As it's a new engine [and a lot more new stuff] I'm gonna guess a new install

I'm still trying to think of a scenario that would make the updater unable to swap the respective files. Personally, i find it unlikely that it won't be possible to update, but i'm not a dev so don't take my opinion for gospel.

Right now I have only one install, that of open-beta.

When 2.0 is released, I am going to have two. One for the released version of 1.2.X which has been proven stable, and another 2.X.X open-beta.

The best of both worlds. Can't wait.

The opposite, actually (see first post). Unless you count the possible benefits inherent in DX11.

I assume DCS World 2 is going to completely replace 1.0. According to the poll here 96.8% of the respondents have DX11 hardware.

I know that from a configuration management standpoint, it would be a lot easier to create and maintain an base install than both base install and upgrade from 1.0. Besides, it makes sense to have DCSW2 be a separate install so that you can keep 1.0 compatibility for multiplayer with people who don't have the DX11 hardware.

Hasnt been announced yet.

Either way, it will still be up to the Consumer whether you want to download the installers and make a new install or update/delete an older 1.2. etc etc

is there a plan for those who don t have dx11 available ?

Like in the graphic option to enable or disable dx11

I suspect that would be a no.

Just like 32bit support, it would hinder the development of the sim.

I asked this question a while back and did not see an answer.

Will ground units be hindered by LOS behind trees, and will rockets and munitions fired from air to ground also be affected by trees, and will it affect target locks/tracking?

Will it affect AI seeing through trees for detection?

I am afraid of that, but that seems also normal IMO .

I must be the only one playing DCS with an 7 years old rig :D

I would hope with collision models for trees that this would effect LOS, but no info has been given yet on that.

At least with collision models, even if they see you, and fire a missile, maybe it would hit a tree and go boom lol.

LOS and sensor blocking by obstacles, not mentioning the trees colidable with missiles and projectiles would be a real gamechanger for the helos.

I hope... wait ... I pray for that

I have high expectations for EDGE-based maps, so I don't expect anything less. But then again, hope always dies last... :)

I think this is a moot point as I don't believe that any current card that IS approved for DCS now is not already DirectX 11 capable..

I am currently using a Radeon 4870 , it supports dx 10 but not 11.

Anyway I will have to buy a rig, I just had hoped that there would be some spec published about EDGE by now, at least what is not anymore supported, like dx10 or 9

Just because they've said that it supports DX11 does not mean it explicitly requires it to run properly right?

At least I can't see that stated in the thread start.

It's not that uncommon anyway for DX versions to be optional.

It clearly states dx11 render.... Page 1. We all have to upgrade with the times eventually

Of course Ive read that, but it is too general. No one had confirmed that the trees will collide with LOS, sensors or bullets...

What to say? We will see, I hope SOON :smilewink:

There is a difference between supporting dx11 and having it as minimum requirement

A small confirmation by sithspawn would be great if he is allowed to tell :music_whistling:
