All that and more sounds good to me 🙂.

The things I’ve seen done with one at airshows makes the toes curl. Be good to try some out myself.

I’m keeping my hands in my pockets for a bit though. See how it all pans out.

indeed.

What would be epic is if it included the following functions:

  • Ability to load up weapons for transfer of items that affects warehousing.

  • Ability to drive 'player drivable' vehicles in and out.

  • Ability to load nearby non-player drivable cars in and out using menu. (With animation)

  • Ability to load and unload troops, both by ramp on ground, as well as repelling by air (with animations)

  • The ability to use as a mobile FARP. (Refuel & rearm) - with mission editor options as to whether it deploys as a full farp with unlimited weapon and fuel quantities, or only the warehouse quantity that it first flew with and/or what other logistic units carry there to add.

  • The ability to fly it to a destination, unload a player drivable vehicle, and then switch to and drive that vehicle around using CA, and then later return as pilot to the Chinook at a later time.

  • The ability to fly it to a destination, and then spawn into another aircraft separately with the Chinook remaining at it's current location as a milk cow. (And ability to spawn back into it at a later date and re-take control of Chinook)

  • The ability to act as a dynamic spawn point (FARP) for other players to spawn aircraft in at the location that it sets up as a FARP. (Dynamic / portable spawn location).

Some of those I see as likely, others I see as maybe, and others I think I'm fantasizing about, but would still be epic to have.

Spot on and a great post, this should read as a feature list to what the Hook can do when released, although this is core game play it would help us buy it, this would be perfect also for UH1H and Mi8 with limited ability for the Mi24

I dream big. 😉

As a simmer (and pilot) - I really appreciate the realistic full fidelity flight models of the aircraft in DCS (over something like WT).

As someone who enjoys 'game play' too - I have enjoyed some servers where there is an ongoing 24x7 campaign where CTLD has as much of an affect on progress as what blowing stuff up does.

Honestly - this is where DCS has more potential than anything else I've ever come close to. Sim along with game play 'in one'.

The potential the CH-47 and C-130 have to bring to DCS is huge. My 'wish list' above are the things that I simply have wished for in the past while coding scripts, creating missions or simply playing DCS. I know I'm dreaming, but I kinda hope that some on the 'inside' at ED have had similar thoughts and have considered some of these points as viable and worthy development opportunities too.

I guess you could say I dream big, or I dream 'onwards and upwards'.  😉

This is exactly how I play on our DCSNZA servers, our group have been running the excellent Pretense and Foothold missions with CTLD for well on 3 years now. but just looking at the game as a whole, it's a pretty amazing achievement. I think it runs great and looks good. But it's lacking engaging features, this is where ED needs to step up and add loads of much needed core features to the game  so the mission designers and scripters can make the game part of the simulation must more fun and easy to achieve.

I am so grateful the community has made workarounds for a lot of the pitfalls of DCS.

that's what I'm curious about as well. How far does it feel different to fly a tandem rotor. I assume the controls are adapted, so that the usual pitch, roll, yaw and collective works "as expected". But how does it feel?

Also - sitting right in front of the cockpit with 50 ft of helicopter dragging behind you, is certainly different than yanking around a Huey or Gazelle. 😅

As far as I know that other flight sim. Won't let you land troops on the roof of a building while machine gun fire and RPGs come towards you.

You call these stuttering enteties moving as smooth as a jammed robot "troops"? realy? And you cannot land "troops" on a rooftop in DCS. What you can do is land on a rooftop and let some troops spawn there from a imaginary inventory created by a script. I have never seen troops in DCS disembarking from a helicopter (means realy sitting inside, open the side door, jump out animated and do a 360), all i have seen is troops spawning out of nowhere.

Nevertheless. The "other" flight sim can't do any of that.

Also, a little bit of imagination capability always helped with immersion in computer-(games).

DCS can´t do either. It is only possible with a 3rd party script. It´s like saying RDR2 is a VR game just because there is a VR mod available for it.

A "little bit" imagination would be enough for the disembarking animations in ARMA3 and even these are more than servicable. For this case in DCS, you´ll need more like LSD based hallucinations...

I am very much interested in the CH-47, but I won´t preorder.
I am going to wait and see if/what changes will be made to the logistics side and combined arms, like embarking infantry, using the Chinook as a FARP, etc.
At the very least, I´ll wait for a full list of features that come with the early access.

Gosh, I sure hope not.  No offense, but I don't think most of the people around here are that good at driving.

I'll let the load masters handle that part and take over once the vehicle is back on solid ground.  Would like to watch it happen...once.  It's a bit like watching paint dry from what I've seen in videos.  Sit around for half an hour while they drive at glacial speeds, then tie everything down...

To tell the truth, preordering a digital product is quite illogical IMHO: it does not run out of supply, and if you are in a hurry you can always buy on day 1.

You are optimist. I'm saving for a 5090 hoping to run my quest 3 100% on ultra settings and with zero stutters.

Practice makes perfect.

Who knows... before long we might have a "Night Rider" type extract on the fly with a Chinook. That would look cool. 🙂

Yea, preorder made sense with hardware and physical media, where there was a finite supply, and people couldn't bear to wait longer than day 1 to get the goods.

It's dumb with software, but this can be an expensive hobby, and I prefer to save wherever I can

What is it. 30% off for pre-order, and 20% off for early-access? (meaning 10% difference between pre-order and early access).

For me personally, that 10% isn't as worth much as people's real life reviews after it's first released, but if it was - I guess pre-purchase a couple of days before release would make more sense than pre-purchasing as soon as it's announced.

But I get that excitement, hype, etc has people saying "Take my money now". 😏

That 10% , or $7, doesn't amount to much these days, but I see no reason to leave that on the table for a product that I know I'll buy., as I have with every other module, map , and most SP campaigns

Anyone who knows me knows there's absolutely no hype, or even FOMO involved in the purchase. Just doing what I enjoy, and it doesn't bother me to have missing features at launch, or even for an extended period after - if I'm not enjoying it, there's always something else to fly, and I can always come back later

This pretty much echos how I feel, 20 years ago pre-order made sense not anymore

And lets be honest the track record of certain companies for actually delivering what was "promised" has never been great

So I will sit out the ch47 and new new Afghanistan map until we can make an informed decision on what our hard earned coin will get us
