Yeah the text is quite small, it was absolutely necessary for me to export them to my second monitor.

I might have to look into an MFD peripheral just for this. It absolutely sucks that VSD mode can't be full screen.

If you're using VR trying enabling/adjusting your IPD value in settings. I had to enable mine to 55.

There was a "fix" for the HUD compass numbers in the F1 that made them more readable via Lua script. Maybe there is another way to do this in the Chinook, but would be more desirable to include a parameter in the special options menus. Something to not break the lines. this is needed for VR.

Hey,

is it just me or are the numbers and values in the MFDs barely readable. I have to zoom in everytime to read them properly.

Yes, that is on my list as well! I have to zoom in!!!  I do use VR too but not good idea to shove my face forward with VR on..

the performance is set really tight on my computer i cannot move any numbers in settings with wrecking my performance which took a zillion hours to tune.

Readability of the A-10 MFCDs declined when SRGB space was enabled some years back. Chizh confirmed at the time that it was part of the MFD refresh to make things look better.

I don't yet own the Chinook so I can't dig into the LUA files for the displays, but I wonder if this is also an SRGB thing. Anybody here that owns the Chinook can test this theory by using Visual Studio Code to do a global find all on any LUA in the Chinook directory (maybe see if there's a Cockpit/Scripts directory in the Chinook install path). The text you're looking for should be 'srgb' or 'input_space_SRGB'. If it exists, change it to false and see if that improves readability - though this will be at the cost of the Integrity Check preventing you from joining servers.

Does anybody have a picture of what the MFDs currently look like to demonstrate the problem?

Please do ping me if that is indeed the case as I'm now curious.

I've seen this come up a lot. First, no you can not run the VSD in full screen for those wondering. Second, keep in mind that this is a sim and you're looking at a screen within a screen. IRL, these MFDs are huge and extremely easy to read. I've been solving this issue by zooming in. I have no issues on my 49" Ultrawide seeing any important information on the MFDs. Your sight picture is generally just going to be straight ahead and outside, and you're going to SCAN the MFDs in front of you. Zooming in in the sim will accomplish this and you'll be able to read information on the MFDs just fine. You don't need to see the whole dash from one seat. Hope this helps!

Edit: Attached a picture for reference. What's within the red box is what your eye is going to focus on based on how far away you sit from the dash. The rest of the MFDs and cockpit area are part of your scan, ie. move your head around. Not necessarily what you're focused on in flight at all times. Zoom in and look outside!

If there is anything we can do to improve this down the road we will see. But yes, right now it's correct.

Hi Nineline, I wear glasses, I'm an RAF Pensioner and at 68 it's not going to get any better. Can I suggest a remedy for this. IMHO if we have a software fix to be able to select instrument information on the main flying screen, the same as we see in F2 view it would help a lot. Being selectable, us oldies/visually challenged, can put that in, and no other players are affected.

There may be many reason's this is not possible, but I thought I'd ask.

As I was told many times in the RAF, If you find an problem, then offer a solution, 9 times out of 10 the Grown ups will go along with it....then take the credit. LOL

You can bring up that F2 status bar in cockpit view

LCTRL+Y

Multiplayer servers have the option to disable it however. Or if you're doing SP missions, in the mission editor it is in the options menu (The Tick button on the left side panel)
then the Overlays options from the bottom of the menu that opens on the right "Cockpit status bar".

If the Enforce check box on the left is not checked, then you can have it on or off.
If the Enforce box IS checked, then the right "value" box must also be checked.

There is also a option in SETTINGS > MISC

Cockpit status bar, bottom right of the page. If you check it, the status bar will be shown by default (unless prohibited)

cheers

You could always set up snap views, it's fairly straight forward. You can set views to be zoomed in on panels using the numeric keypad and either use it in quick look mode just to view info on screen or switch to toggle if you need to do stuff.

Few details on this page, expect DCS has got some info on it in the forums or help section but this is the basics, just need to look at "Default Keybindings" and "Custom Snapviews" part. I would expalin it myself but just in from work and want to go to bed

https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Cockpit_Views

If you do play about with Snap Views before you start copy the file "SnapViews.lua" to another folder then if anything goes wrong you can just put the original back.

This file is in your Saved Games folder, if you know where it is fine but if not just type %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games into the Windows Run Command Box and it will open up Saved Games, or use Windows Search on the taskbar and open the folder, it will open Saved Games and you can just select DCS. You will need to go to the following folder:

Saved Games/DCS/Config/View and the "SnapViews.lua" file is in there. You can just right click and copy the right click and paste it into another folder on out of DCS.

Jonsky7, Thats a very workable solution for me, Thank you

HI TKHaos.

Thank you for the excellent explanation, that may be the way to go. Will read the blurb you have linked me too, and definately back up the LUA file. Will keep you posted, THANK YOU for your suggestion. I may be slow doing this got a hospital week coming up.

Yea, I thought I was the only one with this issue, I cannot accurately see the VSI when descending, by the time it is large enough for me to see I am descending way to fast. is there a way to put a MFD page on a second monitor and enlarge it that way? or a mod to make the VSI a + or - decimal number text large enough to see would work.

Try out Helios. It will write patches for exports of all the displays, and help you write a monitor file for easy exports to a second monitor, and size the exports however you want. As long as there's enough physical space that is. 😉

Here's what you can do with Helios.   Each of the monitors are about £70 ($90) each.   Added bonus is they are touch screen, so all the buttons around the MFD actually work by pressing them.   Makes flying the CH47 so much easier and it was all down to the OP's point about not being able to easily read them in the cockpit.
