you have it all wrong, no idea where you are getting your information from.

Discord, Facebook, X.

BD wrote he was going to send the campaign in April on his Discord, there was a post about a release in May on his Facebook, and again an update that the campaign release had been postponed again for a June release. Latest news was July 3rd.

I can only go from what I read. Don't want to get BD in hot water, either.

So, what is the status then. I'd be happy for some information from you regarding what is correct. Believe it or not, my mission is not to spread "misinformation", but simply would like to enjoy the product you provide.

Thanks.

Here's an idea, delay the patch all you like but.

Why not just release the Afghanistan module, now.

It should be standalone as all modules are, you have paid customers waiting for it, these customers would get it a week late still but they would at least get it and be happy.

The F-4E, Kola, Kiowa all released sort of on there own but you add in small fixes, so it can be done.

The Afghanistan module could come out now, just release that, break it away from this big patch/noose around your neck.

Because afghan depends on some new feature in core version and merging is non trivial and can introduce new bugs. Be patient.

Don't think this is possible. Old build with new terrain....

We know these delays are disappointing and we are sorry for them, but if we find issues that can not be fixed in time it would not be right to push the issue out to you folks. Delaying is the best option.

thank you

I totally agree with you. But I remember a time when the public beta got updated every two weeks (that's where the "two weeks" meme has its origin). With all our agreements you changed that interval to monthly updates so that you have enough time to do some thorough testing of the new version. So I would suggest putting fewer new features and content in every new update, but instead use the time, we willingly give you, to provide us with stable updates in time as you promise.

I dropped an entire storage tray of programs for a run once and the operator had a heart attack. I told him that it was too much to sort so I ran the puncher for everything again. $$$ but it was a multi-billion dollar corp, so...
That was on an NCR Criterion (six drives for 200 MB disk packs with heads in the pack), Cobol. Key to disk for data but cards for programs. Go figure.
IBM 360, 370, 4341, Cobol, Fortran (not used, but I taught it at university) , Assembler (16 bit instruction set??? I forget) and RPGIII. CICS, JCL... lots of forgotten memories...
I never was exposed to PL1. Basic (several versions), various 8 bit processor assemblers, a COBOL (!) compiler for a TRS-80, RPG II & III, Pascal and C/C+ and C++ were not invented yet. Oh, and LISP. There's another one I coded in but I forget because it was not very popular.

Sorry for the distraction. You all please continue.

...and in that exact post(s) he mentioned, he now has time to UPDATE the missions with the new assets.

I guess that means he worked on the campaigns, added maybe a bit more than just a tent here and there and put the results into the branch for the current patch?

And that's where he and the campaign  testers likely tested the triggers work, the AI buddies don't kill you on taxiways, etc.

How do you know the terrain engine is being changed that the build we got 5 weeks ago with Kola wouldn't support Afghanistan...your comment doesn't make sense to me

Is this just a guess or do you 100% know that because if you do you have insider knowledge.

The community is hilarious,
No News/Announcements wasn't well received,

So ED started tentatively announcing things, and then whenever there is a delay, people say to just stop announcing things.
it's like going full circle.

Does someone wanna go through the last year of patch announcements and count how many were delayed, bet it's under 10%.

I've seen the Post by Chizh that leads one to believe this, and I'm pretty sure everyone is missing context and mis-interpreting his post,

ED may not have any competition, but there sure is a long trail of dead sim bodies on the way here, be grateful they never chucked it in like the rest.

Public beta with such a quick patch cycle isnt possible now, DCS has grown way to big and it is very complex.

Beta or stable in this case it does not matter it would have been delayed.

thank you

You know ED maybe it would help if  you put some context on the patch delay, I see stuff like this pop up and you sit there and go so its the biggest patch ever possible, what does that mean, what does it include other than what we know, I feel you are a bit too secretive with information and most of us here find stuff out from little snippets like the below screen shot.

And I know you will say you cant release patch notes as things may change but I'm pretty sure you have some indication of what was coming with 2-3 hrs of pulling it, why wait for a news letter tomorrow just to tell everyone its delayed, we already know that information.

You pretty much need to watch your Discord channel now 24/7 to get snippets on what's coming.

Id rather have the delay to fix bugs, but some clarity would go a long way to fixing your some what tarnished reputation in the wider community with this years dramas that have unfolded for you.

My .2 Cents worth,

No option, but to wait... safely released software and working, is my favorite kind of waiting...In the mean time; I will build my Sim-Fab Rotor style seat.

shameless plug...

I seen lots of seats at the Flight Sim Expo, and this one is the best so far, highly modular..

The problem is that whenever any information is released, it's picked over by bored nerds and armchair programmers and used as ammunition for further criticisms.  Pick any reason they could give for the patch to have been delayed, and you could come up with some reason why that shouldn't have been a problem, or why they shouldn't have had that error in the first place, or why they should have done something different instead, etc.  Short of actually sitting down with one of the programmers and having them walk you through the code line by line (which you're not going to understand anyway), at some point you are simply going to have to accept them at their word that there has been a delay, and the exact reason doesn't matter, because you knowing the reason isn't going to get the patch released any faster.

I can safely speak for me and BN, we DO NOT enjoy drama... at all.

Then maybe you are as frustrated by the failure to make release dates as the community is currently. As mentioned a number of times already, maybe it's time for a different approach towards publishing release dates, because the current approach is wearing people's patience very thin, and leading to the drama that nobody enjoys.

So, definitely not going to take the time to read through all the drama that this has caused, but I will second the motion of stop announcing a date you’re going to release something until it’s ready to go.

I like a lot of people am a heavy mod user in my personal use of the system, so when getting ready for an update, I disable all my mods and update on a clean install.  The process to reenable them takes hours.  So, now that I disabled them all this morning, prior to this thread being posted…well, you know where I’m going.

Lesson learned though, next time I won’t disable everything until I know that the update/patch is live.

How about you get your patch or update, or product ready to be released and then announce that it will be released in 72 hrs…

That sounds disturbingly close to commonsense...

I have the feeling they reacted to the Razbam drama by overpromising a lot of stuff, like saying "we're here, all is good, check all these coming things". And now reality has catched up.

Nothing wrong with a delay to improve things, but failing deadlines over and over again makes you look like a bunch of amateurs.

At the risk of getting myself another 40pts for sharing my opinion I’d like to know where we’re supposed to be getting ‘official’ news on everything?

I don’t use discord, never had a FB or Twitter account but I have paid a fair few quid on DCS. I’d have thought this would be the place to go?

I’m not bothered about waiting for updates or whatever so long as they’re dealt with better. Setting dates and making a big deal of it is setting yourselves up for all the nonsense. Having to go hunting to find out what’s happening isn’t what I wanna be doing so I don’t, I come here.

Thanks to everyone for reading, apologies if anyone feels offended or upset and I wish everyone all the very best.
