  1. Tornado attack with JP233 cans against an good sized airbase would typically use a 4 ship split into two elements - two fly along the runway (one may be offset to take a long taxiway that could double as a runway), whilst the other element would come in as mentioned typically 30* off axis of the runway to make 'cuts'. Using HD iron a 30* slice would almost guarantee a direct hit with at least one munition.
  2. Would probably need a short video or something to identify your "beep". Could it be a Morse identifier for a ground station? Any radios tuned? Type of Beep?
  3. Amen, brother.
  4. Its not a proper Phantom if you can see forward . Turk F-4E, or Hellenic? *edit: Hellenic, can just see the Bird Slicers.
  5. Quite a few missiles have a plug to keep the rocket bell clean and clear. This is expelled backwards, at great speed, upon ignition. See link https://nara.getarchive.net/media/a-rear-view-of-a-us-air-force-usaf-agm-88-high-speed-antiradiation-missile-4c2da9
  6. The M & K (FGR2 & FG1), in FM terms would be quite distinct from the other J, N, S & B, C, D. Due to the engine change, the RR Spey gave faster light up/spool up times at all altitudes, and although slower at altitude - typically M1.8 - 1.9, down low the acceleration was quite something. From a start of say 350kts below 200ft, the FGR2 could reach 750kts before an accompanying US F-4 would hit 650, and 'some' UK Phantoms have 'seen' over 800kts on the deck, for , well . . . reasons. The brute thrust available in the low level regime is quite the shock to some when first crossing swords. It gives options - things not going your way? Unload to 0g and extend rapidly, then curl back in. Or run and disappear. Want things to go your way? Make them uncomfortable then push the vertical - meat on the table. Min burner cleans up the slight (compared to most US versions!) trail left, so as to hinder a viz pick up. Weight wise, the M & K are . . . beefy gals. But, when you "Spey" ANY animal - the ar5e gets bigger! Although not as svelte as some of her foreign sisters, she could still move Rapido!
  7. Yep, like draconus states - just get it. You will not be disappointed in the slightest. Even at full price, for what you get, it’s cheap. *and by cheap, I don’t mean nasty.
  8. There will always be detractors, and in the same vein - enthusiastic proponents. Im in the latter camp. The perceived lack of AA kills in its infancy was due to improper use and equipment. It was a learning curve. Vietnam kind of ‘got in the way’ and accelerated its use in ways that couldn’t really capitalise on its strengths for a while. That did change, just not quick enough. The F-4 did mature, and became extremely good. A “jack of all trades”, if you will. The F-4 became the yardstick that all following fighters were measured by, and that shows how it was valued, for its timeframe it was ‘the best’. But, time moves on. The flame had to pass on, and it did. The F-14, F-15 took the mantle as they were better. But the old wrinkly master can still surprise the student. And has done on a few occasions, one of which I was party to. It all boils down to the “meat behind the stick”, if you pardon the parlance. You can have a new upstart armed to the teeth henchman, but an experienced guy with a stick can still whip him if the opportunity presents itself. So just because the F-4 is “over the hill”, and old news, doesn’t mean you can safely ignore its nose. You can’t, you really can’t. Any Phantom driver with ANY moxie will still pull your panties over your head whilst spanking your booty with 20mm if he (or she) fancies getting in close after you make a mistake, to really make it a personal thing. Yes the F-4 was as big as a barn, and slowed in the turn similarly, but power recovery when unloading was eye watering. Use of the vertical would give many modern fighters heart palpitations. True - the view was limited, but with 4 eyes it makes up for any canopy bow. The F-4 consistently made opponents re-evaluate their tactics, and sometimes their life choices too. I miss the old girl, she had a fat arse (FGR2), leaked a bit, and cut and bruised many who worked on her innards. But by god . . . . What a ride.
  9. Whaaaat???????????
  10. Could also be a propaganda edge to things - Terry Taliban could rally public opinion to their cause if a supposedly "US" crewed aircraft strafed a market or something
  11. These reports are the only thing that has put me off purchasing - I tried it via the free trial option a while ago, and this seems to be the only map that is not even close to fluid, for me. I can populate, sometimes heavily, other maps with no discernible drop, but Syria however - even with just a handful of units or ‘eyecandy”, at a great many times is just a slideshow.
  12. Because NTTR is what it is known as, why call it something else? You cannot call it “Nevada”, as Nevada itself is larger, this map centres around the USAF playground that is the NTTR.
  13. Long runways would be hit along the length, with another making a 30* cut across the field to take in straight lengths of taxiway that can double as an emergency runway. Typical attack would involve at least 4 aircraft for a substantial airbase, in two or more elements. JP cans are ejected after use, something like 10 seconds after expended? Live JP cans can only be flown maximum two times I seem to remember if they are not fired, before having to be reconditioned.
  14. Indeed. Raise a glass to the man, you don't need to show the guys last breath. Plus:- Victory, you more than any of us have the right to announce the passing of a great man - you both have time in the same bird - but to the wider world there are some that also have a connection, namely having served in a similar capacity, and those of us recognize 'great' and 'talented' when we hear it, even if those of us never even shared airspace with him. This thread i believe should stand as a small but poignant nod to a fellow hand, but should be closed - not deleted. He is a part of everything Navy, everything F-14, everything combat. Similar blood runs through similar veins. We raise a glass, thank the gods that we never came to grief when still in - or say a silent prayer if still serving, and tomorrows another day.
  15. Personally i wouldn't have put up the video, nobody likes to see a bro come to grief . . . plus all the armchair crash investigators are gonna come out.
  16. https://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php You will have to download some things . . . But have a mooch around on the site, there is plenty of info etc, to get you up and (gun)running. Areas within NTTR and details of things
  17. That’s not a vapour trail, that’s just dirt and dust kicked up by the exhaust as the pilot pitches up, similar to the Blue angels end of runway pitch up.
  18. JP233 . . . Bl**dy suicidal. Straight and level over tgt at around 170ft, not able to jink or anything for at most 20 seconds for max spread, suicide.
  19. Possible, but there may be a reason why it hasn’t been done before? Maybe clarity of the acrylic or similar, reaction with the model or paint, or how to pose it in a fluid before it sets without leaving supporting rod marks?
  20. Look at the axis assignments. I’m pretty sure you need to use the pitch and roll axes that start with F22, they may be highlighted in a colour? Dont use the normal pitch and roll.
  21. Avionics tech - beeps’n’tweeks. And that last bit is ph*#€ing slanderous . . .
  22. Oh it would have a few input points for sure . . . They would be on the rear of the unit however. Only beeps’n’tweeks should have access to that.
  23. I find that extremely hard to believe . . . . You only see the ‘cockpit’ when playing his game, you don’t see anything else. Could be a facsimile in a well lit garage . . . .
  24. This guy . . . . has me in tears EVERY TIME! Absolute legend. YouTube is too small a platform for him . . . .
  25. Understood chap. Don’t worry about the pictures - the last thing I would want is you to take an unscheduled sky dive! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08L1SWV68/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B08L1SWV68&pd_rd_w=8obue&pf_rd_p=78990ed5-4f09-4ecb-927d-e7fac2d3d628&pd_rd_wg=K0lBU&pf_rd_r=VT9VQAWC0TYGJVMMWCBH&pd_rd_r=7ed5057c-a953-45ff-a564-f77d00420faf&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQkwwTFRNNTcyNVE2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDY0NzI4M09VTTBSWUVTUVcxUiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjY4MzIzTTNHVDRRTTc2UTZMJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== ^^ These are bolts (expanding type) I’ve used before, good for many things, and I’ve reliably secured equipment weighing around 500lbs to the wall with several of these, along with chemical anchoring, see video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzb3hjLJl80
