CAS on my location script
Mistermann replied to Mistermann's topic in Scripting Tips, Tricks & Issues
Thanks! I'll give it a go. Appreciate the code snippet. -
This thread is/was a lifesaver!!! @Rosly, thank you. I just saved our MP evening because of this intel.

I would like to find a way to dynamically spawn in an AI aircraft and have it attack a specific point on the ground with cluster munitions. I don’t want to interact with the F10 map as this is meant to be 100% hands-free for VR optimization. I have VERY limited LUA experience, but am familiar with programming concepts back from the Jurassic period when I received my business degree. When writing LUA, I usually try and find code that I can plagiarize and morph into my needs. I am currently playing around with CIRIBOB’s CSAR script and adding to it. Here’s what I’d like to do from the cockpit of a helo. 1) From the F10 Radio option select an option to “Call in CAS” 2) Determine x,y,z position of helo 3) Drop red smoke on coordinates 4) Spawn an AI F4 in the general vicinity of the coordinates (maybe 20 miles away) 5) Instruct the AI plane to attack the coordinates using cluster munitions I think I can do #1-#3 on my own. I could probably also figure out #4 with some brute force trial and error. I don’t know how to accomplish #5 or if its even possible to do via scripting. Can anyone help nudge me in the right direction here? I don’t have anything coded yet because I’d like to understand how/if #5 operates. Thanks for the help!!

Not holding my breath. A rollback, if they were going to do it, would have happened in the hotfix. I doubt ED's going to do anything about it now. Damage is done and they're going to live with it ... uh, I mean force us to live with it. I'd like to think there were discussions with Polychop on what they wanted done, IDK. There's plenty of other things for me to do in DCS that take my mind off this situation. Sounds like you're in the same boat, CrimzN. We'll circle back to Silent Thunder soon. Thanks for the interest!

Progress Report: November 3, 2024 Not much progress to report. Before the latest patch dropped, @Devil 505 and I were hammering out the details of the final 2 missions. We've settled on an approach and I am looking forward to getting back into the ME and wrapping this campaign up. Unfortunately the latest DCS World patch messed my Kiowa bindings big time. Personally, I really hoped ED would undo their SNAFU and roll back the Kiowa code they promoted by mistake. Admittedly, I am not in the greatest head space right now with this module and candidly don't feel like re-binding everything now and then again when the real patch drops in 6-weeks. Considering I need the module to test the missions, this situation will delay the completion of the campaign.

Running a DCS campaign on a separate PC using DCS server....
Mistermann replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS 2.9
But it is possible. A campaign is just a group of missions stitched together in a special format. Yes, that special format (the campaign structure) only supports SP. However, if you're willing to forego the campaign progress wrapper, you can load missions onto a dedicated server and play with friends. There aren't many people creating MP campaigns out there. But, depending on what you fly there are some you could attempt. I know of MP campaigns for the following aircraft F/A-18C Hornet - Hormuz campaign from Jenson (PG Map + Supercarrier) AH-64D Apache - Griffins Campaign from Daggobert and remastered by Mistermann (PG Map) OH-58D Kiowa - Assassins Campaign by Mistermann (Syria Map) The ones I did have fully voiced experiences and offer a story progression. Jenson's Hormuz campaign is excellent. Its a real shame, IMO, that there aren't more people putting these MP story campaigns together. -
This is an outstanding MP campaign. My group has played through multiple times. If there was a DCS Hall of Fame, this would certainly be enshrined.

Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9
Mistermann replied to Taz1004's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I just hope Taz is okay and just taking a break from DCS and not something worse. Being away from the forum for 7 months, for a guy like Taz, is a long time. -

Mistermann replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
I see there's a v1.9.2 out there under the master that has this new code you referenced. Thanks!! Agree, OH-6A would work in v1.9.1 if named the pilot properly, but everything defaults to the same helo size. I like this new code that defines different helos with different seating capacities. Thanks Tobi! -

Mistermann replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Hey @tobi. I'm working with Devil on this CSAR stuff. I am using Ciribob's CSAR script (1.9.1). I don't see those lines in the script. Maybe I'm being thick in the head on this one. Is there a different CSAR script that you're referring to above? Thanks! -

Unless something has changed with the way campaigns are created, its not possible to do with MP content. The way ED designed this game was/is very much first and foremost a SP experience. The only way to create a "campaign" for MP is to play the different missions in a sequential order. Its a real shame, but for those few people creating MP campaign content like Silent Thunder its the only way possible. If the community knows how to enable proper campaigns for MP content, I'm all ears. Thanks! Hearing this kind of feedback justifies all the background work that goes into creating these experiences. For years I only flew SP. I have flown many of the paid campaigns and was content. Due to braindead AI wingmen, it was always a "me against the world" experience however. I was okay with it because my ventures into the MP world were fraught with juvenile experiences, or worse, Milsim wannabes who expected to be called "sir" and killed any joy received from this simulation. Thank God I found some like-minded flying partners who opened the DCS world for me. My enjoyment levels on DCS skyrocketed exponentially once I started flying with friends. If you're reading this in a MP themed thread, you probably already know. As a ME "tinkerer" I really wanted to create SP campaign quality content for this MP group. I set out to see if I could replicate that level of experience for the team. I put together a mission called "Jupiter's Javelin" for the F18 (its on the user files) to see if it was possible. That was a couple years ago and we still have fun with it. That opened the window of possibility for the group. We found 2 other MP campaigns (linked in the OP) and were thrilled. Played through both and figured we could do something similar. That's what led me to refactor the Apache Griffin's campaign and ultimately this Kiowa offering. I enjoy the story telling aspect of these creations. The voiceover work is somewhat tedious, but I really enjoy what they bring to these missions. Glad you're enjoying the content! Thanks for letting us know. Indeed. Real life has gotten in the way a bit the past month or so and I haven't made the time to wrap up the campaign. It's coming ... taking more time than I hoped. As for the future, @Devil 505 hinted at it above. We're actively discussing our next MP campaign project and we're going back to fixed wing. F/A-18C and Supercarrier. With 2 of these MP campaigns under our belt we have high expectations on what we can produce. But that's in the future. Thanks for flying Silent Thunder and sharing with your group, @CrimzN. We've got a cool story climax coming for this campaign.

Pimax Crystal Light. Sad day for plank owner Pimax user.
Mistermann replied to Devil 505's topic in Pimax
Gotta say, I am in the same camp as @Devil 505. Have been flying the 8KX for 2+ years and like him fly exclusively in VR. The FOV in the 8KX is amazing and if you haven't experienced it ... well, words cannot describe the sensation of "being there". I can see how those coming to the PCL from inferior FOV headsets (when compared to 8KX) wouldn't be bothered with the PCL's limited FOV experience. Downgrading the FOV to these new Pimax offerings feels like a major regression to this virtual pilot - even with higher clarity. Flying DCS in VR with horse blinders on sounds like an immersion killer to me. Add the plethora of negative experiences as it relates to Pimax quality control and messed up lenses and I just can't bring myself to acquire these new devices. And this is coming from a Pimax "fanboy". I reserved a "Super" the day it was announced. At this point, I am going to look for another vendor's replacement. Not completely writing off Pimax, but based on lots of negative feedback for the PCL, I won't be rushing out and acquiring the PCS like I thought. Maybe 8KX FOV is a pipedream given where the market seems to be headed, I don't know. Its a darn shame if that's the case. I was pretty disappointed to hear Devil's experience on FOV when he told me about it (we fly together). -

Progress Report: October 10, 2024 I've had a busy couple of weeks since releasing M06 and haven't spent much time in DCS World. I haven't forgotten about Silent Thunder, however. We are at the end of the story for the Assassins. The final mission installment has been designed and its looking like it needs to be broken into 2 separate missions. Without a save option, I just can't expect people to play for 2+ hours. With that in mind, I am breaking the final mission into two sections. It'll make sense once I release it. I hope to have some time this weekend to crack back open the ME and turn the storyboard into real testable content. With any luck my small group can test something out late next week or weekend.

Frank - in case you're struggling with eliminating the foot patrols towards the end, there's a F10 radio menu "cheat".

Anyone waiting on M06, it is still waiting on ED approval. Not sure the ave turnaround for these types of things. In the past, 2 days was the longest. We're now onto day 4. I'll update as soon as I see it approved.

Okay … for those following along, I just uploaded M06 – Darkness Falls to the ED files. As soon as it’s approved, I’ll post a link in the OP. The campaign story is wrapping up and will likely end with M07. My group has had a blast playing though these missions and I hope anyone who’s played has a similar experience. I’ll link a video of one of my buddies ( @Wulf103 ) and I flying this over the weekend. Warning – this is a massive story spoiler so anyone who wants to experience this firsthand, please avoid the video. A couple of thoughts having played through this a bunch of times. 1 – This is going to be tough for a single player. Not impossible, but the most difficult mission to solo so far. There is a cheat option towards the end of the mission that is accessed via the F10 radio menu for those who can’t destroy the local insurgents. 2 – I experimented with @WirtsLegsIR STROBE functionality in this mission and really like the results. You can see what I mean in the video below. Big shout out to Wirt and @jumphigh for their scripting prowess. Thanks! 3 – There’s a lot of AI units in this mission who’s behavior is critical to the story. I had to play around with a fair amount to get this all to work properly. After many tests, I think you’ll be good to go. IF, you experience mission breaking failures please let me know here or via DM. 4 – This can be a long mission, but you should have enough fuel. You’re definitely going to go BINGO fuel, but should have enough fuel to accomplish the mission and get back to UNIFORM. 5 – My guys completed the mission with 2 Hellfires and the .50 cal. We did not attempt with APKWS so your mileage may vary with those rockets. We took the hellfires because of their punch from a distance [almost 5 miles in this mission]. 6 – Like most of the missions in this campaign, this mission scales with more helo’s. I added a message to players letting them know when the mission is waiting for something to be destroyed. I hope the message isn’t too distracting (its been in previous missions too). The number of units to be destroyed varies with number of helo’s in the game. Besides Wulf103, I want to acknowledge @Devil 505 for his creative assistance and testing prowess during this campaign. Without these two fellas I can assure you this never would have seen the light of day. Thanks!

That is a carry-over from the original campaign. I had no idea those units were set that way. I may have blindly copied them and propagated the condition. Thanks for the sleuthing.
