Are Edge and the rendering system two different things?

Looking really good.

Afaik no, it is the same (at least for all that concerns us as customers)

When you try and play any battle that big, the game lags severely, and sometimes crashes

Okay, you are right. I made a similar looking battle in DCS and it was a bit laggy. Maybe that will improve with EDGE, but one thing to remember is that the other game is an RTS, so it probably cheats a bit more with the combat calculations. e.g. using statistics instead of simulating every bullet. (also, all of those vehicle models were lower res)

HOLY SH***!

The second pic ... that is the curvature of the earth that we see there, right!?

Looks curved to me! Let's hope so =)

Curvature looks cool. Will be interesting if it means you have a x-plane style world map which can be populated by individual regions. I guess the clouds covering the whole sky is still WIP. But yeah...looks awesome.

Really nice to see. What sticks out the most to me is the colours and the "glow" on the horizon which looks very realistic. The real test for this is whether it handles different weather conditions and different times of the day equally beautifully.

You would need to go about 10 times faster than max speed to get a Flanker into orbit.

Yeah that was just me drooling over the pic i dunno how high up that plane is but wow.

Something has changed. You can notice that Wags stopped using EDGE acronym

He didn't use it in one post.

Seriously people, your addiction to reading coffee grounds is boardering rediculous.

EDGE, new IG, it's all the same.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

Very nice!.

More interresting, which region is it?

I'd say Georgia.

On the second picture (looking outside the cockpit), at the top (left...ish) there is water - the Black Sea. The snow covered mountain tops that stick out of the clouds must be the Caucasus.

Although ... funny thing is, behind the mountains, over russia, there is suddenly no cloud cover anymore? Small LoD glitch ("WIP")?

edit: while thinking about it, what I saw as water ... might be the same LoD glitch?

It seems to me the old overcast cloud is a rectangular sheet that's not large enough for the rendering distance of the new engine. You can see it getting cut prematurely also over ground on the right. With the old engine ground rendering stopped at the same distance as the cloud sheet so it seems we might be getting much more view distance in addition of better visual effects.
