I like to get nostalgic every now and then. The last time I asked what everyone's first flight simulator was. We sure got an interesting list.

This time I am asking what everyone's FAVORITE past flight simulator was.

I would also ask people to list what new technologies they were exposed to that gave the sim the "cool" factor. It does not matter if the sim pioneered the new tech, (if it did by all means share) only that it was your first exposure to it.

I will go first.

For me it was FSX. That was the first time I had been exposed to 3D Cockpits (I missed FS2004), GPS, missions in a nonmilitary capacity (very cool), and rewards for exploring.

X-Plane 10 was pretty cool to, and IL2, and................

I know many people criticize FSX (I thought it was pretty ground breaking myself) but, I hope they revive the MSFS brand.

The Flightsimulator series (FS3 - FSX) killed my whole youth and plenty of bucks for sceneries and other add on stuff.

Military favorite was Jane's Combat Simulations' USAF.

My very first propa flight sim was Falcon 3.0 then Gunship2000* Both on PC then European Air War onwards... Then without a doubt the Enemy Engaged AH and CH

First with easy flight on then I though.. hmmm whats realistic like... never went back to easy on any flight sim.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

My first was F-18 Korea. I think I only had the demo so I would mainly fly around Oahu. But I spent hours upon hours in that game. It's probably why I like the Hornet so much nowadays. So its probably nostalgia... that and I was 12 but it was my favorite.

Same here mate! I used to play F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 and then F/A-18 Hornet Korea - it was amazing sim! I was also like 13 y/o and also I think this is why I love hornet to this day - it was my first true flight sim. Can't wait for the DCS hornet to come out!

There are very few flight sims I haven't owned, or at least tried out.

My favourite would be the Third Wire series, as they simulate the cold war jets I love the most. Having said that the flight models border on being arcade and there are plenty of other things which aren't quite right as well.

Amazingly I found an ancient copy of LOMAC recently, one which I had installed on a previous machine and almost immediately given up on.

I can't remember why I gave up on it, but after a second try ( with better hardware - that might have been the issue, my PC's are always years out of date ) it's not bad at all.

FS has to have a special mention though, I think I've owned every version back from when the graphics were all jagged lines and triangles and it did help me when it came to learning to fly in the real world. It never holds my attention long enough to call it a favourite though, I like blowing stuff up and getting shot at too much :)

FIRE AT WILL

This was one of the very first flying games I ever got into.

Looking at the video's of it now I can't believe it looks so bad... at the time it seemed to look a lot better!

Really enjoyed my time flying on this game, great missions and scenarios with awesome little video clips to go along with the campaign!

I really liked F-15 Strike Eagle by MicroProse, back in the 80's on my ZX Spectrum. I think i liked it because i was young and it seemed 'modern' in that it featured Libyan aircraft as the enemy. The USA had recently attacked Libya and so it seemed relevant to the times. I also remember those damned SAMs. Deadly little things.

EF 2000 was my favourite 'proper' looking old sim though. Amazing to play.

When it comes to helicopters it was Comanche by Novalogic. Spent hundreds of hours on this one. Amazing graphics.

In the following order:

1) Micorprose Falcon 4.0 --- The systems fidelity, scope, overall immersion factor, graphics and my first "real" joystick (MSSW Precision Pro)

2) DID F-22 ADF --- awesome missions and gameplay, cool graphics... (I used to play this secretly at night when everybody was asleep)

3) Jane´s F/A-18 --- carrier landings in the flying computer blew me away, but the terrain looked very bland

"Jane's Longbow" was my first flight simulator, but I also liked F/A-18E Super Hornet.

But if I remember correct, the most time (before DCS) I spend with Jane's Fighter Anthology.

The one and only. I could only get a purple heart on this bad boy as a five year old. Had to park off the end of the runway and shoot friendlies in the flare in order to get a few kills.

For me the first addiction was Strike Commander and some Jane's stuff, later followed by MSFS. DCS brought me back to my roots, military sims.

I guess the first sim that I kept going back to was F19 Stealth Fighter on the Atari ST. I loved the randomly generated missions and the mission debriefings that tracked your entire flight path along with all the mission events.
