Yep, it's a bug. There's no way the HUD projector could produce this kind of image even if you wanted. No idea how to fix it though, I don't have VR. You might try to uninstall the module from the module manager and install it again so you don't have to sit through the integrity check of the entire game.

I'm not an expert by any means so I can only guess this is for selective jamming of some frequencies while leaving others alone. Say, you are operating against a SAM site and want to jam only the frequency of the radar at that site while not interfering with radars of friendly fighters (including your own probably). This is because different radars operate with different wavelength due to their intended function, capabilities, physical dimensions requirements etc. In theory it is possible to jam all the things but it's going to take so many different antennae and so much power it's not funny any more, so jammers tend to be specialised just like radars.

Scroll down the bottom of the changelog. 2nd item in "Known issues" states the situation. They're aware, we just have to wait. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.7.9.17830/

File structure for F14A and F14B user skins please
WarbossPetross replied to Boosterdog's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Just checked some liveries in user files and OMG you're absolutely right! Still absent on some skins though, but I guess it's on the author. I can now go through my skin library and sort'em out. Many thanks! -
Are Wags TSD videos confusing anyone but me?
WarbossPetross replied to Mad Dog 762's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Thisss. When I watched the A-10 tutorials all the coolie hats, China hats, SMS switches, DMS switches had my poor brain in stitches. However, once I booted up the training mission and actually tried manipulating them on a keyboard (not even a HOTAS) one at a time they immediately started to make sense. I still don't know them all by name but I know what switch does what, and that's all that counts, really. The training missions tend to be very good in pretty much all the modules, so let's wait until we can actually try the thing ourselves, and maybe the OP's problem will resolve on its own. -
File structure for F14A and F14B user skins please
WarbossPetross replied to Boosterdog's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Aside from the skin author stating exactly what model the skin is for, how do I tell what's what? All I know is that the A skins tend to be of hi-vis synthwave variety while the B skins tend to be boring gray low-vis. Part of why I fly the A model much more than B -
How to hide or remove the flare pistol?
WarbossPetross replied to TonyMM's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I wish we had that as a module option in the main options menu like the JF-17 refueling boom. It's still not hard to install on the ground should you need it, and I'm tired of removing it every single time because it's obstructing the instruments. -
And not just CA, it doesn't really matter whether the controller is in a ground unit or not. Say, if I'm flying a plane with an A-A load-out and a pod and I find a good ground target that I can't strike myself, then I would like to be able to guide someone onto it right now instead of landing, respawning in another aircraft and returning only to find the target long gone. Why not teach the bots to attack the laser dot if kittens and players in multiplayer have no problem doing it?

JF-17 has had the DTC (and the transonic vapour cone) from the start IIRC, and you can edit countermeasure programs from the in-game module options menu. The source code is already available to ED as per their agreements with 3d party developers. Make of it what you will.

Characters, you say? Add something special, you say? This is Mi-24P, one of the most ominous looking aircraft in history, an airborne APC with a 30mm blyat thrower so massive its recoil can and will throw you off course, and you want to crew it with kids barely out of diapers? Here are the real guys. The first guy is wearing the body armour they were supposed to wear in Afghanistan, but since it was too hot they were mostly equipped like the second guy.

Exactly this. I'm on open beta.

Hornet Air-to-Air Radar Like a Boss by 104th_Maverick
WarbossPetross replied to TheCoyoteHunter's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Adding to the considerations above, the Hornet's jammer unequivocally disables the radar whenever it's transmitting while, as far as I understand, IRL it has settings that govern the priority of radar/jammer operation in different situations. That kinda matters seeing how virtually all other aircraft in the game have no problem using all the things at once. Whether it's realistic or not is a separate conversation, but right now that's how it is. -

investigating Thrust to weight ratio: confused
WarbossPetross replied to bkthunder's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
That's how you get people who want to start a shooting war with Russia and Iran because of all the invasions by them in just about every mission and campaign in this game -
Mig-21 pilot not animated and floats above the ground
WarbossPetross replied to okopanja's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Probably a Chinese spy: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/floating-chinese-government-officials -
Look at the bright side, we would finally get to fly in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Balkans etc. since that seems to be the only way we can ever hope to get them.

What Does It Take for terrain development choices?
WarbossPetross replied to Mike Force Team's topic in DCS Core Wish List
1. Razbam actually promised to make MiG-19S, not sure when or if it's still coming though. 2. MiG-17 is coming as well from Red Star Simulations, not much news about it either. 3. Not sure if I get it right, but a UH-1H is a UH-1H... right? -
Well, aircraft weapons tend to be used by more than one type or even generation of aircraft. The fact that it was MiG-29A carrying these in no way prevents Su-25, Su-27 or pretty much any contemporary Russian aircraft with the necessary mounting and wiring from carrying them. And that makes the aircraft a better bargain, both for governments and us simmers (imagine buying an F-16 A/A version, A/G version and Wild Weasel version separately for $80 apiece). And gee, it's a topic for a full-fidelity MiG-29A, go figure

PLZ make combat arms great again!!!!
WarbossPetross replied to DTS_Maton's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Thisss. The Hog prompted the introduction of JTAC, the Hornet paved the way for the Supercarrier, the Apache may probably bring some ground unit AI improvements. I'm perfectly willing to shell out $80 for a full fidelity T-72, and that would indeed demand some attention to CA. -
AFAIK it is enabled optionally in JF-17.
-
No. TWS dual-target track and R-77 are available only with MiG-29S, though I don't know about J-11A.
-
Well, when I played the other F-16 simulator I immediately noticed lively radio chatter by pilots and ATC. That's not just giving you BRA to the nearest bogie, the ATC works with you all the way from take-off to landing, and it's possible only thanks to the dynamic campaign AI that actually understands what's going on. As ED works on the dynamic campaign mechanism it will really open doors for that and all the GCI control systems like the one recently implemented for our Mirage. Also guess what, Iran actually has HESA IrAn-140 that it uses as AWACS among other things, so until we have that (probably never) I guess we're within our rights to make do with the A-50.

What I find the most perplexing and unintuitive about DCS manuals is that the manual for module X is in folder X, the manual for module Y is in folder Y and there is no single point of access like it's done with, say, liveries. I had to make a single folder with shortcuts to all the manuals (and Chuck's guides as well) because I really don't feel like crawling through half the file system. Really doesn't look like a whole lot of effort for ED to implement. If I understand you correctly the closest thing to that would be the MiG-19 manual with typewriter font and authentic Russian cover
-
Well, when competing with a country that can literally outspend you you make do with what you have. Also see alcohol coolant for the radar. By the way, now you know why the Russians relied heavily on GCI (among other reasons) - because one big EW radar is cheaper and better protected than smol radars on all the fighters it can guide. If Russians developed IRST in, say, Vietnam age when fighter radars had similar range with much more weight and bulk, who knows, maybe they would have actually implemented the dogfighter concept that the Fighter Mafia in USA originally intended for their Red Bird fighter.
