As a crutch, people say to put the velocity vector on the crotch if the ship so that you are "leading" the deck. Mobius708

need track replay Very Imprecise air to ground radar
Hulkbust44 replied to Eagleflieger's topic in Bugs and Problems
Are you designating returns from MAP A/G radar, or getting a STT in SEA? Mobius708 -
Unable to recenter ATFLIR pod problem is back.
Hulkbust44 replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The SCS sensor control switch in the stick kinda looks like the top of a Rook, thus it has been dubbed the castle switch. When someone says to castle, that just means you should actuate the SCS in some way. Usually they tell you. Ex. With attack format as TDC priority, castle right to command AACQ/FACQ assuming attack format is on the right DDI. Mobius708 -
Unable to recenter ATFLIR pod problem is back.
Hulkbust44 replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The bug occurs when the FLIR is in a SCENE or auto/point track. So, castle (press sensor control switch) towards the FLIR display to cycle between INR, SCENE, and AUTO. When you are in INR (inertial reference) the FLIR reticle is stabilized to your aircraft rather than any point on the ground.(or in the air) This is denoted by a diamond reticle. Once you have castled to INR you should be allowed to use NWS to undesignate again. Mobius708 -
Unable to recenter ATFLIR pod problem is back.

Yep, best work around is to castle to INR and then undesignate. Mobius708 -
In TWS mode, what is the difference between EXP mode and SCAN RAID mode?
Hulkbust44 replied to JoeAce's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
TWS EXP is just expanding the image on the display to better differentiate between tracks, RAID focuses a narrow scan volume around the L+S to look for targets that are very close together. Mobius708 -
not correct for version F18 pilot says you can set 8.1 AOA with DDI page?
Hulkbust44 replied to truebrit's topic in Wish List
Not yet implimented. Literally just tried. Mobius708 -
Not really. It just shouldn't be as perfect as it is right now. If the subject hasn't changed course then yes the pod should be able to predict the path based on the target's last know data. Mobius708

Searching for proof of underperforming AN/APG-73 radar

Did you adjust the brick timeout from the default of 4? Mobius708 -
FLIR should slave automatically, and the maverick will also slave once priority is set to it. Mobius708

Takes the stepped to track (or target under cursor (TUC)) and centers the SA format around it at a scale of 5nm. Very helpful for breaking out groups and seeing exact locations when the map is enabled. You can TUC your A/G designation too so you can technically use that to look around the the map. A makeshift HSI slew while we wait. Plus, we should be able to designate L+S from the SA so that makes it even more useful. Edit: In the far future you could use the EXP on a ship D/L donor track to break out and designate a group of ships for your Harpoons... that'll be the day in DCS :)

This makes logical sense as the radar is silenced with WoW and is not scanning, however I found this cockpit video showing the B-sweep continues to sweep when on the ground. Around 4 min. Is the DCS implementation correct? Mobius708
-
Yes, on the SA format event mark toggles the SA EXP over the TUC. AZ/EL however, I'm not sure about, perhaps it toggles the AZ/EL EXP. Mobius708
-
Yes, you find the target with the FLIR and then hand-off to the maverick. Mobius708
-
The missile ran out of energy, and you caught up as your aircraft is under constant power. Did you have any in range cues? SHOOT on HUD or canopy rail? NIRD range marker past the 6 o'clock position counterclockwise? Within Rmax as listed on the stores format with a STT? Mobius708
-
Well, that's just tough luck lol. For the sparrows, what was your calculated Rmax, and at what range did you fire. Did you have the MH? If so, was it set to loft? Mobius708
-
I've got a solution that can even deal with the moving target issue. Once you have the FLIR in a point track, press TDC depress for the offset aim cursor and put that over the second target. (Assuming it's in the FOV) Uncage and fire the maverick as normal, then castle towards the FLIR and the point of the offset will become the new auto/point track point. Lauch the maverick. Now I haven't tried this on a convoy, but it should work. Mobius708

So for BFM in the Hornet your average corner speed is 360kts for a clean jet. Pull below that and you will be behind the power curve, gotta unload and get knots back. The Hornet is an excellent AoA 1C fighter, and one of the best 2C fighters. You just need to know when to transition. "Boom and zoom" dosen't work anymore in the age of modern BFM. The aircraft have the ability to regain energy incredibly quickly by comparison to the Warbirds. Having altitude is always an advantage, but you need to learn how to use it with your aircraft. The Hornet LOVES the descending spiral or scissors. Modern BFM is like a bayonet fight, there is no running as the enemy most likely has ammunition remaining in the chamber. In the air, those are the missiles. Unless you know the enemy only has the bayonet, you can't run. For what it's worth, I learned BFM initially in the Hornet, then perfected the basic technique in the 109. Coming back to the Hornet, my BFM was much better. Mobius708

correct as is Cold start coordinate format should be LATLN SEC
Hulkbust44 replied to Tholozor's topic in Bugs and Problems
Why is this an issue? We clearly don't have a specific OFP as ED has been taking things from many different ones despite claiming they don't want a "franken Hornet." Our Hornet is the second to last charlie model produced and would have the most modern implementation of the systems. By the -000 this change is for OFP 20X and up, so this should be correct. Quicker way to change air to ground weapon?
Hulkbust44 replied to darkman222's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
^exactly, and IRL you really don't want access to A/G munitions completely by HOTAS. (In the case of the Hawg you have multiple deliberate steps) any A/G engagement would be planned enough for you to have plenty of time to set up the jet. Even in CAS you have a check-in phase with the JTAC, game plan, and 9-line. While doing so you would be in auto pilot not touching the controls. During that setup phase you *don't* want to be required to put your hands on the stick. Mobius708 -
IFF slow to return. Am I setting it up wrong?
Hulkbust44 replied to Gogojuice's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Remember, you need two sources to "confirm hostile." Only way your aircraft can do it alone is with a NCTR print and negative mode 4. Otherwise, you need a negative mode 4 plus an identification from a donor such as another fighter that can get the NCTR print, or more commonly an AWACS. Mobius708 Oh, you have auto L+S interrogation enabled, do you have an L+S set? Mobius708 -
Make sure you have increased the brick timeout on the data sublevel. ED incorrectly modeled it to where the entire trackfile is deleted after the specified timeout. Only bricks should be affected. Mobius708
-
No? Outside of the ACM condition SCS down has no impact on the attack format. It will just set priority to the AMPCD. Mobius708
-
So there is no "SOI" in the Hornet. The sensor control switch (SCS) is very context sensitive and you can't really generalize it's functions. Top level, the SCS assigns TDC priority. Which display you are interacting with. So with the attack format as TDC priority,(set with SCS right assuming radar is on RDDI) SCS right activates AACQ (auto acquisition) which will attempt to STT the current L+S, or the highest priority track. That's all the direct control the SCS has on the attack format. BunnyClark on here made this fantastic HOTAS guide for the Hornet.http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/611e691729be8/18_HOTAS.pdf Mobius708 To add for OP, NWS will exit ACM condition. Mobius708
