solved Reinstalling DCS, but don't want "C" drive, want it all on "E"
VZ_342 replied to VZ_342's topic in Installation Problems
I'm not sure what happened or why, but this morning I did another install and this time it offered the location option. It took awhile, but now I have DCS OB again! Yay! Thanks -

Third page? The installer window doesn't show any method of choosing where to install DCS. -
F-5EM / CF-5 Fuel Probe Mod by denissoliveira
VZ_342 replied to Melt-Down's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Awesome! Does it pass IC? -
My Open Beta was corrupted somehow, and tried to repair DCS but never fixed it. I decided to uninstall it and the release version, but now when I try to download and install it, it only goes to "C". C drive doesn't have enough space on it, that's why it was originally on "E", but now that DCS is deleted, I can't get it back on "E". Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

For me, the "flying" is the best part of DCS. I like FF, but I also like FC3, because the ability to roll, turn, dive and otherwise "aviate" can be done with all of them.

When I was having difficulties with the F-5 bombing tutorials, I got a custom mission (made by someone else, I forget who at the moment) which put me near the target roll-in point. This way, I could bypass all the talk etc of the takeoff and the navigation to the roll-in.

I just got the SA map today, and wanted to try out the western edges of the map....I think it looks real good! With all the little inlets and such, it seems to me it resembles something like Norway's fjords. I could see many WW2 scenarios with Mosquitos or Lancasters (when it comes out), as well as "knock out the radar/missile facilities. Or navy bases! Lots of nooks and crannies to keep out of radar tracking, old-school navigation would be a b!tch, but who doesn't like b!tches? LOL!

I am able to download the F-5 checklist, but had to go the link mentioned on the page you posted. Thx

Training missions are usually just to learn basic systems operations. Flight, navigation, and weapons employment in actual (simulated) combat is well beyond the basic training missions. In this regard, the F-5 is a bit easier to handle (imho) while airborne than some of the other trainers. I like it more than other planes mainly because it has a roomy cockpit and incredible visibility, almost as good as the F-16.

solved Update to 2.8.4.39259.1 stalls then CTD
VZ_342 replied to VZ_342's topic in Installation Problems
Edit: DCS is updated now after restarting a few times after scanning/fixing drives as below: Did the sfc /scannow, it said "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them." Thank you! -
The F-111 radar was stabilized in both pitch and roll, unless there was a lock-on, in which case it was stabilized to the target. Yes, if you went up by 20 degrees, the antenna is (relative to the airframe) at negative 20 degrees....that's because it was an Attack Radar, not a Navigation Radar (which you would find on airliners). It needs to look ahead to the area to be attacked. The WSO (guy on the right side, weapons system officer) could tilt the antenna if appropriate, but then he'd have to manually tilt the antenna once they were flying level again.

Did as instructed, DCS locked up but was able to shut it down after about 5 mins. Windows was also sluggish, but was ok sooner than DCS. I do get a popup about "managing storage spaces", but don't appear to have anything bad (green is good, yes?) -
I've tried updating to the most recent Open Beta (not MT) but it downloads about 20% and then the computer locks up. After a few minutes, DCS crashes, and the computer runs very slow. Log attached... If I do not run DCS, or if I decline the update request, all is good. autoupdate_templog.txt

I still love the F-5, only issue I still seem to have is how it spontaneously sheds its wings, especially when pulling out of a dive. Kinda hard to believe it's so delicate like that, because we'd have heard about beaucoup crashes due to wing snappage. I'd love to have a fix for it, or even just a mod that fixes it, even if it wouldn't pass IC.

On the Century Series discord they were asking for the gpu and cpu combination if your 104 isn't working, or even if it is because that might help sort out the problem.

Very nice for being a "hack job"!

I often use SB during landings, I get bored easily with proper glide slope and airspeed. I tend to turn on final a little hot, drop RPMs to idle, gear out, SB out, watch airspeed drop until 220ish, then retract SB and increase throttle promptly to keep the airspeed at a proper rate. If I've really messed up I'll do a go-around, but most times it's a good landing.

In Options/Controls there should be an open column (not darkened) under HOTAS and Throttle, just find the Num2 view you want, select the box under the controller, double-click, then press the button you want to use on the controller.

A lot of cryptic double-speak, imho. They said essentially the same thing a year or two ago, and now they're going to "share" their plans (but not their actions?) "later in the year." We'll see. Hopefully we will.

On latest OB also, and very impressed with this mod! Very...sedate...handling, easy to fly. The control panels/instruments are a bit dark, makes them hard to read without zoom.
-
The F-5 is a lot of fun, there aren't any real "broke" features...if you're an absolute Ace/professional sim-aviator, you might find a shortcoming or two (key word: "might") but if you're casual or other, it'll be good. TL;DR....I recommend it.

"Yeet" means to throw something with force or careless abandon.

I weighed the smoke pods and the Aim-9, by adding them in the ME and checking the "Weapons" weight slot. Smoke pod adds 441 lbs each Aim 9's vary between 187 lbs and 190 lbs. That's 250 lbs difference. Edit 1: I also ran with 2x 500 lbs GP LD bombs on the two outer pylons amd dropped one at a time...immediate roll to the side dropped, and by dropping the other one the roll stabilized. This is normal, I'd figure. Do the smoke pods really weigh 441 lbs?? Edit 2: Neat trivia I didn't know, that I found out when using the smoke pods: You activate the smoke pods by selecting them, and then using the "Jettison" button....but, if you have Sidewinders on those rails, it will yeet them off straight ahead. With fire coming out their backside. No lock-on necessary. Of course, they're not aimed or anything, so it's anybody's guess where they will land...but hey, now you can fire them off "ballistically."

Yes sir, hard roll to the right. Knowing it was to happen, I was ready with counter stick, and recovered....but throughout the flight still had hard right roll. Swapped left/right load outs, got a hard left roll. Both sides smoke pods, no roll. Maybe the smoke pod weight is goofy?
