Since the first announcement made on here, my project has gone through a lot. We now have a new and improved 3d model, fully animated and almost completely textured. We have an SFM for early stages and are currently looking for somebody with prior DCS EFM experience. But otherwise it is flying well and animations are smooth. Attached are videos and screenshots of where our mod is at now for those interested. The Iconic Talon Veco Simulations is happy to announce our first public community mod for DCS World: the T-38A Talon. The T-38A Talon is a two-seat supersonic jet trainer powered by two J85 turbojet engines. Entering service in 1961, it was the world's first jet trainer to exceed Mach 1. This revolutionised pilot training with its high performance, endurance, and safety. Extensively used by the U.S. Air Force and other NATO allies, it has trained more than 72,000 pilots since its inception. Even today, over 65 years after its first flight, the T-38 remains a key part of NATO fighter pilot training for many nations. The T-38A will be released as a free standalone full-fidelity community mod with a clickable multi-crew cockpit, highly-detailed 3D model and textures, custom-built external flight model (EFM) and stand-alone avionics. 3D Model The creation of the 3D model began with a simple external design and evolved into a year-and-a-half-long project fueled by precision and dedication to capturing the iconic shape of the T-38A. Our focus on VR optimization and accuracy led us to extensively overhaul the external model and revise the cockpit design three times since 2022, ensuring every detail meets our high standards. Extensive research was crucial in this journey. We gathered hundreds of high-resolution photos, both first-hand and second-hand, of the T-38A and its T-38M counterpart. Using photogrammetry, we meticulously captured the most complex shapes, ensuring no detail was overlooked. To bring the model to life, we are utilizing PBR textures and have hand-painted hundreds of bolts, ensuring an accurate and vibrant representation of the aircraft. This attention to detail not only enhances the realism of the model but also adds a dynamic and immersive quality that makes the aircraft feel truly alive. We have a skilled team of well-known 2d artists and livery creators - Roughmaster, Wolfthrower, Crash, Aqil, and Fistick - dedicated to crafting a diverse range of liveries for the initial release. These liveries represent various operators throughout the aircraft's extensive operational history. Each livery is detailed with unique weathering effects specifically crafted by Roughmaster to reflect the wear and tear experienced by these aircraft over time. Furthermore, we are developing templates with multiple levels of wear-and-tear to include in the livery painting kit. This will allow the community to select their preferred starting point when creating their own liveries, providing flexibility and creative freedom for everyone. External Flight Model (EFM) Development of the EFM started in 2022 and it is responsible for the simulation of the flight dynamic model, engine model and aircraft systems. The flight dynamics of the T-38A are defined by over 25 stability and control derivatives, considering non-linear effects of angle of attack and Mach. The coefficients were derived from wind tunnel tests, empirical estimations and CFD analysis - and subsequently verified against U.S. Air Force flight tests. It features accurate stall characteristics, yaw and pitch dampers, and authentic flight control deflection limits and is continuously refined through extensive flight testing by the Virtual Turkish Stars. The J85 engine simulation uses an analytical model based on a NASA design, providing detailed engine parameters influenced by environmental conditions, with features like afterburner, cold start, and compressor stall accurately represented. The system model employs a "divide and conquer" approach, simulating each component independently, covering electric, fuel, and hydraulic systems on a near-study level, ensuring an honest representation of the aircraft's operational procedures. Standalone Avionic The T-38A features a classic steam gauge cockpit and is fully equipped for instrument flight training. Community mods for DCS typically have limitations regarding the avionic capabilities, as they don't have access to the Software Development Kit (SDK) that is used by 3rd party developers. However, we have carefully chosen an authentic 1970s avionic configuration that allows us to fully implement every functionality, without the need to own any other module and - equally important - without sacrificing our self-imposed level of fidelity. This configuration includes: A fully functional UHF radio for radio communication with ATC and even other players via voice chat. Intercom for communication between the pilot in the front seat and the instructor in the back seat via voice chat. TACAN for range and bearing information to ground beacons, taking into account distance and line-of-sight limitations. ILS for vertical and horizontal guidance during instrument approach, including marker beacon. A mechanical Flight Director System provides the steering cues to follow the desired flight path. Our vision is to provide an unforgettable experience that truly represents what it's like to be in the seats of the T-38A Talon, creating a digital representation that goes beyond what you see on the screen. This project represents a culmination of extensive research, meticulous craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for the historical significance of this iconic trainer. We invite you to join our journey and experience the T-38A Talon in unparalleled detail. We are only a few days out from the release of the Chinook. Will there be any videos show casing what is getting released for the EA in July? Any start-up videos, etc? It seems a bit unusual that there are nothing prior to the release of a module. I'm interested in buying the helo but only got a bullet point list of what is supposed have on the EA release day.7 points

Hello everyone, This topic is dedicated to the MiG-25P mod and it's updates. This mod exists since January by now, and version 1.4 is released today. What is new in version 1.4: -More realistic engine perfomance. It was slightly overpowered before. -Removed TWS radar mode and helmet targeting mode as the MiG-25P does not have these technologies. -More realistic turn rate and booster perfomance of R-40 missiles. -Landing drag parachutes now work. -Liveries have better shading. -A new livery with no markings. Hello all, In case some of you don’t know, there has been a radar fix mod for the F-15E released. While it is a mod, it really doesn’t fit in the mods section of the forum as it’s F-15E specific. It restores the F-15E radar to working order and leaves your system date unaffected, even the DCS Mission editor date/time is correct (bottom rght corner). EDIT: also restores TFR functionality. The mod is called Budgie. Keep in mind it’s only a short term fix to help those of you who want to keep flying the Mudhen while ED and RB keep doing what they’re doing behind closed doors. I am hopeful of a patch to fix the radar on patch day, that would be ideal, had we received the patch as scheduled on the 26th with a fix for the Mudhen radar, Budgie would’ve never been released. Of course if it’s not fixed on patch day, Budgie will continue to work and will be updated as necessary until such time an official fix is released. Once an official fix is released, delete the Budgie folder, it’s that simple. Also, for Multiplayer, this passes Integrity Check. You’re back to flying in Multiplayer, I’ve tested it, many other users are flying it right now in Multiplayer. Budgie makes zero changes to any files included with the Mudhen or DCS. You can find Budgie here: Budgie mod on Github Please note, despite being a github release, there is no source at this time. My biggest concerns are pouring fuel on a fire and worsening persistent issues in the community and also the potential to use Budgie as a foundation for exploits or cheating, I know this has upset a few individuals out of what I estimate to be 500+ users so far in a community of thousands of people active daily, I simply don’t care. If you’re not comfortable, you don’t have to use it. YouTube Video By Plane Spotting Fargo YouTube Video By VRFlightGuy InPJPants5 points

Budgie is not affected by Integrity Check, I’ve been on most of the major servers, it makes zero change to the supplied files with the Mudhen or any other part of DCS. How do I know? I’m the Developer.5 points

Folks please calm down. We will posts videos when we are ready to. There will be no preview for content creators however, they will get access the same time as everyone else, this is not a new policy for us. Tutorial videos will come later during early access as features are refined, this will prevent having to delete or redo videos later on. Cinematic / gameplay videos will likely be first. Please remember this is early access launch and there will be active development ongoing, I'm already loading cargo and doing single point sling loads in testing and having a lot of fun and I am sure you will to. thank you4 points

I'm a bit surprised to read this. Normally, before new EA releases, there is quite a bit more preview videos (call it hype build up or just informative videos). At least some videos from Wags/ED. Reading this reaction, it seems there's no intention of sharing/previewing anything more than what we have now: "a few fancy looking cinematic trailers and a general list of features". Not angry/ranting or anything, but that's just not enough for me, to spend €50 on. I'll just wait until we see some more (and with that, accept possibly paying a bit more later on).3 points

Good Morning Everyone, I'm working on the Submarines now. The Vanguard needs more work because the missile launchers are not there so I have to add them. I will add Tomahawks. Although, she only carries Torpedoes and Tridents. So she will be fictional. The USS Sturgeon I think is ready for release. After three years I've finally figured out how to animate the submarine to submerge automatically and periscopes rise up. I will test her today to see if she rises automatically after the enemy ship has been destroyed. Take a look at the bottom photo. It shows how effective the Torpedoes are in DCS. Or shall I say ineffective. Hey Penquin625, the Exocet missile is just as effective but I think the Naval Strike Missile rides low to the water. So it's hard to track and hit. The NSM is 400 kgs/800 lbs so any weapon with that weight will do significant damage to any ship. AI Ship damage is based on their GT.Life configuration and some other configuration. Not sure what the others are but GT.Life is a main one i think. The higher the better. If the ships GT.Life is set low the ship will sink right away. I tested it against the Chinese 093 this morning. It took two hits from the NSM to sink it. The 093 GT.Life is 1500. The carriers GT.Life is set at 7300 so it will take much more to bring them down. I will get the USS Sturgeon out to you all this weekend. She's a basic submarine that only launches torpedoes. Something to note. The Other submarines will not launch any missiles submerged. Just in case you're wondering.3 points

Please @BIGNEWY or @NineLine, any word on this? We're not asking for video's right away, we just wonder if ED has plans to showcase a bit of what we can expect, before the actual EA release (end of pre-purchase) (I also asked the same question in the weekly newsletter post) Although I love helo flying, I can only spend my money once and even though there's a nice pre-order discount, I still have to make choices between the new upcoming modules. As I can't justify spending money on everything. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the early access CH-47F being "p"reviewed by a few of the higher rated YouTube content creators such as for instance Casmo and Redkite. Or at least have Wags throw us a a few cockpit familiarization videos on what we can expect at release.3 points

Yes, so you’re already halfway there, add the services folder and double click Budgie.zip, drag and drop that Budgie folder into the services directory, run DCS and look for the icon on the main menu. Any issues, let me know, happy to help. As an example, your DCS Logs, Screenshots, Missions you’ve created will be in: C:\Users\ <Your Windows Username>\Saved Games\DCS\ In that folder we need to make sure we have: Mods\services\ And you’re dragging the Budgie folder from the provided zip file into the services directory. Once it’s there, open the Budgie folder in the services dir, verify you see entry.lua and a folder called bin, start DCS. The icon you’re looking for is the one from the release notes on github. Provided that’s there, try an Instant action mission with an air start in the F-15E, verify radar is working.3 points

Casmo was allowed to post raw footage with it at least a week or two before the official release. The lack of 'just' gameplay from ED's side is concerning. Yes, we know already that it's very undercooked, even for EA release, we're four days out, why tip toe around it and not just show it?3 points

People can add their own keybinds bound from keyboard here. - Small changes to certain buttons in the on position - they're brighter - just helped me check they're in the ON position at a quick glance. FYI nothing would be done without @Bailey work. I have no idea what version of the LUA i'm using so i've added mine here that this profile works with currently. Sir, In 20 years of flying tactical aircraft I heard every single cuss word you can imagine. C-21As, C-130E/H-1/H-2, C-130J, MC-130J. More deployments than I'd like to admit. Central/South America, Europe, Africa and of course the middle-east---tooooo much middle-east. I've been shot at on a handful of occasions, made the right tactical call (not perfect but the right call) and cussed like a sailor afterwords....maybe even during. I honestly can't remember. Cuss words over the radio? No. Cuss words on the ICS......lol, A TON!!!!! I'm sorry sir, but in my humble opinion cussing is a part of the military mindset, right or wrong (its wrong imho), it is. And by the way, I am a 110% God Fearing Christian Man. However, I would not shove my viewpoint down anyone's throat. Everyone has to come to their own decision as to what path they take in life. I disagree with your forcing of opinion here. Respectfully, Harbs3 points

You called? For anyone who might be interested, below is a PM conversation I had that alluded to some real world information sent to me by one of our many faithful forum buddies. (I've not included his name here as he sent this to me via private message) - Thought many might find his buddy's findings interesting. Enjoy: I wanted to tell you about a conversation I had at an unclassed level with a friend of mine in the fighter community. He went to the vault and looked at the lot 20 EM diagrams (402 engine) and compared them to the F-16CM block 50 F-16 with the engines we have in game -- his findings were pretty cool. He couldn't tell me numbers, to keep it at an unclassed level, but he said the difference was pylons. With pylons on the wing, the hornet will be out-rated by a clean viper. With pylons on the Viper and a clean hornet, the Hornet will out-rate the viper. Both Clean wing, and they are virtually the same with a slight advantage to the F-16. The caveat here is that the lot 20 is still G limited to 7.5Gs -- so it's engine and airframe are just generating that higher turn rate at a much slower speed -- I think around 380-ish. If the hornet gets above 400, it begins to arc, because it can't tighten down more than 7.5Gs, and the turn circle just gets really really big. This friend also told me that the hornet is playing from a very different set of rules than the F-16, and the F-16 employment manuals don't actually cover how to combat the hornet trickery. The USAF is all about aligning turn circles to kill, and you can do that pretty well against non-high-AOA fighters. But a high AOA fighter (and the navy in general) strive to have misaligned turn circles both offensive and defensively -- which allows them to change the plane of motion in ways that the opponent can't follow without overshooting. This is the classic hornet ditch -- but that ditch needs to be executed when there are misaligned turn circles, and the cue for that is seeing aspect angle out of synch with angle off nose or tail. I think this is stuff that's a bit over the nugget of most DCS players, and if they are operating from IFF manuals or the korean 3-3 viper manual -- it's just not covered in there. A lot of people's complains with flight models in BFM probably stem from this. Anyway -- bottom line is that the big engine hornet can in fact rate as well as a clean viper, but 99-100% of the time the navy is leaving 4 pylons on the hornet, where the viper maybe has 2 -- and so the advantage goes to the viper in BFM. Clean vs clean, and we just have a very small advantage in the F-16. Cheers3 points

I kinda wish Magnitude 3 would delay the Corsair simply to apply needed updates to the MiG-21bis such as these navigation issues ... Actually that's all I can think of. Then after the Corsair work on a v2. Somehow I don't think many people would mind a delay on the Corsair in exchange for a MiG-21bis navigation update, but then I'm personally indifferent about the Corsair and very interested in the Balalaika. This is Mk 3.something. For those intimidated by these home pits don't be; I started out with an Apple ][ Joystick. My first "high end" HOTAS was a CH stick and throttle on a desk; the first mod was to wrap leather around the stick to get rid of the plastic feel. I first decided I wanted a 'cockpit' in August of 2002 when I saw my first flight sim cockpit; that was the convention where Robert Shaw autographed my copy of 'Fighter Combat'. My first "simpit" were some button boxes powered by Teensy (Arduino compatible) controllers in mid 2018; those sat under my monitor stands. Six years and a lot of time and money later...I need to wrap that stick with leather.2 points

Also this: Aerodrome Data and Frequencies - Updated 22 May 2024 (digitalcombatsimulator.com) Don't know about what's planned, but I doubt we'll see many more. Simply because there are only a couple of paved aerodromes left within the map's current boundary, and they would've been added by now if the devs were intended to do so. The rest is smaller dirt and grass airfields of various levels of obscurity.2 points

I hope soon. Around 7 or so years ago the ground unit's accuracy became obscene and has been that way since. It made me stop playing ground attack missions for a long time. BMP-2s were shooting my wings off when I was in Flankers and Fulcrums. As it is now it is easier to dodge Vulcans and Shilkas than it is BMP-2s, BTRs and other vehicles not designed for air defense. The ability to detect, track and the accuracy is extremely unrealistic. You have to consider what the sighting solutions look like in these vehicles and you'd quickly realize how hard it would be to ID and track and aircraft through these things. As an example, watch the first 5 seconds of this video. BTR-82. It is shooting at a parked M113 at close range. You'll notice that the second shot misses. It goes over the top of the vehicle. If you watch BMP-2/3 and BTR-82s you'll see how much dispersion there is and how inaccurate they are. Here is another video that does an even better job of showing dispersion. Other vehicles are a bit more accurate, but still tracking and successfully engaging and hitting planes would be extremely difficult. Slow and low flying helicopters are more likely to be hit.2 points

Oh boy, what a mess. Nikoel started this topic / bug report. With an EM Sketch which cannot be verified due to lack of very basic information. In the meantime, this chart seems to have disappeared. How do you think this should be verified? And then he came up with cl’s em-chart. Do they proof the edf18 fm wrong? Nope. It doesn’t even compare edf18 to rw f18. Others chimed in, some telling nonsense. HWasp finally confirmed with accurate tests that the edf18 and edf16 do have a max str within 0.5dps under same conditions at sl. Kind of proofing the withdrawn op em-sketch wrong… kind of confirming wilbur. It is going to be hard to verify, even more change the fm based on that i guess.2 points

In a recent flight in the F-4E sim I rolled off the runway. Jester immediately called, "Are you out of your G-dd---ed mind?" THIS IS UTTERLY UNACCEPTABLE IN A GAME. I flew 20 years off carriers. During that time I racked up combat missions over Iraq, Kosovo, and Afghanistan and had everything from AAA to missiles shot at me. I have been trailed by MiGs when USAF AWACS was asleep on the job in Kosovo (the Brits had to let us know what was going on). Twice my jet was misidentified as Bandit, once an F-15E was cleared to engage me BVR (and closed for a visual instead... saving my life) I have seen countless inflight emergencies, had a landing gear failure while trapping on the flight deck at night, and seen all manner of stupid in the cockpit. I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYONE CURSE IN G-D'S NAME IN THE JET. Yes, Sailors swear. That is a given. The line is drawn entering the cockpit. Yes, aviators swear there as well, but it is both rare and typically a debrief item or is/was attached to a debrief item. To use The L-RD's name in vain was never done and has exactly no business in a game. This is beyond disgusting and needs to be fixed, yesterday. This is my new favorite post on this website, anyway here's a laundry list of military aircrew saying far worse than light profanities both in and out of combat off the top of my head: Second Gulf of Sidra incident, I think everyone here has heard Beads yelling about not having a fcking tone at LEAST once now F-4E supersonic guns kill on a MiG-19, if you want something more period correct F-4 ejection over the north sea RF-4C shot down by SAM, friendly warning this one's a fair bit more intense than the others F-4 after shooting down a MiG-21 F-105 wild weasels in the thick of it, gotta love the that sht hot call TURN THE HEAT OFF, yeah... IFF DB-3, saved the best for last, kills me every time2 points

Ok I’m out, you can’t have reasonable conversations with fundamentalists.2 points

1. This is a behavior known by the Russians as “Podkhvaht” or “pick up.” It is a blend of two things A. Mushing: this is what happens when a helicopter at high speed experiences high enough G load that AOA becomes positive, and up flow of air through the rotor causes it to stall, causing RBS like symptoms as you lose control and thrust B. The wing is installed at 19 degree angle. Not coincidentally, the wing also stalls at 19-20 degrees. This means almost any positive AOA will stall the wing. The wing is also quite a distance behind the rotor mast and center of gravity (CG), this means that the lift it creates (up to 25% in cruise) also causes a pitch down moment. It also means that any payload on the wing moves CG back, which increases AOA and thus wing lift. This is one reason that loading weight on the pylons has so little effect on it in cruise. So when increase G load between 1.4-1.8 G, at some point the Angle of Attack will transition from above your nose to below, your rotor will get up flow and begins to stall and your wing is also stalling. The first part of the rotor to stall is the right side, causing a pitch up. The wing being behind the CG/rotor, is causing a lot of pitch down force with its almost 3,000 kg of lift. Now that it’s stalling, suddenly the force pitching the nose down goes away and makes the pitch up worse. So it’s a cascading intermeshing of issues, that all happen to be caused at around the same time. There are three ways to recover or prevent this happening! A. this always happens at a certain G-load, I will post the G chart, a good rule of thumb at medium weights and altitudes is don’t exceed 1.6-1.8 G. If in a level turn, this is around 50-55 degree bank B. Decrease collective pitch 1-3 degrees. This will un stall the rotor. You might be surprised how fast it can snap back after just 1-3 degrees less collective. C. Full stick forward! Also. If your are nearing the ground, decrease roll angle during recovery. The less your bank angle, the less altitude you lose while this happens Also. Manual recommends to increase G to desired load in a turn over the course of 2-3 seconds. This makes a big difference for me There is a real G chart for this, but has a huge margin of safety for speed. I usually ignore the speed restrictions, it will always happen at the same G, but the faster you are the more violent it will be. You can get a really good feel for this by doing 50-55 degree angle bank turns. In my experience, weight, altitude, and collective decide what your max G will be There is dot in the G meter at 1.5 G, it is good reference for minimum G you can sustain at all altitudes below about 2,000m. I made my own color coded picture with yellow/red as danger zones Also: the effect of the entire podkhvaht/pick up was made smoother in a patch recently 2. Your second issue, tail authority My first suggestion if you you are not overweight or at too high altitude, is watch your Yaw AP. Your AP can add/subtract anywhere from 18-118% authority, and trim you without your consent. Check if you have an option “Pedal auto move” on. You want to have it off. Turning it off means that if Yaw AP runs out of its 18% authority, it will trim your pedals to use as much authority as it needs. Having it on means that pedals will trim you anytime heading moves more then 7.5 degrees from the heading it’s trying to hold I tell most new flyers to keep Yaw AP off. And to only play with it once you are ready to play with the microswitch and all the microswitch options the change the Yaw AP from heading hold to dampening. If you are interested, let me know. I have also written large guides for weapons and autopilot and translated an aerodynamic manual for it.2 points
