Long story short: Bad vFOV and a tiny sweet spot.
-
Most underrated comment ever.

I'm looking forward to the new fog modeling. I hope that will fix the blur issues in VR since my guess is they don't rework the old stuff anymore since they're right at bringing the new weather stuff anyway. I mean, we at least do have Mustang's shader mod in the meantime, which is far better than nothing.
-
Must have been Mover's new helo VLOG The is one major difference though. DCS is a beta while Windows 10 is pre-alpha That's some basic AP mode that is engaged by the A/P and then ON/OFF switch, pretty similar to ATTH, but it also locks you to agiven heading withing 5° of bank. I guess they added the ability to control via the trim switch though, as that was not modelled IIRC. Slight stick inputs did work however.

What constitutes a "good" multiplayer server for you?
Eldur replied to Dangerzone's topic in Multiplayer
A good MP server would be one that doesn't drop my fps from almost rock stable 45 in VR down to far sub-20 in Pancake even after dumping all the graphics settings completely. Sadly, no such server does exist to this day. MP is inherently unplayable for me, which, TBBH, sucks. -
I've put mine (as a mod package via JSGME) into DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\[map name]\Kneeboard. Works on every map except for Syria. But TBH I never tried Normandy even though I bought that first day. It's a bummer this still hasn't been fixed - but I highly appreciate the absolute hard work that went into the map so far since release. I guess it's just a matter of time.

I'm on Oculus and the mask is completely gone since the last update.

Underrated comment. Speaking of which, where have all the reaction gone? Only like and thanks is left... Looking forward to that map the more I see it, I wonder what soon™ actually is this time. Oh, and I'd love to see the TBRIS next week, we do need something truly Russian to play on a long route

Pretty much this. And I also think it got a bit worse with 2.7 - but it started exactly at the update that brought the Channel map. The Mustang shader mod always helped a good bit since by reducing the haze a lot, but even with that one in the mix everything still is kinda mushy. Now with 2.7 the difference to pancake mode is exceptionally huge within the cloud shadows. I can crank my gamma to 2.8 in VR and I have an extremely hard time even seeing runways in there, especially though the HUD glass. No problem at all with just 1.6 on a screen. Lower values in VR just make it almost like pitch black in return. Now what I also noticed about it, it heavily depends on resolution - the lower, the worse it gets. I'm really getting headaches from flying in my CV1 with how it currently is, I bumped up PD from 1 to 1.5 already to counteract it a bit (that actually helped some), and using my Quest instead with medium graphics setting via VD makes it even better, but costs me about half of my fps over the CV1. Lowering that to low or even potato makes the blurryness MUCH worse and I'm basically flying blind even on a clear day then whereas in the CV1 it's "just" like looking through a cataract (I know because I literally went through that and the phacos to have it "fixed"). Nevertheless flying in VR still is fun for me, but I have to be bloody honest here now: I totally can't fight with that, period. By the way I noticed the same issue happening in pancake with lower res (like 1280x768), just much less pronounced.

Pretty sick, but all I want is play it on the ABRIS...
-
Just took the thing to a nice flight through some valleys in Lebanon and couldn't complain about any reflections. So it seems to be fixed indeed
-
2448x2448 per eye sure is sick, and it has a better FOV than most headsets, only with the Index and Pimax being better. Could potentially be the new top notch thing for flying. Except for one thing: fps left the chat. And with controllers (they still sell the stone age clubs with the thing, so get the Index knuckles instead) and base stations you're up to 1500 bucks with the thing unless you had something Lighthouse system before. At least I wouldn't get one without controllers. DCS cockpit things in VR with just the mouse is a major pain in the plot.

Since the newsletter mentions skip-bombing, when do we get that?

More accurate Apparat 27 - AJS37 RWR mod
Eldur replied to MYSE1234's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Especially that part with the SA-15 shows how off the original one seems to be as yours matches the frequency of the dish's rotation. You should maybe try getting into contact with Heatblur so this gets some quality improvement officially. -
I was rather hoping for a fix of that cloud settings thing, the general VR blurriness / "wash out" issue and the still kinda broken VR controllers (thanks for the laser beams, but I can only see the cursors if I use my virtual index finger as "iron sight", otherwise they won't show up and the pointing angle is still about 30° off towards the palm). That explains why I can't see it... I guess the movement isn't massive in how far the things jitter back and forth. Can't see mosquitoes (small things moving fast) unless I stare at them directly or stars in CAVOK night skies IRL either. And on top of that, when flying in VR, the low res of my CV1 and the general "wash out" of DCS in VR that's been around since the Channel map probably makes it even harder to see.

Heatblur Update - Supersize Me & Public Roadmap
Eldur replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Nick Grey would like to have a chat with you... (he basically "announced" it already in an interview, think it was the GR one) Expected that "next gen" thing to be something related to your workflow, tech and stuff. I wasn't wrong. Will they be fighters or "fighters"? (thinking things like 111 or 117 here) -
Heatblur Update - Supersize Me & Public Roadmap
Eldur replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
A-6E, F-111F and Tornado IDS confirmed. Sorry, no Half-Life 3 yet! -
The new Petrovich AI seems interesting and I like the idea of controlling it with just a 4 way switch with short and long presses. And I'm glad the BS3 module is not dead as some expected recently. But it looks like you guys had to drop the President-S system, which is a bummer. But it's better to get some upgrades without that than nothing. Maybe you should put your resources that would have went into that into contacting Mr. Алексей Леонидович Пажитнов in order to have a fully licenced version of TBRIS* within the module. When I can get that, I won't care about anything else. I mean, the SYST page literally cries for it. *TBRIS:

When I'd get that on crowded and heavily scripted MP servers that would at least double my rate. I don't expect too much from Vulcan alone though, but having the underlying engine finally supporting and using multiple cores properly might do wonders on my end since my GPU load lingers around just 20-30% usually with DCS as it is so heavily CPU bottlenecked and an old 3rd gen, even overclocked a lot, just isn't state of the art nowadays, and well past the massive IPC increase that came with the 6th gen.
-
First off, I'd highly recommend getting on the 2.7 Open Beta. The clouds don't tax the hardware that much actually and for many the new version actually runs smoother and I noticed that as well with a rather oldish system which is pretty much CPU bound in DCS though (as probably most are). As for the module, you do like and would like to get the Mirage already. That is one good reason already. The next one being you wanting to fly SP campaigns/content. Now here that exact module is very special as the campaign that comes with it basically is a continuation of the tutorial missions, all of which are very well made by Baltic Dragon. So you'd literally get an in-depth tutorial as the campaign after the basic tutorials, giving you plenty of time and oportunity to learn all the things. It is a full-fledged DCS module with all the switchology involved, but probably the easiest one to get into that because of those missions and campaign. And you'll get into the basics fairly quickly, especially when you really want to fly that plane. Also on the plus side is it's FBW system, so you get some good assistance in the flying itself and can't do wrong too much, and you'll even have a very cool synthetic runway with your ILS system on the HUD that makes it a lot easier to do the approach in bad weather or low vis conditions - you will learn to love that for sure. Also, though not being a master at anything, you can do AA and AG alike, it just doesn't bring fancy guided stuff for ground pounding and the AA inventory doesn't include Fox 3 (active radar homing) missiles. As for other modules: The F-5 is harder to fly and fight with, especially since you won't have a HUD, even though in general its systems are relatively simple as you don't have to go through MFD pages and such. And I'd dare to say many other modules that you could get for less than 40 bucks would either be even more simple in capabilities (like the MiG-19 for example) or more complex in operation, or more limited in what you could do with it (like the Viggen, which I'd suggest anyway or the Harrier, if you're more into AG). The FC package can be a nice choice, but it will dump you in that "I want more DCS" hole quickly as those are the low fi modules. Also, please check out some free mods that are available, especially the A-4E-C (undoubtedly the best one out there - it's practically mandatory to get it), but there might not be enough content available for you. Appears you use the night mode as well... ED has some work to do here still with the stylesheets. The text shouldn't have inline background-color. And there seems to be a software problem also that makes the font black-on-white instead of auto-on-auto when c&p'ing from software other than text editors that don't use any kind of rich text format. I highly doubt so many people do mess with font colors at all, I see this very often since the software update last year though.

It's funny how the thread preview of the Updater GUI shows a screenshot with an error message That tool basically does the cmd/ps work for you. I'm also quicker just punching in the commands, but many might not be comfortable with that. Just running the updater itself won't make DCS change the brand though. To get from Stable to Open Beta or back you'd have to append parameters to it or let the tool do all that for you.
-
Noticed the same since 2.7. Literally have to tilt my palm up by some ~25-30° to point at things now. Was perfect in 2.5.x.

When I tried VD with the Quest, I noticed the same, but I could more or less achieve the same by holding the right oculus button for a while, so just like recentering in the Quest dome where you start off when switching the HMD on.

I guess you should put that Norton malware in quarantine and then just remove it...

Found that one already and it kinda works. It keeps throttling itself so the ETA stays locked at 11 min for me. Feels like back in the stone age.
