Su-22m4 for DCS World! Mod developement thread. discord: https://discord.com/invite/6yqcEngfE8 First of all, this is separate project from Sniper's and Octopuss Su-22. I'm making Su-22m4 with custom cockpit and external model, based on FC3 (Su-25A) avionics with PFM. Mod will be released soon as a AI 3d model replacement for Su-17m4 and then, in the meantime I'll work further on developing the flyable mod (mainly working on cockpit) External model is 90% done, with most of the animations, and some liveries. Liveries include Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Russian, Syrian, DDR and some other. Cockpit needs to be animated as well with making all the scripts and logic in lua. Yes, it will have variable sweep wings! It will carry a lot of unguided weaponry such as bombs and rockets, as well as guided munitions such as Kh-29 missiles family, ARM and more. Maybe I will be able to add TV seeker view into the cockpit CRT without switching to Su-25T avionics, but I dont promise anything yet. No ETA, stay tuned, the AI replacement will be public soon.19 points

Also, to not get confused, some screenshots above have different external 3d model - those are before the model was made into M4 variant of the su-22 (2 extra R-60 pylons, countermeasures pods, extended vertical stabiliser). Here is how the external stuff looks now, as well as some liveries that will be included. Right now there are Luftwaffe, Hungarian, Libyan, Peruvian, Czech, Soviet, Syrian, Polish and Ukrainian liveries. Stay tuned and have a nice day!9 points

One very bad thing about our existing troop carrying helicopters is aside from gunners we have no representation of loaded aircraft whatsoever visually. I own all other helicopter modules and it annoys me to no end that at the UH-1, MI-8 and MI-24 have nothing. At the very least I ask and cannot say it enough that we at least have a static representation on the troop seats of infantry or pallets/cargo shown in the cabins. This goes for the CH-47 too. There is currently a fabulous low budget sim where the developer has already done this in the beta stage in another simulation game. DCS has a far larger budget and it should not be hard at all to at least provide static models in the cabin when loaded. Its a lot easier and less time consuming then modeling seated troops that move heads etc. Please give us at least something. It is crucial for aircraft like this.5 points

Hello friends, I worked hard this weekend and I`ve created some first skins. So what can I say: I had to downsize the textures because of my VR settings and in order to save RAM. I still fight gainst the pylon settings given in ED`s engine. If I renember correct there is maybe a lua-life somewhere where the angle of the weapons can be corrected - there was some in the very old past. Maybe hardscripted or coded nowadays? Still lots of animations have to be done but so far, I´m pretty satified about the results ... I think the low poly replacement is comming to an end. Cheers TOM4 points

Still can't get over the fact that the MH-6 is cancelled. It's just a tragedy Either way, the trusty old OH-6 is still providing us with plenty of entertainment. Made a little video with it on the Cold War Germany map on one of the FRG's Weapons Ranges.4 points

Agreed on the idea. We have mainly late war aircraft, so working backwards towards the Battle of France would be a great idea, and the list of aircraft suggested looks reallly good.3 points

Ok guys, seriously! I have a few questions : 1. Why, when we create a plane object, and then increase the number to 2 or 3 or 4... shouldn't the LEAD plane be, oh i don't know, THE LEADER? why do the planes get added IN FRONT of the lead plane ? no matter the orientation, no matter how many waypoints it has, all additional planes get placed AHEAD of the lead plane. "follow the leader, leader, leader, follow the leader" is how it goes, not "ahead of the leader, leader, leader, ahead of the leader".... 2. how come when we create a formation, using DCS "pre configured" variables(ww2 bomber element), do we get formation deterioration ? ( see track aptly named FORMATION DETERIORATION at 0631). You have to appreciate the frustration given the price tag of DCS and its DLCs. The fact that getting planes to fly in formation in a straight line seems to be a bit too much to ask...and you know what? Maybe i'm doing it wrong... but i tried different variations and having a LEAD group with all others follow it using the BIG formation variables: LEADER = LEAD-RIGHT-LEFT-BACK, RIGHT = LEAD-RIGHT-LEFT-BACK, LEFT = LEAD-RIGHT-LEFT-BACK, BACK = LEAD-RIGHT-LEFT-BACK totaling 64 planes, in a "diamond 4 formation". AND YES, every group of 4 has flight options set on the group, + 1 waypoint to give it a heading (previous mistake of mine that you guys corrected me on). Also, it makes no difference if the elements have 2, 3 or 4 planes, the mysterious slowing down occurs regardless. group formation setting : WW2 Bomber Element Height Separation at the start of the mission, formation is somewhat elegant (excessive gap between LEADER group and RIGHT/LEFT/BACK, but at this point, it's the least of the issues. So all 64 planes are headed in the same direction, at the same speed, aiming for the same target. BARELY 1 minute in flight, we start seeing formation deterioration... WHYYYY!!!????? we have the RIGHT group's LEAD squadron that starts to slow down... By the time we arrive at the target and bombs away, you guessed it, it's right over the back squadron... KABoom! Keep in mind that all groups of 4 were copy paste from the same group. The only things that changed were the positions in the formation. So where is it getting the mysterious information to SLOWDOWN when all other groups are maintaining speed ? After this considerable loss of assets and bomb release, maintaining formation is completely impossible. planes start doing rolls, they go in a whatever direction they want, can't maintain altitude, do spin rolls as if they were Extra300 aerobatic planes. climb a few thousand feet only to descend back smashing right in another group(which the crippled planes will for some reason salvo a complete bomb load even though bombs have already been dropped) although this might be sim options related(possibly unlimited ammo),... I mean, if 64 planes in a straight line is too much, maybe prevent users from doing so. The only way i found how to achieve as high as 128 planes flying without a single mid-air collision is by MANUALLY plotting EACH group of 4's' waypoints 1 by 1. it was so time consuming that i questioned the worth of DCS at this point. But after spending over 1000$ on DCS and addons, DLCs, planes, etc, and have something as simple as straight line formation flight be so poorly coded, yeah.. i feel robbed! many other flight sims have no issues, yet, the MOST expensive flight simulator available to the consumer public just can't seem to properly code formation flight for AI planes!!!! IN A STRAIGHT line! we haven't even addressed the clusterF*** that ensues if we dare try to make the formation make GRADUAL turns that span over hundreds of miles just to achieve a 180. It was said that we would not be getting the UPK-23 because it was only ever used on export variants of the Hind. But ED's F-5E has various options for export variants, our F-16 gets a triple-rail Maverick that was never operationally used, the FA-18 has a cheek-mounted LANTIRN that was never used by USN or USMC, and the BS3 has a third wing pylon that doesn't even exist in real life. We should have the UPK-23 to recreate the Hind in export usage.2 points

I've grown up about 50km east of the city of Paderborn in Germany. So it was only natural for me to check out the area. What I immediately noticed: The telecommunications tower on top of the Köterberg was missing. I consider it THE landmark in the region, visible even from the ground from several 10s of kilometers away. As such if you want to get your bearings in the area, you usually look for this tower (and I guess this is the same in other areas with these towers). Thus it would be nice, if these towers could be included (they are listed on the map in DCS), especially as they are standardized towers (e.g. the model can be used more than once). Von diesen Prozenten bei Steam VR sollte man sich seit den ersten 4K Panelen langsam mal verabschieden. Das wird über eine alte Formel berechnet (hab vergessen wie, irgendwas mit Pi durch x mal kein Plan) um den Überhang für das Entzerrungsprofil zu erstellen. War für die alten Auflösungen i.O, heute völlig Überzogen. Nimm die native Auflösung und pack 10-15% für die Entzerrung rauf und fertig. Wenn deine Graka mehr kann, dann eben mehr, wenn nicht etwas weniger. Das ist lediglich ein Richtwert für Faule.2 points

Kudos to ED! I am happy to see that the detailed area of the DCS: East Afghanistan map is now extended to match up with the eastern border of the DCS: North Afghanistan part. With the recent air battle between India and Pakistan over the Jammu and Kashmir as well as Punjab regions, if we could get another 100 km / 60 mi in the eastern direction to include Srinagar, Amritsar, and Jalandhar (depicted by the yellow rectangle in the image below), the map would be perfect to accommodate this entire scenario, as described here: Incredible Pakistan Air Force debriefing about India-Pakistan air battle So, it would allow for scenarios related to the Afghanistan theater and offer additional value of scenarios involving contested areas between India and Pakistan. Well like NL just said, it’s too high value to give away. That question has already been asked and answered, not even the topic here really. DCSW is free, so just have a separate install to trial modules with. If trials are something anyone really wants so much they can convert away from Steam altogether.2 points

I'm currently not affiliated with ED in any way right now. I was, but that's about it. Nobody has approached me or otherwise, so we're all clear. Sure I know some people, but I'm like most, we're still members but not privy to any inside information about current work, but I'm out of the military (left in 2013), so I'm VEEEEEEERY rusty on JTAC-style controls and such (even though I consulted on the JTAC portion, though mislabled as one as I was a JFO at the time). And I don't keep up because I really don't need to. Anyway, I don't disagree with a trainer, but you're right, I'm not the target audience (good point), but it'll take years for development, and never perfect in the eyes of players and so on.1 point

Privy to ED's sales figures? No. Indications that player numbers have been lower than they were during the pandemic? For sure. Steam charts clearly indicate a boom in 2020 (like happened with every PC and console game) but then active userbase has been decreasing since the beginning of 2023. https://steamcharts.com/app/223750#All We're not counting the non-Steam users here. But I'd guess is safe to say their chart would be similar. Again - having free trials is great. But there is no such thing for Steam users, where a huge portion of the userbase is, and from where newcomers also come from (I'd wager far more than non-steam newcomers). DCS belongs to a niche genre of PC gaming. Relying on the current userbase only is short sighted. Newcomers must be taken into account. Once interested they will add to the userbase who continuously invests on paid content - what sustains DCS and makes it grow. Again, you only have one chance to do well on first impressions... I think sacrificing a simpler to operate, already mature (zero impact on development) and cheap (low revenue) module, to turn it into free default/included content, is the easiest and probably best solution to lure in new players. And the good old F-15C is the right module for that. Well, that's unfortunate but it's understandable. I didn't know that it had ended, I stand corrected.1 point

If you find anything let me know! You can post here for support, or open an issue on the GitHub This took much longer than I wanted (over a month!) but only because I haven't had enough free time to work on the mod. There aren't any major roadblocks in the way of the remaining aircraft, and I'll continue working towards a 1.0 release with all FC aircraft supported.1 point

It's my Space Shuttle of Death. It's big, fast as stink, it's got the payload, the TF radar, the excellent A2G radar. It's just cool from stem to stern. I'm an A2G flyer, so while the F-15C does nothing for me, the F-15E is da bomb! Regardless of it's unfinished status, it's great fun to fly.1 point

Да оно никак не удобно.На земле еще можно.В полете только кнопки.Мышкой был бы самый норм вариант,если бы его сделали по нормальному,о чем много раз их просили.Но они не хотят делать как удобней.В этой игре ты должен страдать. Могу посоветовать голосовое управление.Будут типа правый с техником арматуру юзать.Оно конечно с задержкой работает,и не всегда срабатывает.1 point

Только для Ми-8 и стОит! И вообще для вертолетов. В шлеме "объективно" ощущаешь положение вертолета относительно окружающего пространства, высоту и скорость. Висение и приземление в "колодцы" намного проще, чем на мониторе. Но сразу готовься к худшей графике. Шлем покупай с возможностью работать на 72 Гц экранов. И только топовый комп с 4090 может удержать эти 72 фпс на всех картах. 90 фпс уже не потянет. Если, конечно, графику в ноль не порезать.1 point

Ok, this is my entry. It's a perfect time because the conflicts in Afghanistan, both US and Soviet, are my favorite topic Travel back to the times of the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan 1979-89. This Mi-24P of OSAP repaint based on the real repaints used in this conflict on the Mi-24P, type - "desert clover" used during military operations in Afghanistan. The skin is based on the real schemes used on the Mi-24P in Afghanistan, the so-called "Afghan clover pattern". This camo was created at that time in two variants, greenish (as a background) and sand-colored (as a background). The repaint also has changed interior elements (pilot, gunner, etc.), includes enhanced weathering too and can be used with any side number (with weathering numbers too). I'm adding a few more screenshots than planned. The skin is a part of my "Szatan Arba" campaign dedicated for Mi-24P. Link HERE. Skin is already for download: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3335143/. Personally I don't work in Photo Shop only in Corel, that's why I have files but CPT. I'll export them to PSD and give links later (although it will be very big content). Btw. if this skin were to be published, I can adjust it to DCS/ED requirements (in such a case it would probably be necessary to remove the "wolf and hare" symbol and the pictures from the kneeboard, in the free version these things can be still).
