We would need bigger maps if you wanted to start going Nuclear.

MP scoring would be easy though....everybody loses! ;)

...but the effects with EDGE will probably look fantastic.

Or smaller nukes. Not everything has to be a Tsar Bomba, and missions could be designed around having nukes but not actually using them, or preventing the enemy from launching/dropping their nuke or mission failure.

Quit while you're ahead, and before it turns into an Argument.

Integration of the GFX Engine and the NTTR Assets were never said to be done by the end of December. There were "hopes" that it would, but it was never any announced time frame.

There's no point in randomly posting about assumed delays.

And the "couple years since A-10C beta", there are several reasons for that,

A. It's not the same GFX Engine

B. It's not the same Graphical Assets.

The Graphics Engine had to be Coded First, then the Assets had to be re-done from scratch for the new Graphics Engine.

Trust me, Moving from DX9, and the old Engine to a new Engine will open the door...

I know and I am NOT complaining! I have the greatest respect for ED's choice to drop what they had and start from scratch.

That's why I said it's done when it's done.

But to twist the facts about an "assumed delay" isn't helpful, either.

I and many beta testers bought Nevada years ago. ED is aware of that. The misconception is that Nevada was intended to be build with the old engine and the decision towards EDGE meant to start from scratch.

So Nevada is definitely delayed, but get it build in EDGE and improve the whole SIM is worth any delay!

That's what I meant: be patient. We have waited for a good reason and any rush will have a negative impact on the result.

Once this major task is completed, it will be possible to build more maps... how long it might take to build one, it will be done... :D

I do not care about ''release times'' anymore. I have already spend 1/3 of my life flying ED products.

The only thing i care and i am concerned at the moment, is the simulation aspect of their new product.

In my opinion aircraft, helis systems and missile ballistics simulation is over the top at the moment. But they are systems simulations.

Since we are talking about a new terrain which is mainly focused on training,

my main concern is not the eye candies, but the simulation aspect of the terrain (coalition models), also the simulation of airport ATCs (not only 3-7 scripted atc responses), real world navaids, weather simulation, A-A radar simulation, A-G radar simulation, weather radar simulation and other combat aviation aspects.

Eye candies can be added at any time (after the dx11 integration), but simulation staff that in most cases needs to be hardcoded, must be added in the ''base'' of the core product.

I deeply hope that this new terrain together with EDGE will be a new dawn for the combat simulation community and not only a new ''small desert'' terrain module packed with some new extra 3d models and eye candies.

New modules will be always welcome (aircrafts, helis even ground units) but the core WORLD simulation engine must be the main focus for ED at the moment.

A word from a ''harcore'' comercial and combat sim pilot... :pilotfly:

Wow, I just figured out I'm in the same situation. Weird feeling but impressive performance.

Thanks ED

When can we expect to hear more about Nevada and it's progress? Maybe a Wag could answer this very simple question? I'm not talking about release dates here, I'm only asking what progress has been made since the last update about six weeks ago. Seems silly to me to hold back info when people are exited about something. I would expect some changes to have been made after 6 weeks, so can you share it with use?

It's been a month, today, since this last update. Based on the "gating item" I can see things at a point to where there is really noting to show until this is pretty much in place.

Since the last update, the NTTR map undergoes refinement, but the big gating item is currently setting up the DCS code structure to handle EDGE-based terrain data (textures, objects, DTED, etc.). In the meantime, I've uploaded some new images. The sharped eyed of you may be able to see some new changes/improvements.

It's a shame this is taking so long but on the plus side we might have some new toys to play with by the time we get our hands on any EDGE terrain. At this rate maybe the F-15 and Su-27 AFM's will even be finished.

If the delay results in a high quality, polished product with a minimal amount of bugs it will be just about worth the wait.

I can also see the NTTR Nellis easily replacing most of the Virtual Teams Demo Destination Airfields.

How will the new engine handle water? Will there still be a underground ocean in the new engine and will there be a ocean floor?

DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN

There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.

Why would they waste resources on making a sea floor? Its a flight simulator...
They should really sticky this post.
DCS stands for “Digital Combat Simulator”. DCS is a world simulation engine permitting the user to operate or direct a growing number of combat and civilian aircraft, ground vehicles and ships, from different historical eras, in different geographical locations and at different levels of fidelity. It is a true "sand box" simulation. DCS started with the Ka-50 and A-10C, but has recently grown to also include the P-51D Mustang and, with Combined Arms, a ground command and control tactical warfare component. Future products from The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics in the DCS line are in development and will includes partner products like the UH-1H "Huey", MiG-21bis "Fishbed", T-2 "Buckeye", BAE "Hawk", and Mi-8MT-V2 "Hip".

The overall "simulation operating system" is termed DCS World and is a free program that includes a free Su-25T for the player to fly. All DCS products will plug into DCS World as unique modules within the same software installation. DCS products will not be limited to aircraft, but will include maps, missions, campaigns, environment objects, weapons, vehicles and ships. We even hope to look into a train simulation component in the future!

IMHO it does make sense to model the ocean floor when the first DCS: submarine module is added. Care to make a guess how far that will be into the future? :D The good news is by then computing power available to us average gamers will probably be sufficient to model half of the observable universe :joystick: So performance-wise we will not have anything to worry about. :megalol:

Will the new Nevada terrain come as a "pure" map or will it come with new additional stuff like new skins, missions, campaigns or weapons (e.g. NACTS) that fit the Nellis/Red Flag scenario?

What kind of missions are people thinking of making?

Kinda hard to imagine a whole enemy army in the vicinity of nevada, but maybe some terrorist threats is believable.
