Mric29, PM me when you have time and I will assist you. I converted Normandie back to the old way of creating mods. I will send it to you. Nice photo Sushy! Looks like the entire French Fleet is there. I don't see any good Suffren models out there. Eddie, I have another Supply ship from my Japanese Fleet. I think it would be a great addition to DCS. So many mods but just not enough time. I'm currently finishing up the Mt Whitney at the moment.9 points

Apologies for the lack of updates, been quite busy with life recently but work has continued on the code side. we have had a HUGE update to our EFM and simulation of the engines, superchargers, propellor feathering, boost and RPM, a whole load thanks to loki. Our testers are going through and testing the performance with time to climb to altitude against the real figures. The work means that we have more refined lift coefficients and the aircraft is starting to feel alive The red EFM Test 1 line represented the first attempt which was very linear; although not plotted here our new version is nearly identical to the true values And now for some more visual stuff:6 points

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022 REV. 2 Fellow simmers, it is with great pleasure that I would like to present to you the newest revision of my CAUCASUS REDONE 2022 mod. The introduction of DCS 2.8 caused some problems with the previous version, so I decided to revamp it and enhance with some new features. The greatest change comes with the application of the sweetfx shaders which, of course, are optional but highly recommended. You will immediatelly see the difference in vibrance, tones and shading with almost no fps cost. My sweetfx settings will be attached to this post below. REV. 2, just like the previous version, gives you the option to install SNOWLESS WINTER pack, which has also been improved in some areas. I hope you will enjoy this version and have many successful sorties over Caucasus! Looking forward to hearing some feedback from you, guys! Best, Barthek INSTALLATION GUIDE 1. If you're using any terrain mods, please deactivate them to avoid potential complications. 2. Download the MOD in JSGME-ready format from HERE. 3. Unzip the content of this package to your JSGME mods folder within your DCS main folder. 4. Activate the mod in JSGME. You can find a great tutorial on how to do that HERE. 5. Preferably, set your gamma to 2.5. 6. [OPTIONAL] Download and install RESHADE from https://reshade.me. 7. [OPTIONAL] Download my reshade preset from HERE and place it in your DCS World OpenBeta\bin destination. 8. Launch DCS and pray it all works. MORE SCREENSHOTS OPTIONAL SNOWLESS WINTER / LATE AUTUMN: Answering to some requests of having a snowless version of winter, I hereby present to you some screenshots of what I managed to achieve in that regard. Below, please find the download link and instructions on how to install it. Have fun! INSTALLATION GUIDE 1. Make sure you have the main mod installed (it's not a standalone version). You can find it earlier in this post. 2. Download the SNLOWLESS WINTER pack from HERE. 2. Using JSGME (or another mod-managing software) install the optional SNOWLESS WINTER / LATE AUTUMN overwriting all necessary files when asked to do so. 3. If you want to go back to original version of winter, you will have to disable in your JSGME both the MAIN MOD and the optional SNOWLESS WINTER and then enable the MAIN MOD again. PREVIOUS REVISIONS: DOWNLOAD LINKS (previous versions) MAIN MOD: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xhVTgDmEL0PgFq-kPAmiyDXyBOkF5v6J/view?usp=share_link SNOWLESS WINTER: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KW73eNbsas1x4SB_jfw0WJiLxRwZdMBO/view?usp=share_link4 points

I'd like you guys to explain something to me. It was first known that the F-16 in this game, for whatever reason, could never perform a knife edge. It was as if it had less than half its expected body lifting force due to sideslip. Ok, so then I suppose it would make sense that the rudder authority would have to be fictionally enhanced a lot as to not appear anemic in yaw. But wait, this creates a problem. At high speeds and low altitudes, this can create an oscillation because the gains for yaw were calibrated to realistic rudder forces. A problem we had that suddenly went away one patch, but how? However, when it went away, the aircraft was still not able to perform knife edges. So now I come around and find this in one of the FM files. moment_of_inertia = { 12875.0, 85552.0, 75674.0, -1331.0},--Ix,Iy,Iz,Ixy -- Ix(roll) = 9496, Iy(pitch) = 55814, Iz(yaw) = 63100 [slug-ft2] --moment_of_inertia = { 4610.0, 48882.0, 52678.0, 0.0},--Ix,Iy,Iz,Ixy I found a copy of these numbers from a paper: A nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller for unmanned combat aerial vehicles during aerial refuelling - Jimoh Pedro (PDF) A nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller for unmanned combat aerial vehicles during aerial refuelling (researchgate.net) Which referenced these numbers sourced from: Morelli, E.A. (1998). Global nonlinear parametric modeling with application to F-16 aerodynamics, Technical report, Dynamics and Control Branch, NASA Langley Research Centre, Hampton, VA. https://zenodo.org/record/1262949/files/article.pdf Which does not actually contain these numbers or derivations of them. Does it mean they aren't legitimate numbers? Not necessarily, but an interesting bit of this is that Iz and Iy are swapped in value. I found another source of inertias from Morelli_Flight_Inertia_JGCD_Paper_final0921.pdf (nasa.gov) extracted from experimental data slug-ft2 kg-m2 Ixx-roll 9,496 12819 Iyy-pitch 55,814 75348 Izz-yaw 63,100 85185 Izz is always the highest but somehow pitch inertia in the file is highest. Is it possible the reason pitch seems so floppy is that it has its Inertia value swapped with yaw? Or is it possible there's a problem with filtering somewhere causing excessive delay of input? Perhaps with some programming, I could extract some comparative graphs through the export lua but I'm not 100% sure I have the skill for that. I just know this plane feels significantly less responsive compared to all the other aircraft we have and also struggles to change direction, like it's behind a 200 ms ping. Are the Inertias backwards? Are the control surfaces constrained to be slow? Are they stuck behind an aggressive filter? Have the gains been tampered with? White paper me bro4 points

I agree it's harder when we don't know. But what if HB can't be certain? I believe HB doesn't really know for sure either, at this point. I bet there's a lot of uncertainty, and many disruptions to timelines. And if they make an announcement that turns out wrong... people will get FAR more upset, than simply grumbling about "silence". So there's no upside to giving a distant "release date", no upside for ED, no upside for HB, and no upside for us drooling fans wanting to install The Phantom... This isn't simply a matter of counting widgets and extrapolating person/hours available. This has a lot of creative solutions to come up with, a lot of artistry, a lot of hard data to somehow convert into a code that replicates old fire controls and radar systems... I'm just saying it's probably impossible to do anything but make occasional guesses. Here: I'll give you a hard release date for the Phantom, and you can hold me to it: Before January 2029 !! If I'm wrong, I'll owe you a beer! Does that make it better?4 points

@rato65 & @Neo47 Awesome job, guys! Updated the USN Rescue liveries with the new turbine cover details. Upuaut has kindly allowed me to redistribute his liveries so unlike the previous ones these are fully standalone liveries: UH-1N USN Rescue Liveries [US Navy] Lemoore [US Navy] Lemoore Green Beside fixing a small typo on the belly of the aircraft (Abandon instead of Abondon) I've also made 2 generic variants without the name of the Air Station on the doors [USMC] Rescue [US Navy] Rescue Green4 points

As we have mentioned before we are adjusting the in ground effect for the Hornet on the deck. It will be part of the upcoming Hornet FM/FCS update. These projects do take a long time and we know the process can be frustrating, but please continue to be patient. thank you4 points

Hi, I will ask the team, but please always include a track replay from your testing if you think something is wrong. edit: We do have a report already and some changes are coming for the F-16C regarding the knife edge so please continue to be patient. thank you4 points

Never. It's a testing switch for ground crew. The spin switch is here for the purpose you mention. It's unsure if the CDVE5 switch would even do something airborne, but we let it so that you can try flying the mode, waiting for implementation of USEL failures (see below) In real life the CDVE5 (also called USEL on the warning panel) automatically engages in cases all FBW channel redundancy is lost. It's very challenging to fly as the aircraft has a tendency to backflip, pilots train to landing on it on the sim.4 points

Huey seems to be one of the most popular dcs modules. I don't know how much revenue it gives ED anymore. But give its popularity I feel it needs an upgrade. Apperantly they're already working on fixing an engine thing. But I feel it needs a upgrade. High fidelity cockpit and externals. As well as stuff people have been asking for for years. Like troops in the back. Ability to have proper slicks with no pylons etc. I would be perfectly happy if this came with a payed upgrade like the KA-50 and A-10 got3 points

Hello! I think there is a degree of misunderstanding brewing up here So I will clarify some things. First of all most likely post of PilotMi8 was misunderstood, English is not his mother tongue but he tries to improve What PilotMi8 indeed said is that UH-1H engine model is indeed being reworked and in testing stage. What he did not mention is that UH-1H engine model was in the workshop for some time already (we are talking at least year). So rephrasing his answer you can read it as "We've already developed new engine model and it is in testing phase currently and should be available in one of the next near updates" I'm clarifying this mostly to prevent some time wasted in vein, but I'm a bit too late, sorry Essentially what this thread started from is a good initiative. Only problem is it is done on the currently available old engine model. I would suggest at this point to not waste your time on testing old engine model and save it for the new model when it comes out. We've gathered problems of old engine model years ago and new model should reflect all the needed tuning. There will be more details about new engine model in the newsletter. Let's reconvene after new engine model is out and you guys can try it. Again sorry we couldn't clarify it sooner and save some of your time.3 points

Even with modern weapons the Pk needs to be reasonable. Edit: Sorry, but I noticed a slight error in the uploaded 1.1.0 package. I will correct this and re-publish it. Edit #2: It's back up again!3 points

With the extra detailed and animated RAZBAM's Strike Eagle driver and upcoming Eagle Dynamics Hornet and Viper pilots, it would be really really nice game dynamic if: 1/ in case of AI downing / AI ejecting a SAR mission tasking was generated for human (or AI helo) + if a utility helo lands near downed aircrew they board the helo and trigger is generated so we can further action this. 'trigger action 'unit x boards rescue unit y' 2/ in case pilot ejected and landed in water, it uses floating device to stay afloat and wait for SAR. If the above is not feasible then perhaps we can get these pilots as personnel static object as with the deck crew. That way we could spawn / despawn them using Lua code.2 points

I have been patiently waiting for something like the Crystal to come out and combine a larger FOV with Aero-like visual quality but I honestly was not (and am not) too keen on dealing with Pimax. I also did not want to buy the Aero again because, although it looks fantastic, it isn't a big enough step-up from my G2 to warrant that kind of price tag. Not to mention, in my first attempt with it, I had two units with dead pixels... I randomly saw some videos on the Quest Pro and decided it couldn't hurt to go pick one up today and try it out. I would never use something like the Quest 2 (nothing against those that do) but I find the G2 to be superior to that particular VR for flight sims, in most ways. I was pleasantly SHOCKED by the Quest Pro experience today!! I honestly don't know why it has not gotten more exposure in the flight sim community... PROS: 1. The edge to edge clarity: Absolutely fantastic. Sitting in the Hornet, I could clearly see my 3 DDIs and other screens without having to move my head. This is unheard of in the G2 because of the very small sweet spot. 2. FOV: Better than the G2, vertically and horizontally. I did not feel like I was looking through binoculars and I could see so much more in the periphery and also while looking straight ahead. And with CLARITY. 3. Experience: I never personally had a problem with WMR, but Oculus and Oculus Tool Tray was an absolute dream to use. Quickly copied another user's settings from this forum and it was plug and play with the Oculus Link cable. I also really enjoyed that I could manipulate my desktop from within the headset (with the G2, I was just squinting to see my desktop because I keep my monitor on my desk and my cockpit is separate and a little distance away). All of my sims and add-ons started right up, no muss no fuss. 4. Performance: Still not going to get 90fps in DCS but the performance was definitely better than what I had with the G2. This is using the MT launcher with native OpenXR. I am touching 90 frequently airborne and, even sitting on the carrier, I would have bouts of 70-80 before ASW kicked in locked me in at 45. I am debating on switching ASW from auto to just on for DCS, but will have to play around with that a bit. With the G2, I just kept unlocked MR on always via OpenXR toolkit. CONS: 1. I am not a fan of the onboard audio, at all. I ended up just tossing my wireless Arctis Nova 7s over top and it was comfortable (plus I got to benefit from their sound quality). 2. I don't like that, even with the link cable, some user's could run out of battery while playing. In my case, I am lucky enough that my motherboard's USB-C port basically kept the battery percentage stable while I was playing. 3. Half-Con: I would have preferred a DisplayPort option and kept hearing people speculate about "compression" with the link cable, but I noticed nothing but smooth play and glorious visuals. So I don't know what else to say on that! So yeah, I am actually very, very surprised here. I was expecting a lot of things to be annoying enough that I would just return the QP after testing, but, in a plot twist, I will likely be putting the G2 up for sale in a few days of continued QP use. Having used the G2 for a long time and tried the Aero, I honestly believe the QP is currently the best of both. ESPECIALLY now that the price tag has significantly dropped and it is only 1k new. The edge to edge clarity gives me Aero vibes and, whether or not the paper specs say the G2 should be better or not, THE SIMS LOOK MILES BETTER THAN THE G2. It isn't even close! I don't know how else to articulate my delight at this point: the cockpits and environment look fantastic compared to the G2! I don't know what else to say here other than I am glad to have found an alternative to the Aero, price-wise, and that I will likely not have to suffer through whatever tragedy the Pimax Crystal launch will likely end up being. For anyone wondering, these are the settings I copied and I see no need to do further tinkering:2 points

Helo mission is very frustrating, as mentioned previously, helos stay on helo pad or hovering low altitude above helo pad. In the VBID mission, its a great mission, but i have to get pretty close to trigger the vehicle. Once triggered, if I fly enough to have the airspeed for a high g turn in, Im too late. It seems like a very short timer for the fail. If i kill the first vehicle before it gets to the gate, it locks up the mission. Love the campaign, just time triggered fail missions are not my personal favorite. Id rather get a lower score and get the chance to rtb. I guess its just not possible for me to go into ME and alter the timers or fail trigger. I understand protecting from people selling off an alternate mission, but It would be fun to be able to adjust the settings on the paid campaigns. I have had fun with the campaign so far, I just hate to have to skip a mission to move on. I believe your Chariot has flown with our server. Im ShotgunDexter on the server. Thanks, I hope the feedback helps.2 points

Hello all, I just spent some time writing a batch file for texconv.exe (https://github.com/Microsoft/DirectXTex/wiki/Texconv) to try to streamline the process. The thing that struck me most during this is that there seem to be some absolutely huge normal maps and roughmet textures, some as large as 80+ MB. The other thing that I noticed was the apparent lack of standardization of the texture sizes and names. some normal maps have "normal" in their name while others have "nrm" or "NM" in there names. I understand they were most likely created at different times and by different developers. However I think it might be worth it for someone to sit down for a day or two to go through these textures and standardize them. I cannot tell any difference between a 4096x4096 32 bit roughtmet or normal map and a 2048x2048 DXT5 file does the job just as well, often cutting total size of texture for the models in half at times. Just my 2 cents2 points

The A-6 is by far the most anticipated module for me. I've been a flight simmer as long as I can remember... Microprose Strike Eagle II is the first I remember playing, followed by Strike Eagle III, Falcon 3.0, Falcon Gold, Fleet Defender Gold, Janes Longbow (1 & 2), Aces over Europe, Aces over the Pacific, Tornado, and on and on... and you never could have dreamed what flight sims could become (with the flight model and systems fidelity of DCS combined with the experience of VR). The thought of a fully modeled, DCS-quality Intruder is over the top. Given the pace at which flight sim development happens these days, and the niche market that the genre occupies, I just hope it progresses to see the light of day.2 points

Hi, Most/none of this most likely no longer applies as the FM has been extensively tweaked since then, so reaching those speeds in a continuous manner is more difficult. The answer to this is basically that the aircraft was being oversped. The LIM warning light is triggered by reaching an impact temperature of more than 135 °C. However, at low altitudes, the IAS limits are exceeded by a fair amount before those temperatures are reached. The roll he's describing is the inversion of control surfaces due to deformation of the wing and the loss of thrust is the damage to the engine.2 points

I genuinely think people believe flight model changes have happened because they’ve actually gotten better at flying it. I think people had this idea that the Apache was going to be like the Ka-50 and basically fly itself. Well, the Apache is not that and it doesn’t. You have to actively fly it. It takes on average 300 to 400 hours of actually flying the helicopter to get really comfortable with it, or at least to be comfortable enough to be in charge of it. It’s a very demanding aircraft, it requires an enormous amount of skill to fly. Pardon my bluntness, but I think a lot of internet pilots thought they’d master it in no time, because of their legendary video game sky god abilities. Reality is a cruel mistress. So when people make absolute claims about a flight model change in the absence of any factual evidence, it makes me laugh. The reality is you’ve probably just gotten better from hours of practice.2 points

To Motherboard hell and back... So when I got myself a brand new MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX as part of my 2023 upgrade, it all went downhill from there. First I had no signal with a brand new GPU, the PCI_E1 slot wouldn't work, I had to install it to the PCI_E2 slot, losing performance ( X 8 vs X 16) and a USB connection in the process (the GPU is too thick to allow for the connector to be fitted when in PCI_E2. Other little details... The Flash BIOS Button never worked, the battery is quasi-inaccessible because located half-way under one of the mobo sinks, BIOS is unstable, it did display boot options instead of the USB, I managed to go around this issue by dropping the BIOS file in an empty listed partition, since it became visible I was able to update my BIOS... As much I would recommend anyone wanting to build a starter system the MSI B450 GAMING PLUS motherboard, I'm saying stay away from the MEG X570S ACE MAX, if you're as unlucky as I've been with it you will regret it. I just ordered an Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus WiFi (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 Chipset ATX Motherboard, It should contribute to solving some of my issues, then I'll be able to work on the AMD drivers issues (if the GPU keep under-performing), re-install DCS and get it to work in multithread, at the moment, I do not have the necessary testing equipment to tell which part of my PC is causing other problems than the motherboard and its BIOS. Wish me luck.2 points

If you're curious, you can find the real information on how it works here: [PUBLIC RELEASE DISTRO A] https://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pubs/DR_a/ARN33396-ATP_3-52.4-000-WEB-1.pdf - also look up P-877 for the Navy/AIC side of it (also public release) I agree though, the current AWACS comm is ridiculous, its only "saving grace" is the BRAA spam is telepathic so not everyone hears it, it would be 10x worse if the current system wasn't telepathic. Luckily most of AIC/ABM comm is public release, so there's no blockers for knowledge, ED just needs to improve it when they have allocate resources to that. It's one of those things that would be super nice to have, even the human controllers often would rather fly, so plenty of missions go without control. For your information: > prioritise calls based on the situation (if a bogey turns hot on you or comes within a set distance) This is real, typically the AIC/ABM will just say something like "Bear, Single group, maneuver hot" but it depends on the situation. > (not sure if realistic) give contacts an identifier so you know which contact they're talking about Yes, this is realistic, groups are given labels, e.g. `single group`, or `north group`, or `lead group` (see the docs for all of the naming) > let you know when a contact disappears or is killed They would say either `faded` or `vanished` depending if there was weapons correlation or not. > only bug you when the situation changes or you request an update This is more of a complicated answer, but yes they will minimize comms as your proceed on your timeline and get closer unless its an important call (e.g. threat, cross court, untargeted, merge, etc.)2 points

Revisited the AV8, thought some things might be fixed. No luck, the ongoing fight to track moving targets is incredible. I eventually had to use active pause and try to track lock a convoy that was heading in my general direction. I spent so much time trying to lock the vehicles, that when it FINALLY started tracking. I paused the sim and measured distance from me too the convoy. The range was........8 MILES OUT AND CLOSING. The contrast was perfect, the entire time. 8 miles wouldn't give a pilot time to scratch their a** before they were overflying the mark and getting their air frame turned into scrap metal. WTH is the deal with this module still not being able to do the simple things that it's supposed to do?!?!2 points
