% there's a significant loss in fps and stutters (when the grass is in close proximity). I tried turning down the shadows from medium to low and secondary shadows off but it seems to have had no effect. Really quite upset with this now 😕

Also I'm definitely getting loss in performance over dense areas such as Incerlik, where again I had absolutely no issues with the same settings before! Really hoping this gets resolved soon!

Did you test it? 
Todays OB patch:

  • Fixed excessive amount of triangles and objects when terrain objects shadows set to FLAT/OFF
  • Settings. Add item for Blur Flat Shadows to graphics options

Tested (SC still). According me .... I dont see performance like it was in 2.7 still after the Today's patch.

Terrain shadows: Flat.

What do you think?

For me, the terrain shadows performance issue seems to be fixed. I am also running flat. Can't say if it is 2.7 levels, but I don't notice a 10-15FPS drop with them enabled now.

Its better with MT version, but not the same performance like = OFF.

Shadows settings has almost no impact on performance in MT mode. It seems to be fixed.
