Wait, are those assets going to be part of this pack? (The Rockets and other items next to the helos?) Sorry I have not seen those before..

Some of the pics (last little bird e.g.), you really can’t tell from reality!

Awesome artwork guys! 🫡

Insane work my friends! And what a tribute to the gents who where part of Mogadishu! Gladly throw some cash your way when this gets released on GitHub! I cannot recommend to the community enough watching the following 2 Shawn Ryan episodes (broken up into 2) discussing the Blackhawk Down conflict with one of the Delta Operators.  Hands down the best interview I have scene on the Army Special Warfare community and hell of a lot more gripping than the Movie.  The second episode goes into Mogadishu.  Worth a listen while you are able to listen, I promise you will get sucked in.

Just ask for 60$ in early access and it will be the best deal DCS has had for years! You are the one and only devs who understand, that DCS is not about modules or maps. It is about all the assets needed to create immersive missions and campaigns.

@tobi @Eight Ball Is it theoretically possible to animate the soldiers getting on/off the chopper (even if the W&B remains unchanged)? Or is this just not something DCS would allow at this point?

Just thinking how amazing it would be if we could actually come and extract a bunch of Delta Force guys from a hotspot somewhere.

DCS is just crying out for some better infantry mechanics for something like this! Obviously that's on ED to improve.

Either way this looks absolutely fantastic! I'm on 100 hours of OH-6 flight time already! 😄

Unfortunately, such practices are prohibited. ED is quite strict about all forms of payment, especially paid "mods", in short you can't earn money on unofficial mods. The "donation" option is something else, but it means that the mod must be made available for free, but someone can support it according to their wishes.

However, I agree with the fact that if Little Bird could be a paid add-on, then maybe they should reach an agreement with ED or some company, e.g. PC or Miletch and release it simply as a paid add-on. However, the price you propose would be too high.. Little Bird is a simple bird. So it can't cost as much or near as OH-58D or CH-47F (69). In this respect, it can be compared to UH-1, the regular price of which is less than $50. EA for $39 (with the asset) would be ideal, so. I wouldn't mind it, especially if it was modified with a full developer SDK, complete with animated and usable crew (and his M4!).

The biggest problem with getting official is licensing, then ED policy to use only official documentation. And I don't agree that it can't cost as much as Kiowa or Chinook, especially when mods come with such a great selection of additional assets. With the official "not simple" modules you get half cooked aircrafts with just a promise of possible completion in following years. I would rather pay for simple mod and bunch of assets 🙂

I need to pick my words carefully and it's late but, before the convo moves on, a thought:

Is the OH6 seriously good, and seriously good fun? Absolutely!

Is it as good as some paid modules in some regards? Yeah, we all think it is.

Is it then as good as paid modules should be? Well, this is where opinions will likely differ, but I'd say not...almost by definition.

The OH6 is the rotary community module, as the A4 is for fixed wing. If they set the bar for what can be achieved by/with/for the DCS community, how much more should we expect from commercial developers?

I'd rather we use the undoubted quality of these mods to drive the whole ecosystem forward, than use the somewhat lacklustre level of gerneric paid modules as some kind of high water mark. The OH6, made with extreme talent, a lot of work, and tons of generosity, goes to show how much more we should expect from guys who do this for a living, day in day out. Shame on ED, forza Team Loach.

Per ardua ad astra!

PS. Anyone know where a crowdfundong campaign sits in this scheme? Say I wanted a certain aircraft, could I start a crowd funding campaign to pay devs if it's 'only' ever to be a community module? This is all tricky territory, I know, but interesting.

PPS. Since you asked...Westland Lynx Mk.7 - got the looks, more uses than a Huey in DCS, but fast as sh't off a shiny shovel and properly fully acrobatic! Given the OH6 team's proven ability with flight dynamics it could be a great fit ;)

Couple of things..

1. If you all guys saw the going price for old toyota technicals on Craigslist and ebay you'd stop blowing them up and steal them.

2. I'm dying to fly this helicopter. The OH-6 is BY FAR the most fun aircraft I flown in DCS and my only frustration with it is how lightly armed it is. Having dual rocket pods AND miniguns?!? Im like a kid at Christmas. The AH-6 is my red rider BB gun

You heard me ask telepathically as well as yesterday, before I’d read this. Being in possession of such pre-empitive and clairvoyant powers should deserve you your Westland wish granted. I wouldn’t mind one either.

I’m sure I saw a pair of those do a loop at Biggin years ago? They had a pretty good helicopter display team with a few different types so I might’ve misremembered but I think they were Lynxes.

Regarding the pay debate, I’d add that part of what makes this special for me is that it came without a price-tag. That it came from an altruistic place makes me like it all the more and I happily made a donation as soon as I realised how decent a job they’d made of it. Also, the attention and ‘support’ the OH-6 gets is second to none. Admittedly, easier to keep on top of a single module than a whole hangar-full but still, an appreciated privilege.

I hope plenty of us have bunged the lads a few quid so they earn some beer tokens out of doing it. I hope they get a buzz from knowing how much fun so many of us are getting from it too. Like I said, it’s getting better and better all the time and I’m chuffed to see the whole ever increasing package.

Again, well done lads, thanks a lot and with all that said, let’s all get blasted now, cos it’s CHRISSSSSTTTTMAAAAASSSSSSS! 🎅

Have yourselves a lovely lag-free Christmas time 🙂.

Merry Christmas Gents! @tobi @Eight Ball Really appreciate everything you have done for the community this year and what you plan on contributing in 2025.  You have far exceeded what I ever expected out of a mod maker that provides free content to their community.  You guys are stellar and all the hard work is beyond appreciated.  Look forward to your future content.  Happy New Year a little early!

Not sure if it was reported or not but the Vietcong units that come with the Vietnam Asset pack are a bit... super uber.... they fire at ridiculous range and their shells are heavy tungsten or something. One day I was strolling around in my Ka-50 and one of those shells lobed at me at something like 5 km and torn my helicopter apart. I was like... quickly floored 😄 .

@zaelu it indeed seems there is one AA unit in there having some ridiculous power. Is vap_vc_zis_aa.lua (VC Zis 150 AAA) ... maybe you can confirm.

In config i found is having a max range for about 7 km (slightly too much) . It is also a 57mm gun using 53-UOR-281U ammunition. Checking for some data on the net it indeed have a range of about 4-6km... and is a HE round. That makes one round it quite lethal if hits your heli.

Munition, cannon, 53-UOR-281U | Fenix Insight

Based on the above, the main open query is more related to its precision... that might be tuned down from the experience level of the unit maybe.

@Abburo Wow, good to know.  I will stay further away from now 😄 . Thanks for the info. Yes the VC Zis 150 AAA was the culprit.

I must say I wasn't really caring about it as I thought it just some jungle truck with "some 23mm double cannon" or less. Accuracy is maybe a little too good for "average skill level" it was set. I will do some more tests on the maximum range. I was at around 800m altitude but can't remember the exact distance so maybe they are withing acceptable range or maybe slightly over and accuracy should decrease at such range significantly.

Anyway it doesn't look laser aiming but just very lucky with some of the shells.
Thanks and regards!
